" Hey, Liza, are you in here? " The young boy with the ruffled brown hair said as he adventured into the sad little room that looked identical to his. Technically, he wasn't supposed to be in here, but he needed to find the little girl he had abandoned out of fear a few nights ago, no matter how uncomfortable the lifeless gray walls that engulfed him made him feel. He immediately spotted the mess of curls and the hunched posture of his friend, although her back was to him and she didn't react when he closed the door, the latch shutting with a loud bang.

" Liza? You're not mad at me, are you? " When she didn't respond, he quietly climbed onto the hard mattress, sitting on his heels while his hands meshed together in his lap. " I'm sorry, really, I am. I just, I just got scared. I'm sorry. " For the third time, she didn't acknowledge his words, nor his presence.

She just- sat there.

The boy, confused and guilty, reached out to place one of his small hands on her shoulder, when suddenly her face wiped to the side to face him. " I'm sorry, can I help you? " She spat, her eyes bloodshot and angry. Taken aback, the boy lowered his fist, flinching away from the little girl. Assuming she was still resentful for their terrible outing, he let his eyes fall down to the floor in shame.

" Liza, please forgive me ? " He pleaded, his eyes still set to the concrete flooring.

" Who's Liza ? " Her voice trembled, but he still didn't dare to look at her.

" You ?" He said uncertainty. Oh god, what if he had gone into someone's else's room and now he had made this random girl cry?

" M- my name is Valentina. " She choked out a sob, her walls crumbling ever so slowly. Immediately, his eyes shot up and the face he was met with wasn't the once freckled and pink one of his friend.

This girl, if you could still call her that, had skin the color of moonstone, so pale it seemed almost green. Her eyes, in comparison, were bloodshot, the bags under them so dark and prominent it seemed like she hadn't slept in years. Her face was stained with tears, the corners of her eyes so red and dry it seemed like someone had rubbed sandpaper all over them. It looked like she had cried so much, it had murdered the rest of her body. Her cheeks were sunken in while her head looked too heavy for her frail and trembling body.

She looked scared.

She looked miserable.

She looked soulless.
