Chapter Thirty
Aidan's P.O.V.
It felt like hours had gone by since Serena was wheeled into the ER, and nobody had come out and told me how she was doing. I was hoping that she could make it through this and that the hospital had enough blood to save her life. Why did this have to happen to her? It should've been me. I should be in there right now clinging to life, not her. Anyone but her! I looked down at my phone, seeing that I just got a text from my Mom, asking me what the hell was going on, and as I responded to her, I could feel my hands begin to shake uncontrollably.
Mom
Mom: Aidan, I just saw something on the news about Serena getting into a car accident. Is she okay?
Aidan: I don't know. The doctors haven't come out and said anything yet. I hope so.
Mom: Me too. But knowing her and knowing how strong she is with getting through things, she can surely get through this.
Aidan: I don't know, Mom. She was bleeding everywhere, and the EMTs said she was losing a lot of blood.
Mom: Oh my. Your Dad and I are coming. Which hospital is it?
Aidan: Mount Sinai Medical.
Mom: We'll be there in twenty.
Almost a split second after I finished the conversation with my Mom, two police officers walking into the waiting room. "Is there a Mr. Aidan Gallagher in here?" One of them called out. "Yes, that's me," I said, getting up from my chair so they could see me. They walked towards my seat, sitting in two chairs right across from me. They said they were helping investigate the car crash and began asking me a lot of questions.
"So, you weren't involved in the accident at all. How did you find out about the collision?" The other officer asked in a low tone. I tried to open my mouth, but the words could not come out. I was still stunned by what I saw, and I started getting flashbacks when I saw the aftermath. My heart began to beat rapidly again as I recalled running the few blocks.
A small sob escaped my lips, and I pulled out my phone and showed them the video, covering my ears as the car crashed into the pillar. "So, you found out from a video?" They questioned. "Yes, I was heading back to our hotel wanting to see her after she came back from her tour, and that's when I found everything out," I explained, letting out a small sigh, looking down at my feet. "Can you think of anybody who might've wanted to hurt Serena?"
"Cameron Brodeur and Eden Cupid," I went on to explain the whole situation prior to this, when they tried to break us up, when Cam tried to assault Serena. As well as suspecting them of sending the letters and packages. "Have you talked to anyone about these events?" One of the officers questioned. "Yes, a detective who's working on the stalking case. I can give you his number if you want proof," I nodded, digging into my wallet to pull out Detective Mike's number.
They took the card from me, saying that they would check with him, and it sounded like they almost didn't believe me. They wrapped up the questioning, telling me that they would call and follow up on the investigation, they left soon after. My parents rushed in just as the police walked out and hugged me like there was no tomorrow. "Are you okay?" Dad asked. "I-I'm scared, Dad. I'm so so scared," I admitted. Mom hugged me tighter, assuring me that everything would be alright.
I tried to stay positive, but how could I when I heard the voices of the EMTs in my head? We need to get this girl to Mount Sinai, stat! She's losing too much blood! We're requesting a trauma team. We have a female, aged 17, with severe head trauma and possible internal bleeding. The doors leading to the Emergency Room opened, making the three of us pull apart and look over to see a nurse in dark blue clothing staring at us. "Are you the family of Ms. Waterbury?" She inquired.
"Yes, I'm her boyfriend. Is she okay? Is she alive?" I asked, becoming more desperate by the second for answers. "Calm down, sir. I know you're anxious. Let's take a seat," She gestured to the far corner of the waiting room, where we sat down and prayed before looking at the nurse, wanting to hear the news. "There is good news and bad news about her condition. The good news is, she's still alive. We managed to stop the bleeding. However, the bad news is she's in a coma. And the severity of her injuries is unlike anything I have ever seen,"
I felt some of the heavy weight come off my shoulders, but the moment she talked about Serena's injuries, all that weight came crashing on top of me again. She had a broken leg, a broken arm, a few fractured ribs, bruising all over her body, severe internal bleeding, and a major concussion. "The chances of her waking up are very slim to none," The nurse said softly, though the tone of her voice didn't soothe the ache in my heart.
"What's the percentage that she'll wake up?" Dad questioned. "About 5%," the nurse answered. 5% that she'll survive and recover, and 95% chance she'll die. Could this get any worse? "C-can I see her, please?" I stuttered, hoping that I could. Even if it was just for a few seconds, I needed to hold her hand and tell her how much I loved her.
"Yes. Serena's in room 542. Third door to your left," She responded. I stood up and dashed through the doors, speed walking to Serena's room. From outside the door, I could the faint sounds of machines beeping. Come on, Aidan. You have to stay strong. Maybe she'll be able to hear you. Without another thought, I walked in. My breath hitched in my throat as I saw my beautiful girl lying in the hospital bed, her injured arm and leg in a cast. An oxygen mask covered Serena's mouth, helping her breathe as she was fighting for her life.
"Baby, I'm so sorry I wasn't there. I should've tried to convince Steve a little more to let me go on tour with you. Maybe then, you wouldn't be here right now. Please wake up. I don't want to be alone anymore. You're my light, my angel, my partner in crime, and I won't move on without you," I said, feeling the tears escape my eyes as I stared at her closed, bruised eyes. "Remember when we wanted to build that treehouse? I want to do that with you. I want to marry you. I want to have kids with you, maybe even a little girl who's as talented as her mother. Just please, wake up,"
I reached over to the bed, grabbing her hand, and lightly squeezed it, hoping she would squeeze it back, but she didn't. I scooted closer to her, resting my head against hers, trying to fight back more tears. "I love you," I whispered.
"Please, don't leave me all alone,"
