I recently got into the grishaverse, and am pretty much obsessed with it. I also watched Shadow and Bone on Netflix as soon as it released. This chapter is gonna talk about my opinions, what I loved, and hated (very little hates tbh it was amazing). Now just note, these are MY opinions, and are not made to please anybody. I just want to let you guys know them. Also yea this is 2 months too late so I'm sorry about that!

(There will be a ton of spoilers since I'm gonna be talking about the show and scenes in the show. If you haven't watched it but hate spoilers, wait to read this another time. If you have watched it, or don't plan to or just don't mind spoilers, keep reading)

𝗜 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗪𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗧𝗢 start off by saying that this show is phenomenal! Of course, there are quite a few not in the books moments, but I didn't care. It was so wonderful and enchanting! Okay so, we start off with Alina.

Making her half-Shu was such a wonderful idea because it was a true stand out. In the books, Alina was seen as different because she was an orphan and the sun summoner. But making her half-Shu really made people find her different. Something she couldn't change. And it was amazing.

Side note, they made Alexei pretty much exactly like the books- oh and Mikhael + Dubrov. Anywayssss, we come and see Mal fighting and winning! Oh and we see his hatred of grisha but let's be real, that squaller was a genuine prick. Okay well yea so yk how it goes, Mal and Alina meet each other (yesssss) and then Mal is forced to go into the fold even though that wasn't what the original plan was.

Oh and we meet Zoya. Queen tbh. She was just perfect! Anyways cute Malina moments later we go to, let's be real, the part everyone was most excited for :

KETTERDAM (AKA HOME OF THE CROWS)

Ugh how perfect are they?! The crow babies are literal devils! It's perfecttttt! Anyways start Of with Jesper.
Let me tell you, this man, will make the best Rafal for SGE. I don't care that he looks nothing like in the books, Kit Young will make a fabulous Rafal, fight me.

Anyways, his role as Jesper. He is the literal embodiment of Jesper. The whole aspect of the gambling and unconsciously conscious narcissistic behaviour. Oh the jokes too. Hell I don't think anyone would have ever thought Jesper needed a therapist but rn, I would love to have seen some Milo mentions in the books lol.

And jesper's whole sharpshooter thing is so amazing! Like omg the animation of the gun in that one scene was so clean!! Oh and his lines were all so Jesper like-

"See it enough in the mirror do you?"
"Milo! The goat's name is Milo!"
"I miss Milo"
"Ugh, handsome decoy is also not a Jesper talent!"
"I vaguely remember you being airborne.....was that recently?"
"What stabl- oh him"
"No one is ever gonna believe I'm that old!"
"General...is that the same general who...oh yea tried to kill us all? Hmm? That one?"
"I'm sure the boss has a plan...he would send us into a death trap *panic* tell me you have a plan....I don't care if it's a lie"

You see what I mean?! Best flipping lines! Anyways let's get to the bastard of the barrels,

Kazzle Dazzle

Kaz Brekker

Freddy Carter was just ✨ f a b u l o u s✨ as Kaz. Just fabulous.
He had the same vibe as from six of crows, distant, subtle love for inej (in his eyes ofc-), and not as open. My only 'dislike' of Kaz was that he shook hands with like two people. Which traditionally, doesn't make sense since he hates physically contact. But other than that, it was beautiful!! Imma just slip in some of Kaz's lines (I'm only doing it for my crow babies- they're too perfect for their lines not to get any recognition)

"No loud noises at the table Jesper"
"Never make decisions out of fear Jesper....only out of spite"
"Or just in time"
(With Inej) "shut up jesper."
"....jEs?"
"Trust me...Arken and I think alike"
"I have a plan."
"No mourners...."

Not me just realising most of his lines were directed at Jesper-

Anwaysssss now we move on to my queen, my saint, basically the fictional character I live and will die for :
Inej Ghafa!!

Honestly, our little bunny rabbit hare (you'll get it if you've seen that interview), Amita has become one of favourite actresses, just because of this role! Like yesssssssss! Her interactions with Kaz! Her love of saints! Her acrobatics! And how can we forget

Her friendship with Jesper!!!

Honestly, I'm all in for the Nina and Inej friendship. But someone get me a friendship like Inej and Jes. Because I love it so so so so so so so so much!

Honestly just love Inej so much. And like Freddy telling Amita she should reread the books and picture herself as Inej is just so ✨y e s✨.

Now Inej lines Supermacy

"I just might be impressed"
"I'll take my knife back."
"No it's not! *tiny shove at jes*
"Saints!"
(With Kaz) "Shut up Jesper"
"Would you like to see how it works?"
"You can see a bullet tear through a man, but a needle is too much?"
"Who's Milo?"
"I said you're not paying attention!"
"No, I think you're flirting with that stable hand"
"...no funerals"

Ok ok, I'll stop now. But anyways, now we move on to the Waffle Queen herself, Nina Zenik. Now I'm just talk and out Nina and Mathias in the same little thing because I feel like I'm making this super long lol.

So yea, Danielle and Calahan are the literal embodiments (I've used that word a bit haven't I?) of Nina and Mathias. Honestly all of the cast was.

Say what you want about how they didn't physically look like them, I feel that if how they look doesn't portray a big part of the story, it's fine! Like the Peter Johnson (if yk, yk) movies, Annabeth being blonde was a must because being blonde was physically describe so much as a stereotype for Athenians. But here, it isn't really that big of a deal- in my opinion. Like I saw someone get annoyed that Jesper wasn't 'dark skinned'. Excuse me, but there is different tones to dark skin. And like, doesn't change much that his skin tone is slightly lighter than what the books said. The personality that Kit brought made it Jesper, with or without the skin tone.

Any-hoo, I feel like I've gone on too much about the crows, and I don't think I can make this chapter wait any longer. So imma just speed run this.

Ben Barnes as the Darkling-

That man made the Darkling come to life. It was amazing. And I'll admit, there was a slight moment where I felt sorry for him. Like his extra view into a Darkling backstory in his perspective was an amazing touch! (Man count how many times I repeat the same words over and over again-)

Baghra was even more of a queen- like yes. Just yes.

AND GENYA AND DAVID- I literally can't, my heart like stopped for them.
After Rule of Wolves, I have new respect for this ship (if you know you know, but please don't spoil it in the comments cause some people might not have read it yet)
David was just pure-ness as a person. And Genya was sooooo muchhhh like Genya! Like yessssssss!

The fact that I'm literally publishing this after they announced season 2 shows how overdue this chapter is, but since it is this overdue,

NIKOLAI AND WYLAN ARE GOING TO BE REAL PEOPLEEEEEEEE!

like wylan is literally my baby and I can't wait- like once they cast wylan, it's official. Like six of crows, have literally become the six dregs and I'm just gonna fall in love tbh-

Okay quick overview,
i. I love the crows
ii. This show did the books justice.
iii. If you have only seen the show but haven't read the books, DO NOT ask for a Kaz and Inej kiss. I won't tell you why, read the books and you'll know.
iv. I cant wait for S2
