-Restraint-
(season two, episode seven)
♞
"Can I just say..." Joey's hair is a bit messier than it had been the previous hours, and her beanie was now in her hand. "I've never actually been on this end of a restraining order- or any end."
Stiles looks at his dad from the metal chair in the interrogation room. "Any chance we can just talk to him about this?"
Sheriff Stilinski holds up his clipboard of paperwork and begins to recite. "You will not go within fifty feet of Jackson Whittemore. You will not speak to him. You will not approach him. You will not assault or harass him physically or psychologically."
"What about school?" Stiles asks, looking around at the other adults in the room.
"You can attend classes while maintaining a fifty-foot distance."
"Okay, what if we both have to use the same bathroom at the same time and there's only two stalls available and there right next to each other?" He continues hypothetically.
The sheriff just stares at him with arms crossed. "I'll just hold it." He says with defeat.
Joey raises her hand. "What do I do? I mean, my parents are out of town and they're kind of the only family I have so... Who's gonna be my ride?"
Sheriff Stilinski motions for an officer to let someone into the room.
"How are you, Joey?" The woman says, kneeling to hug the girl. Platinum hair falls on Joey's shoulders.
Abby.
But this time she was slightly older looking, smile lines and all. Weird.
"I've got her, sheriff." Abby says, pulling the girl up from her seat and walking with her into the hall.
Once the door is closed behind them, Joey examines the woman.
"Did you age last time I saw you?"
Abby crosses her arms and smiles warmly. "Perhaps. It's a party trick of mine. High Schooler one day, Businesswoman the next."
"Makeup?" She asks.
"Not exactly." Abby says, waiting for Stiles and Scott to come out.
Not very shortly after, they pile out of the room.
"Hello, boys."
Stiles and Scott exchange a look before one speaks up. "Are you her aunt?"
Stiles scoffs. "She was just in our chemistry class, dipshit."
The werewolf raises his brows. "Makeup?"
Abby chuckles. "I'd love to explain this to you boys, but I have to take Joey home."
"Witch?" Stiles blurts before she can walk away.
Abby turns and meet his eyes.
She winks and then walks away with Joey.
The doors of the station welcome in a cool breeze as Joey and Abby walk outside to Abby's car.
Abby glances from the car back to Joey.
"I know this must all be very overwhelming for you." she frowns at a thought crossing her mind. "Highschool isn't mean to be easy but they don't warn you about the supernatural."
Joey smiles softly at the blonde. She was right. No one exactly offered a crash course on this stuff. When the year started she expected to just get by but not to develop powers... Not to experience a whole new world that was foreign to her.
The look on Abby's face was obvious. She wanted to reach out and hug the girl. To her she was a close friend but alas Joey still didn't know anything about her origins.
"You shouldn't have to save the town. You're just a kid."
With that, Abby opens the passenger car door and motions Joey inside.

Joey stands with Scott and Stiles behind a bookshelf in the library. Stiles had told her dress casually but here we were as Joey fidgets awkwardly looking down to her bright red converse that make her stand out anywhere.
"it's everything Lydia can translate." Allison says sliding the tablet through to them on the other side of the bookshelf. "And trust me she was very confused."
Joey catches Allison's eye's as she does this, offering a polite look because she wasn't sure how to be discreet with their friendship.
Allison smiles back more comfortably.
Scott meets her eyes after Joey looks away. "what'd you tell her?"
The brunette winces. "That we were part of an online gaming community that battles mythical creatures." She giggles.
Stiles looks at her baffled.
"I am apart of an online gaming community that battles mythical creatures." He reveals.
Joey rubs his arm. "That's great, man."
He side eyes Allison.
"Okay, does it say how to find out who's controlling him?" Scott asks, reading deeper.
"Not really, but Stiles was right about the murderers." she says.
Stiles pulls his closed fist down in excitement. "Yes!"
She continues. "It calls the Kanima a weapon of vengeance. There's a story in there about this south american priest who uses the Kanima to execute murderers in his village."
The blonde nods along, picking at her nails that had begun hurting just a tad during conversation.
"Alright, see? So maybe it's not all that bad." Stiles says.
Allison pulls a book down, pretending to read. "Yeah, until the bond grew strong enough and it killed whoever he wanted it to."
"That's very bad." Joey quips.
"Here's the thing though the Kanima is supposed to be a werewolf but-"
Scott reads, finishing for her. "It cannot fully transform until it revolves that in its past which manifested it."
"His parents."
everyone looks at Joey.
"His biological ones. Does anyone know what actually happened to them?"
"I'll talk to him." Allison says.
•.•
Stiles and Joey walk down the halls, talking about Stiles' gaming community which he desperately wants Joey to join.
The pair gets cut off by Erica shoving Stiles into the wall.
Before she can think, Joey pulls Erica by the jacket and shoves her into the wall herself. A slight burn emitting from her palm, but she ignores it.
"Don't touch him." She practically growls.
Stiles stand there in shock. Unmoving, not sure what to do.
Erica runs her claws down the side of Joey's arm. "How about I ask you then. What's so important about Jackson's parents?"
Joey takes a quick breath before she grabs Erica's wrists and twists it off harshly.
the blonde grabs Stiles with the same anger and starts to drag him away before Erica speaks.
"If you're wondering where they are. They're about a mile from here in Beacon Hills Cemetery." She smirks.
The three of them walk down the halls together as Erica taunts them and once they reach the locker rooms Stiles pauses.
"You can't tell Derek about this. Just cause you got the alpha bite makeover doesn't mean you can go ruining everyone else's lives."
Erica turns around swiftly. "Why not?" She sighs. "You know I used to have the biggest crush on you-"
Joey's eyes darken as she looks up at Erica.
"And you never once noticed me. Just like you're not noticing me now."
Stiles pulls Joey's sleeve and guides her eyes down to the puddle of water coming from under the locker room door.
before Joey can react, Scott come bursting out from the now broken door to the floor, Jackson on top of him.
Erica goes for Jackson, pulling him off.
Scott pushing away towards Stiles and Joey as people pile into the hall to see the commotion.
"What is this?!" Mr. harris shouts down the hall.
Once he takes in the scene at play he blinks rapidly and gets louder. "All of you detention."
Joey sighs, making it very clear to Mr. Harris she does not agree with the conclusion.
"Did you have something to say, Miss, Russo?"
"You guys always say step and defend someone but then the minute we pulled them off eachother you give us all detention..."
He scoffs. "Don't disrespect me."
"Whatever."
Stiles goes to grab her but she's already leaving the scene.
Something was definitely wrong.
•.•
"I can't be in detention with them. I have a restraining order against these tools."
That's what Joey hears as she walks in a little behind the group. Jackson is an asshole as always.
"Both those tools?"
He nods. "Plus Joey."
She smiles at him sarcastically as she goes to sit at the only empty table.
"Alright, go with her to that table." Mr. Harris says.
For sure not legal but it would have to do.
Scott sits next to Joey first, Stiles sitting after.
"I'm gonna kill him." Scott says.
"No, you're gonna find out who's controlling him, then save him." Stiles responds.
"No, we should kill him." Joey continues.
An hour passes and Stiles is the first to speak up.
"What if it's Matt?"
Scott shakes his head. "No, he was the one who found the two hours of missing footage."
Joey widens her eyes. "Oh my god, classic serial killer move. Insert yourself into the case to prove yourself innocent."
Scott looks back at Matt and back at the odd pair. "So he makes Jackson kill Isaac's dad, one of Argent's hunters, and the mechanic working on your jeep?"
"Yes!" Stiles responds enthusiastically.
"Why?"
"Because... He's evil." His voice unsure.
"You just don't like him."
He rolls his eyes. "The guy bugs me. I don't know what it is. Look at his face."
Joey leans back in her chair, suddenly not so into the idea. "Maybe he has an evil twin?"
Scott sighs deeply. "Any other theories?"
A grunt comes form the other side of the library, Jackson grabbing his bag and standing up with a groan.
"I need some water."
"Are you okay?" Mr. Harris asks.
Jackson opens the doors and walks out.
Mr. Harris "Nobody leaves this room or their seats." Then, he leaves to.
Scott stands up, grabbing Stiles and Joey and Sitting with Erica.
"You know how Jackson's parents died. Talk." He says.
"It was a car accident." She puts her notebook down. "My dad was the insurance investigator and every time we see Jackson drive around in his porsche my dad brings up the settlement he'll get when he turns eighteen."
Stiles scoffs. "So not only is Jackson rich now, but he's getting richer at eighteen?"
She smiles. "Yep."
"You know what, I could try to find the record, it's probably in my dad's inbox, he keeps everything." She says nicely.
"Scott McCall please report to the principal's office." The intercom voice says.
Scott get's up, silently leaving the room.
Then, Jackson stumbles in with sweat covering his face. Mr. Harris behind him.
Soon everyone begins to stand to leave.
"I'm sorry, i'm leaving. You all can leave after you're done with the restocking." He pats the shelves of books. "Have a good rest of your evening."
•.•
Stiles puts a book on the shelf. "So according to the record, Jackson was literally pulled out of his mom's dead body by c-section."
Joey winces. "There's no way he knows that though, he just knows she died when he was born, right?"
"Was it an accident or not?" Allison asks at the same time.
"The word all over the report is inconclusive. If they were murdered it lines up with the Kanima myth. Seeks out and kills murderers." Stiles continues, leaning on the rolling shelf.
"But for Jackson? Or the person controlling him?" Joey asks, weary.
"we have to talk to him. We have to tell him." Scott rambles, walking off.
Joey takes a deep breath to calm her nerves. Jackson wouldn't listen he never-
A crash of an overhead light interrupts her thoughts.
Stiles grabs her, a jolt of electricity going through her body causing her to shiver.
The lights flicker and burst and tables flip because of an unknown entity.
It's jackson.
Scott in the distance tries to fight him but Jackson flings him to the floor.
The rolling shelf tips over with scott going overtop and instead of continuing to fight, Scott piles next to the group.
In a possesed half-human half-kanim state, Jackson write on the chalkboard.
"STAY OUT OF MY WAY OR I'LL KILL ALL OF YOU."
Then, glass shatters as he jump out the window and runs away in a daze.
Joey tunes into a noise in a different aisle, the sound of grunting. She raises to her feet and walks to the noise. Expecting to be killed.
Instead on the floor is Erica, seizing.
Joey hurls herself next to her and grabs Erica keeping her in her arms. "Hey! She's having a seizure! Help me!"
•.•
Stiles, Joey, And Scott carry Erica into the train station where Derek has been hiding out, laying Erica on the floor.
Joey gets behind her, Erica's head in her lap.
"Is she dying?" Stiles asks.
Derek shakes his head rapidly, grabbing Erica's arm and twisting. "I don't know, which is why this is gonna hurt."
A snap fills the train car. "Oh my god, did you just break her arm?" Stiles asks.
"I have to trigger the healing process. I still have to get the venom out though." His words hang in the air as he emerges his claws and digs into her arm, letting the blood seep out.
Erica goes quiet, her pain now diminishing from the once loud screams.
Joey grips her wrist and holds her. She may not like the girl but she wasn't gonna just let her suffer.
"Joey.." She whispered.
"It's okay. It'll be over soon."
