-Co-Captain-
(season one, episode ten)
♞
A school night is one of those things Joey usually dreads. Not because she has to get up early but because of the people. She's never really liked people. Her mom always said...
'It's in your nature.'
And of course at six years old, you don't really understand what that means. Joey would cry whenever someone would hold her, or hug her. It seemed to be a reoccurring theme. But now she was sixteen. And every time someone would hug her, it would ring bells in her head. Like it was wrong to not want one. She was raised that way.
Now, she craved one more than ever.
So when Stiles found her on the ground, close to being unconscious, and just held her. It felt like a dream come true. Peter, Derek's uncle, alpha, or any other title you could think of, dragged Derek away from her. They left and went out to what she was assuming was the woods. With Derek being a fugitive it seemed like the safest route.
Despite several pleas Derek let out, Peter ignored them and took him away from the girl who was bleeding from her head. It was a small cut, she fell on some glass that was left behind from who knows what.
Stiles clung tightly to the girl until she gained full consciousness. he whispered praise in her ear, because who wouldn't? She tried to stop Peter but everyone in the hospital that night knew it wouldn't work. It was just step one of Derek's control plan.
You might be asking, why go into so much detail of this one tiny situation? Because... It's Joeys turning point.
Joey wanted to fight Peter. To help Derek. She just didn't have the strength. But now, her being supernatural, it's time to put some real effort in. Do some research on what she is. Put herself first this time. She deserved it. And Stiles made sure she knew she deserved it.

"Can you drive faster?" Joey shouted at Stiles.
The girl could see him roll his eyes in the side mirror. "I'm trying my best here, okay?"
It took a solid five minutes to get there. And by then Joey had already been annoyed at Jackson before they even got to talk to him.
Stiles pulled the Jeep up to the blonde and watched as Allison's father inspected his car. The Porsche didn't look old, in fact it looked brand new. Nothing should be wrong with it.
"Is everything okay?" Scott called out from the passenger seat.
The wolf met eyes with Allison's father. There was an obvious tension between them.
"Hey, Scott. Your friend here was having car trouble. We're just taking a look." Mr. Argent replied.
"There's a shop right down the street, Mr. Argent. I'm sure Jackson can get there himself- They have tow trucks." Joey glared.
Stiles, being the sarcastic one, rolled his eyes. "C'mon Jackson, you're way to pretty to be out here all by yourself."
They knew Jackson was stubborn, but eventually he walked towards the Jeep with a glint of fear in his eyes. It was only a few seconds before Mr. Argent turned the car on once again and bragged because he knew things about cars. Then, he drove off.
"What? Are you following me now?" The blonde said, filled with anger.
Joey grabbed the boy by the shoulder after stepping out of the Jeep. "Yeah, 'cause you're an idiot."
"You almost gave everything away." Scott's voice was low and angry.
"What?"
"He thinks you're the second beta." His voice was loud enough for people in the near vicinity to hear.
"What?"
Joey squinted at Jackson. "He thinks you're Scott!" She was fed up.
It was quick a movement of Scott's elbow hitting the Jeep that caused a new dent. "Dude, my Jeep."
He ignored Stiles. "I could hear your heart beating from a mile a way- literally! Now he thinks that there's something wrong, and now I have to keep an eye on you so he doesn't kill you!"
Every time he spoke his voice grew louder. It was definitely loud enough to be heard from even further away. And now Stiles Jeep also had another new dent in it.
"Stay away from my Jeep!" Stiles mumbled with frustration.
"You know what? This is your problem, not mine, okay? I didn't say anything, which means you're the one that's gonna get me killed... Okay?" Jackson ignored Stiles and threw the next verbal and physical throw, pushing Scott into the Jeep.
"Can we stop hitting my Jeep, please?"
Before a fight broke out, Joey pushed the two boys apart. "Stop acting like children. Not both of you would die anyway. It's just a fifty-fifty shot which one spills the big secret first, alright? So... Shut up."
Scott rolled his eyes and pointed at the boy. "When they come after you, I won't be able to protect you. I can't protect anyone." His eyes glanced to the pair who looked an awful like a couple. Their eyes were fighting for dominance.
Stiles was the first to notice how they might look and blinked a few time awkwardly. "Why are you looking at us?"
"You know what? Now you have to do it. Get me what I want, and I will be fine protecting myself."
The wolf sighed. "No, you won't. Just trust me- All it does is make things worse."
"Oh, yeah, really? You know, you can hear anything you want and run faster than humanly possible. Sounds like a real hardship to McCall."
A sad looked grew on Scott's face. "Yeah, I can run really fast now... Except half the time, I'm running away from people trying to kill me!" His point obviously wasn't getting a crossed and Jackson looked even more annoyed.
"And I can hear things like... My girlfriend telling people she doesn't trust me anymore, right before breaking up with me. And I can hear Joey rant about how much she likes this freaking boy, who also happens to be my best friend. I'm not lying to you! It... Ruins your life."
For a second Jackson actually looked like he cared. Then he said, "It ruined your life. You had all the power in the world. And you didn't know what to do with it. You know what it's actually like?"
Nobody dared to move. I mean- The boy was actually opening up for a second.
"It's like you turned sixteen and someone bought you a Porsche when they should have started you out with a nice little Honda. Me? I drive a Porsche." He let out a small sigh and rolled his eyes. Every step he took towards his car, another breath Joey let out. In a way, she felt bad for him. Not that he deserved it.
His car started and he stepped in, driving away shortly after. The trio watched as his wheels turned and they were left in the dust.
But, he should've left before Scott revealed Joeys crush. It was just the wrong time to say it. She wasn't even sure if she actually liked him.
Young love, right?

Allison, the girlfriend Scott was so heartbroken over, kneeled on the ground while putting the arrow tip in her bow. Lydia watched over her.
"What does that do?" Lydia asked with a quivering voice. She was scared to be out in the woods, surrounded by a cloud of nothingness.
"We're about to find out." The raven haired girl responded.
Allison lifted her bow and pulled the string back towards her, then let go. It went soaring threw the air and ended up exploding into sparks as it hit a tree. Smoke filled the once cleared air.
"What the hell was that?"
She smirked. "I don't know."
Lydia clapped and tried to lighten the mood. It seemed to be dampened with something, she just didn't know what. "Well, that was fun. Any more lethal weapons you wanna try out?"
Before she responded, she went quiet. Listening to her surroundings. A swig snapped in the distance. "Hold this." She handed Lydia her bow.
"What? Why?" Lydia asked.
"Because I thought I heard something."
Her eyes grew wide. "So... What if you heard something?"
"So... I want to find out what that something is. Don't worry. It's probably nothing."
"Well, what if that nothing is something and that something is something dangerous?" She rambled in a worried tone.
"Shoot it."
A while had gone by with no return of Allison. So, Lydia decided to call someone to keep her distracted from the eeriness of the woods.
Joey.
It rang for a few seconds before she answered.
"Hello, your majesty. What's up?"
Lydia chuckled before replying. "Nothing, just need to stay distracted. What's up with you?"
"My mouth kinda aches a bit but other than that I'm pretty good. I think." She took a breath. "Anything particular I'm keeping you distracted from?"
She wanted to say 'no, I'm fine. I want to see you. I miss your stupid, beautiful, crazy, face.' But Lydia didn't even know if she meant that. Her feelings were all over the place. All she knew was that she hasn't ever had a crush on a girl.. It was just a coincidence Joey was something Lydia craved every morning, night, evening. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
"Uh, I'm waiting for Allison. Actually, I think I see her, bye!"
The line went dead. Stupid nerves. Man up.
But Lydia wasn't the only one, calling Joey. Derek was to. His words exactly, were-
"Meet me at the school. Locker rooms, now. Like hurry."
So she did. Joeys bike got her all the way to school without any sort of bumps knocking it over. She ran inside and burst though the locker rooms, only to see Derek sitting in the back. He motioned her over and shushed her.
Jackson walked in shortly after. His face was almost red from anger and his palms were clenched. He was angry, but why?
After a few hours Derek paused the music. Causing a reaction from the boy.
"What the hell?" He yelled.
"I like your taste in music." Derek taunted. "I haven't heard this one... In a long time."
Jackson grabbed a lacrosse tick and held it up. "I'm not scared of you. Come on. I'm not afraid."
"I thought you'd say that, and even though it's not true, I called in someone you might be afraid of."
He sent a glance in Joeys direction. Her steps were fast and strong.
"Control does wonders, and strength is always the easiest to teach." He smirked.
And so did Joey. "Hey Jackson, its good to see you, man. Not really. You know, I bet there's not a day in your life you haven't been afraid of something. Especially, not today..."
Derek joined in. "And you won't be afraid soon. When you're one of us."

"This is it? This is the place?" Jackson asked, standing in front of Derek's old house.
Derek nodded. "Go ahead."
Jackson took a few steps inside before Joey whispered to Derek. "Can I leave? You haven't even told me why I had to be there?"
"I needed you to make him feel a bit more intimidated, or comfortable, I don't know."
"I don't even-"
He interrupted her. "Go! I just want information from him."
Derek stepped towards Jackson and grabbed his shoulder. Turning slightly and mouthing 'Go.' to the girl.
She nodded slowly and walked off. Grabbing her bike and riding away into the forest.
Let's just say-
It wasn't just information, he wanted.
Soon, she would know that.
