01. A family

"Junho, are you ready?" you ask, almost yelling from the kitchen.
"Not yet mom, just two minutes more," your son, Junho, answers back from his room.
"Are you on your phone again?" you ask. Your patience is running this ever since he's got addicted to his phone to the point he would be late to school.
"I was just texting Mark, nothing more," he walks out of the room, placing the phone in his pocket. He keeps his school bag on the chair at the table and sits beside his dad, Jungkook.
"Good morning Dad,"
"Hmm," Jungkook answers.
"Kook, he wished you morning," you say, placing the plates on the table. Jungkook hums again, causing you to snatch the newspaper from his hand and place it neatly on the TV stand.
"Princess I-,"
"Eww," Junho interrupts Jungkook. "You still call her a princess, dad? Don't you think you both are too old for that?"
"Why? What's wrong? I still love your mom as I used to when I was younger and I am not old enough as long as my baby maker is healthy,"
"Dad, that's TMI," Junho makes a face, purely grossed out at Jungkook's straightforward way of talking at the breakfast table.
"Stop that Kook," you hit his arm and he grabs yours, pulling you closer.
"Why am I always around when you two are so ready to get inside each other's pants?" Junho mumbles under his breath.
"What? Inside pants? Something's wrong?" Jungkook asks, still firmly holding your waist.
Junho places his hand on the side of his face, to cover us and says 'nothing' before digging into his food.
"What are you doing today babe?" Jungkook asks, smiling sweetly.
"I have to go to the studio today, to work on a song for the new idol group that's launching," you say, bopping his nose. He scrunches his nose, just the way you like it and says, "Should I pick you up later then?"
"Don't you have a board meeting today?" you ask.
"Oh right, Bang PD can't attend it so, probably I and Jin Hyung would attend it,"
"By the way, Dad . . . is he the next CEO of your company," Junho asks, eating the last bite from his plate.
"Don't know," Jungkook shrugs.
"You never tell me anything," your son mumbles, getting up to place his dishes near the sink.
"That's because you can't keep a word inside your stomach. I am pretty sure, you are the one who spoiled the comeback date of half of the idols I talk about at home," Jungkook says.
"I am not a kid to gossip around," Junho retaliates, irritated at his dad's sharp accusation. Jungkook laughs.
"Now can you please let my mom go so that she can send me to the school with some food?" Junho says.
"Yeah surely not a kid anymore, hearing how you know to taunt your father now," Jungkook remarks, letting you free. You place a chaste kiss on his forehead and Junho just rolls his eyes.
"You should have gotten used to it by now," you say with a wink, walking to the counter.
"Yeah- I should have probably, after seeing the same morning cheesiness for 16 years, "
"Wait, aren't you like. . .17?" Jungkook says, picking up his carton of milk and sipping it with a straw. The last time he had checked, Junho was supposed to give some scholarship exams for universities.
"I am pretty sure one-year-olds can't see so properly, so I am 17 but dad, so are you," Junho sticks his tongue out and nudges at how he's drinking with a straw, "or rather younger," he mumbles.
"This little piece of . . ." Jungkook sighs. He starts making slurping sounds, indicating his drink is finished and you click your tongue to let him know that it's irritating.
"I am not," Junho says taking the packed lunch from the counter and placing it inside his bag." I will go now, Thank you for the breakfast."
"Behave properly," Jungkook said, waving him goodbye.
"You too, Jinha is still asleep," Junho winks at his father, knowing how things usually end up after this.
"This- Y/N, do you allow him to go around speaking like this?" Jungkook whines, munching his food with annoyance.
"He is gonna be an adult in some months, it's only natural," you say, shrugging. Jungkook sighs.
"Princess, should we go on a trip next week?" he says.
"Sure Papa," a sweet voice causes Jungkook and you to turn your heads to the little girl standing near the TV stand. She rubs her eyes and tightens her hold on the stuffed toy she was holding, "I wanna go to Disneyland," she said, walking closer to her dad.
Jungkook picks her up and places her on his lap with a big grin painting his lips,"Sure Princess, anywhere you want," Jinha nods and smiles at her dad.
"Papa, can you come with me to my room?" Jinha says. Jungkook nods and stuffs the last bite of his breakfast in his mouth. He follows Jinha's slow, half-asleep steps, with his own slower ones to match her steps.
Jinha's room is a cosy one. It used to be Junho's study place but then Jinha demanded her room when she grew up a bit. So being the big brother he is, Junho "sacrificed", at least that's what he says, his room to his six-year-old sister.
Having such a big age gap between them wasn't really in your and Jungkook's plan but it somehow happened. You both were in a real dilemma on having a second child or not and in the end, you felt the need for giving Junho, a caring sibling.
"Papa, look this is what I drew yesterday with Junho," Jinha says, showing the flowers she drew with her brother. Jungkook claps and then showers her with kisses and praises, making Jinha giggle at her father's actions.
Jungkook then strolls around her room, admiring his kids' pictures that hung on the wall. His gaze immediately softens as he sees Junho's first birthday picture. He remembers how Junho ran around the house with the car he had bought for him and sighs seeing the next photo of the football team he is in now.
It is definitely wonderful to see his children grow beautifully but at the same time, he is afraid of how they have changed over the years. It's terrifying but he's trying to enjoy its beauty.
He then spots a small notebook lying on the table underneath and picks it up. He isn't the one to pry in any of his children's personal space, he is just curious about whose book it was. He opens the first page and as soon as he sees the round letters and tilted handwriting, he knows it is none other than Junho's. He was going to close the notebook when a few papers hung loosely from the middle and he opens it to stack them back.
But when he glances at what is written in there, he widens his eyes. He is not supposed to invade his son's privacy but he can't help but shake his head on reading it.
"Oh Junho . . ." Jungkook sighs. "What is that Papa?"
And he stuffs the notebook in his jacket because he would rather not Jinha turn it into another one of her colouring books. He's lost a lot of lyrics and scripts to her fascination of filling any spaces on pages and books with her crayons. He shakes his head at her, and Jinha shrugs before going back to her stuffed toy. She takes it with her to the washroom to brush her teeth (and might also have it brush its non-existent teeth).
Once Jungkook's made sure that she'll be okay, he walks back to his room and straight to the washroom. He lets the cold water trickle down his bare skin, basking in all his thoughts for a moment. Junho's grown up so much now. It reminds him of the time he had come to Seoul, lost and scared.
"Kook, are you inside?" he hears you say. He closes the tap and opens the door for you. Upon seeing his bare upper body, you immediately cover your eyes with your hands.
"Why cover, princess? You have been seeing this for years already," he cocks an eyebrow up, tightening the towel around his waist.
"Whatever, I am taking Jinha to her school," you say, and immediately turn around to run away. That's true that you have been married to Jungkook for years and are very immune to his honey skin, but you still get distracted.
"Okay, I will probably be gone by the time you will be back," he says.
You stop, hearing his words. A sheepish grin paints your lips as you walk backwards till your back hits the wall, beside the bathroom. Jungkook's eyes follow your body with a wide grin on his face. Plan worked.
You slightly part your fingers to peek through them and see him mirror your sheepish grin. You inch closer to his face to place a small and sweet kiss on his lips once, twice and until the time Jungkook pulls you into a passionate one, letting your hands fall to his shoulders.
"Papa, you are looking just like me!" a voice laced with a surprised tone startles you both. Your heads turn towards your room's door where Jinha is standing with only a towel wrapped around her, just like she said— like her father. Jungkook's cheeks and ears turn red out of embarrassment and he backs away inside the bathroom, closing the door without even sparing you a glance.
"Uhuh, Jinha baby, let's get you to school," you say, trying to save the situation but the damage was already done.
