High General of the Day Court

~Adalynn Blair Adrastros~
The Commander

ROLE
High General of the Day Court

NAME
Adalynn Blair Cirillo

Adalynn
Adalynn's first name means 'noble', and it was given to her by her father. Of course. Her father was the dictator in her life, a tyrant over everything and anything that he could be, and that applied to Adalynn's name too. When she was born, it had been her father who chose her name. If her mother had wanted something else, it didn't really matter, and so Adalynn it was. A strong name. A name for a warrior. A general.

Blair
It seemed her father was really set on the whole war aesthetic of her name, so Addie's middle name literally means 'battlefield'. Sure, some parents named their kids after flowers or peace or light, but none of those things really mattered in the Cirillo household. With peace, they'd be out of a business. No matter what people said, War was never really about peace.

Cirillo
And finally, the only part of her name that she likes. Cirillo. Meaning? ' Masterful'. And that is true enough. There is nothing that brings her more joy than mastering a new skill, or improving them so she is the best (well, she likes to think she's the best at least). She wants to be respected, and also loved, and to be that, she needs to get every asset she can under her belt.

NICKNAMES
Addie/Ads
This nickname is fairly self explanatory. It is used by the few friends she keeps close, and only by them. High fae she didn't like or, god forbid, humans that tried to use such names would get a right shouting at, if not worse. She needs people to respect her, to understand that she is their superior and that if they forget that, they're gonna feel the consequences.

POWERS*
Adalynn's powers aren't actually that powerful for a high general. They're good, but nothing special, nothing extraordinary. However, she has brilliant control over the power she does have, and what she lacks in magic she makes up for in every other department.

Invisibility
Adalynn has the ability to bend light in such a way that she can conceal herself almost entirely from watching eyes. One minute she's in front of your eyes, and the next minute she's gone. Like a shadow made up of thin air, she can go wherever she needs to go, hear whatever she needs to hear, spy upon whoever she believes could be a threat. Most generals would probably send their spies to gather information, but doing it herself is so much easier. And of course she can trust herself. Anyone else is a bit hit and miss.

Light Manipulation
On its own, it doesn't sound like a particularly impressive power, but it is surprisingly useful. Adalynn can blind people with a flick of her fingers, make objects appear in different places than they actually are, make balls of floating light, and glow in the dark. That last one is admittedly slightly less useful, but walking through a dark castle at night can be slightly scary, so it's never completely irrelevant. She has brilliant control over these powers, but continues to work on them everyday. Practice makes perfect.

PERSONALITY
Adalynn's life revolves around her job, so that's probably the best place to start. High General. A responsibility the size of a mountain that sits on her shoulders. Don't get me wrong, she doesn't mind this pressure. In fact, if anything, she craves it. It overtakes everything else. Even when she has nothing, she has her job. Her High Lord needs her and that's what keeps her going. Being in control of an entire court's army is a difficult job, but Addie doesn't mind. She has a mind for strategy. If there's one thing her father taught her, it was how to win a war. Patience, intelligence, taking advantage of any mistakes. She can wait a millennia without a blink of an eye and then pounce when you least expect it. In battle, she is brutal. Unrelenting. Going against her is only something fools and arrogant men attempt. She is also quite a brilliant spy. If there is something going on in her Court, she will be the first to know about it. Being aware of all possible threats is how she keeps her high lord safe, and that is her only priority.

But what of her personally? What is she like to meet? That is a very good question. The answer is almost definitely cold. She can be intense and aloof, belittling people she believes to be inferior to her (which is quite a lot of people, if she's being honest). She is the High General. She doesn't have time for idiots who believe they know better. With people she believes to be her equal, she is still argumentative and difficult, but can be coaxed into a witty discussion or even a sly insulting match. She does love a good chance to make people feel bad about themselves. But hey, even she enjoys time to relax, have a laugh. You might find her drinking with her lieutenants and colonels every now and again, sharing ridiculous stories that probably never happened. It makes her feel slightly less estranged.

Another thing to be said about Adalynn is her anger. Like Father like daughter, it would seem, because she inherited his temper. Or maybe it was taught to her. Beaten into her throughout her childhood. Who knows. Either way, when a fae crosses her, it is not a pretty sight. When a human crosses her, it is a death sentence. There was a time when she believed humans weren't so different to the fae, a time when she had actually even enjoyed their company. But not anymore. Humans are too emotional. They get attached and do stupid things in the name of love or freedom or whatever it is they feel angry about. The only way to survive in this world is to keep your emotions out of reach of everyone, she believes, and humans don't seem to grasp that concept. It's easier just to get rid of the rambunctious ones.

BACKGROUND*
~The Predecessors~
The first thing you need to know before our story begins is that Diero Cirillo was not the kind of man who was meant to fall in love. He was rude and pretentious and utterly consumed by one notion and one notion only: power. All his life was spent in the pursuit of that ideal, every second of every day revolved around that one word. Who had time for love when they had a world to conquer? So Diero dedicated the first 500 years of his life to working his way up the ladder that was the day court. A smart man like him had very little trouble winding his way up the food chain, and soon enough he found himself High General of the Day Court. He had everything he ever wanted, everything he ever needed. A title, a job that commanded respect, a place among the great and noble families of the day court. Then he met Lilliana, and for the first time in his entire life, he felt... breathless. Oh, what a vision she was. What a soothing soul, the kind of person who loved without fear or restraint. Every word she said, every time she chuckled with that amused look on her face, he became a little more smitten. Within years they were married, and they were happy. Well, for a while at least.

~The Upbringing~
Years passed. Decades had come and gone and despite their idyllic life together, Diero was starting to get, well, bored. He'd spent centuries working towards a goal and now that he'd achieved it he felt... hollow. Directionless. The marriage that had once been thriving and full of love was now stale and toxic. Loving caresses turned to harsh stares. Kind words turned into shouting matches. Not seeing any way out, Lilliana just folded in on herself. She became a shell of a person. Kind of living, kind of dreaming. In the end, Diero planned to leave Lilliana. Ditch her for a new conquest to satisfy his need for something more. But the universe had other plans, as it often does, and along came Adalynn. A child. A blank slate just waiting for someone to come along and turn her into a true work of art. This would be Diero's new obsession. He now had a purpose, a challenge. Take this young, helpless kid and turn her into a warrior. A general. And he did. Adalynn's childhood was spent in classrooms and training grounds, one day practicing swordplay and the next studying diplomacy. Their house was less of a home and more of a glorified boarding school where she was the only student. If she did well, then everything was fine. Her father would be content, and her mother, well, she would be slightly more aware than normal. But if Adalynn failed, then things got difficult. Her father was not easy to appease, and his wrath was painful and unrelenting. As I said before, Diero Cirillo was not the kind of man who was meant to fall in love, and it turned out, he was not the kind of man who was meant to be a father either.

~The Finale~
As Adalynn became an adult and graduated from the school that was her childhood, she started working for her father. An apprentice of sorts. She learnt a lot of things from that time: how to get her hands dirty, how to keep herself detached from emotional decisions, how to be feared. She was a perfect little puppet, performing all the tasks her father asked without a second thought. She probably would've carried on like that forever if it hadn't been for Kallan. Oh Kallan, with his floppy hair and shining eyes. You see, despite all the teachings her father gave her, all the punishments and lectures about how love is the only weakness a fae can have, Addie fell in love. With a human. What an idiot. But she just couldn't help it. Kallan had found her sobbing on the bathroom floor one night in late winter (she'd had a nightmare, a nasty one), and instead of leaving her to deal with it alone, he sat with her. Comforted her. And just like that, she was in love. They met up regularly over the next few years, always careful not to be seen. But in the end it didn't matter, because her father found her with him. Killed him. Tossed his body to the wolves. Adalynn had never been in so much pain. It was like her soul was getting ripped out of her body and crushed back in at the same time. Utter agony. So she killed her father. An eye for an eye, right? She took on the mantle of High General, and has spent the rest of her time trying to forget what happened.

SKILLS
~What she lacks in powers, she makes up for in combat. Swordplay, hand to hand, long range, short range, whatever is at hand. You could hand her almost any weapon in the world and she'd know how to use it. As mentioned earlier, she works on it every day, and now she is a worthy opponent to even the most skilled warriors.
~She's a sneaky gal. If you've got secrets, you do not want to be near Addie. Invisibility powers help but even then she has a natural affinity for sniffing out deceit (it's probably the trust issues™️)
~Patience. This is kind of both a skill and a weakness. In battle, she could wait for eons for the right moment to pounce. But when people get on her nerves, she is slightly less patient. Just a little...

QUOTES

'Only the dead have seen
the end of war'

'Test my patience.
I dare you.'

'In the end, the only thing I got from the parents was
my mother's smile,
and my father's tendency to break things
when angry'

TRIVIA
~Theme Song: Prisoner by James Arthur (just cuz it's a bop lol)
~Is quite well liked by her armies since she regularly helps train new recruits and does her best to keep everyone strong and content
~Rumours about her love affair with a human do sometimes circulate, but whenever people ask her, she dismisses it. What happened back then was a mistake. She's not going to let it happen again.
