12. Eno On Tsurt

Just a warning...this chapter's longgg *looks at the 3100+ word count*
------------------------------------------------------------

I chuckled, walking away, leaving her there.

As I walked away I heard her scream, "WHEN THE HECK DID YOU BECOME DOMINANT?!"

I laughed, running away from her. After getting a safe distance away, I bumped into Lance, seeing he had just finished setting up camp.

     He lifted a brow, "What'd I miss?"

(WHO LIVES IN A PINEAPPLE UNDER THE SEA?!)

-(Y/n)'s POV-

"All right everyone get up! We don't have all day!"

I groaned, sitting up from my sleeping bag. I unzipped the tent and stepped out, seeing everyone else doing the same.

I looked up to see Eugene ringing a cowbell. He was standing on a large rock, yelling, "Day three everyone, give it up for day three!"

Cassandra covered her ears trying to block out the ringing, "Eugene, can you not make noise for once? And where did you find a cowbell?!"

     "That doesn't matter!"

My eyes glanced towards Cassandra, still feeling guilty about what happened yesterday. She was holding onto a large stick that worked as a cane while her foot was wrapped in a tight cloth. It was a relief that she could walk...well...kind of walk.

My leg on the other hand, was almost fully healed. I could walk better, but I still had the occasional stumble. Stupid human body.

Eugene pulled out Xavier's scroll from his back pocket, "What does matter is that we get going! Now, hair-stripe over here has the second poem written down," he gestured to Varian beside him, "And I, with my gorgeous voice, shall now recite it to you!"

"Go team awesome!" Varian cheered, making me giggle.

Eugene dramatically cleared his throat, "Ahem..." I watched as his eyes scanned the paper,

"One down three to go,
Hidden behind a water flow,
Inside shall hold what you desire,
But be warned someone's a liar,
Keep your guard up, don't play dumb,
It's better to learn to eno on tsurt?"

Eugene ended his 'monologue' with confusion (He shook). I could feel my eyebrows knit together. Eno on tsurt? What's that, another language?

Eugene turned to Varian, "I thought you said you translated the thing?"

"I did!" the alchemist exclaimed, "That's what it translated to, eno on tsurt."

     "Well that doesn't help!"

The campgrounds erupted into a hot debate about what the words meant. Some said it was an ancient language, which was most likely true, while others said that Varian translated it wrong. Lance and Eugene were arguing, but I wasn't sure what they thought. The only thing I heard was a loud "I OBJECT!" from Lance.

I was in the middle of a conversation when I heard someone yell, "EVERYBODY QUIET!"

I turned around, seeing my sister standing on top of the rock the boys were once on.

When everybody's attention was focused on her she continued, "I know, we might not have the last few words translated, but most of the poem is! Look on the bright side, all we have to do is find some water flow and enter it, then we'll find the third page! We'll be fine!"

I looked towards the others, seeing that they agreed. I shrugged. I guess Rapunzel was right, how important could three little words be anyway?

"We can leave our stuff here since Cass can't walk well. The page should be nearby," Varian chimed in.

We all agreed to leave our tents where they were and try and find where the third page was hidden. I looked around, my expression falling when I didn't spot (H/n).

"Eugene..." I uttered, "Where did you place our horses?"

The ex-thief thought for a moment, "Oh, right! I placed them uh...I...where did I place them?"

"You lost them?!" Cassandra yelled furiously.

Eugene put his hands up in defense, "No! I technically didn't lose them I just...forgot where I put them...big difference."

I glared at the man. I've known (H/n) for about my whole life, losing them was like a punch in the gut. They were my best friend...do animals count as friends?

I watched as Cassandra basically strangled Eugene, Rapunzel and Lance trying to pull them apart.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when I felt a slight tap on my shoulder. I turned around seeing Varian pointing towards something in the distance.

"Hey princess...I think I found the horses," he said with a slight chuckle.

My eyes widened, spotting the three horses, tied to a large, oak tree.

I rushed up to (H/n), untying the messy knot that kept them put. "Hey girl/boy, did the dumb, idotic man treat you well?" I asked, petting their mane.

"HEY!" Eugene yelled, walking towards Maximus.

"You know it's true!" I laughed.

I turned around, seeing a hand reaching out for mine. "Come on m'lady" the person said, offering to help me get on (H/n). Turns out this person was Varian.

I could feel my face heat up at the nickname. "M-m'lady?" I questioned.

Varian had a small, awkward smile on his face. He nodded, "Yup! I don't want you to hurt your leg again." (Yeah Varian, that's TOTALLY why)

I sighed, giving into his request. I caught his smile grow as I grabbed onto his gloved hand. "Here you go~!" he sang, gently lifting me up onto (H/n)'s back, then getting on as well.

I panicked, a blush covering my face. Calm down (Y/n), it's just a nice gesture, I'm sure it means nothing! He just cares about you. Wait...oh my gosh he cares about me! No! No, (Y/n) stop! Varian's just a gentleman!... A cute...adorable gentleman, damn it, emotions suck!

"So where do we go now?" Lance asked. I let out a sigh of relief, knowing that I didn't have to think about my emotions anymore.

"I'm not sure...maybe we just follow the path?" Rapunzel answered, not being so sure about it herself.  I looked up, seeing the clear path in front of us.

I wasn't sure why, but my head turned around to face the opposite direction. My eyes landed on the forest, the black rocks sprouting from that direction. It was like something was begging me to go there instead.

"Hey, guys?" I chimed in, interrupting their conversation. My eyes widened, realizing that everyone had stopped talking and turned towards me. I gulped, not used to getting this much attention anymore.

I took a deep breath, "Okay, can I just...say something crazy?"

"What is it princess?" Varian asked, his eyes giving me some sort of comfort.

"Well...I think we should go there," I said, pointing towards the trail of rocks, "I'm not sure why, but I feel like something's telling me to..."

My expression fell, seeing their skeptical faces. "(N/n)..." Cassandra started, "I know that you have this whole 'future vision' thing going on, but I'm not sure that a feeling will help us save Corona..."

"Yeah kid...sorry..." Eugene frowned, Lance agreeing with him for once, "Besides, going through a forest with a bunch of horses isn't the best thing to do, trust me I know from experience. Let's just go with Blondie's idea, it's more practical that way."

I sighed. Being Rapunzel's sister had it's ups and downs, like now for example. Everyone seemed to always agree with her as if whatever she says is immediately right.

I looked to the ground, embarrassed for even mentioning it. I was about to dismiss my idea until someone interrupted me.

"Hey, I don't think you know this, but (Y/n)'s 'future vision' is what got us here in the first place. She's the person who found the first page back in the castle and that was because of a feeling she had. She has good instincts, so I'm pretty sure that we should go with her on this one." Varian huffed in defense.

My eyes widened. Wait...w-was he actually sticking up for me?

I glanced at my sister, knowing that she would be the one to make the final call. "(Y/n)...I-I'm not so sure..." she stuttered.

I frowned, mumbling a soft, "Please..."

She let out a small smile, making her decision.

"I trust (Y/n), like Varian said whenever she's had a vision it's never been wrong."

I sat straight up in surprise. She agreed...she actually agreed to something I said! Cassandra sighed, turning Fidella around, "Then let's get going, time's running out."

We followed the black rocks, me leading the group. It felt good to finally be the head something again, I can't even remember the last time dad let me speak during royal meetings. I think it was...five months ago?

As (H/n) and the other horses galloped forward, I heard Varian speak. "Hey, princess?" he said softly, "I just wanted you to know that I meant what I said back there...I really do trust you."

A soft blush made it's way onto my face. "W-wha?- I mean, yeah! I trust you too, Varian!"

From the corner of my eye I spotted Varian's concernced face. "Are you okay m'lady? Your face is really red..."

     WHAT THE HELLLLL?!

I felt my blush deepen, "What me? Red? No, i-it's just your imagination! I'm fine!"

He lifted a brow, "Are you sure?"

     "Y-yeah..."

God, what is this boy doing to me?!

-Time Skip: brought to you by Scarlett's procrastinating, Scarlett: "i'M soRrY"-

After a few minutes of following the trail I was beginning to doubt myself and I was pretty sure the others were to.

"Guys it's been twenty minutes," Lance mentioned, "Sorry to break it to you kid, but I think we went the wrong way."

     I frowned at his statement.

"I told you guys we should have listened to Blondie!"

I looked down, avoiding eye contact with the rest of the group. What if they were right? What if I really did waste everyone's time? What if-

     "Guys!" Varian called out, "Listen..."

He put his hand up to his ear, trying to hear something. "It's...water..."

Cass lifted a brow, "I don't hear anything?"

"It's over there!" Varian pointed towards the side of the forest.

I was about to steer (H/n), but Varian beat me to it. He grabbed onto their reins, making (H/n) move to the side. I blushed at the position we were in. Both his arms were extended beside my waist, his gloves gripping the reins. It was like he was surrounding me in a hug.

I glanced away, attempting to hide my red face. "There!" Varian exclaimed.

I looked up only to see a large, gorgeous waterfall, surrounded by luscious, green trees and plants.

(Found this on magicmurals.com, it's by Jon Rattenbury)

I was shocked to say the least. For one, there was this beautiful scenery in front of me, and two...I wasn't wrong. Whatever force, whatever feeling I had wasn't just me being paranoid.

I looked at the others, seeing that they were just as shocked as me. "Hey! Looks like moody was right after all!" Lance smiled.

"Now what?" Cassandra asked, "Do we just go in with one sword and a frying pan? The scroll said to keep our guard u- EUGENE, RAPS COME BACK HERE!"

We watched dumbfounded as Maximus sped ahead of us, my sister calling out, "Race you there!"

     That little-

     "Hey! That's cheating!" Varian yelled.

He glanced at me, grabbing onto (H/n)'s reins, "We HAVE to beat those two! Shall we show them who the better king and queen are?" he smiled, competitively.

I laughed, ignoring the growing redness from my cheeks. "You know it!"

And with a loud "HIYA!" from Varian, we sped off trying to catch up to my sister and her future husband.

As we passed by passed by the rest of the group, I could feel that strange force pulling on me again. It was like someone was talking to me...warning me of...something.

"Eno on tsurt," it said. The voice was like a ringing in my ear that couldn't go away. It kept repeating itself, again and again, "Eno on tsurt..."

'What do you want?' I asked myself. The same answer. I started to get annoyed, 'What does that even mean? Eno on tsu-'

     "(Y/n)?"

I blinked, seeing Varian waving his hands in front of my face. I was so spaced out that I didn't even notice that we had beat Eugene and my sister. "Y-yeah?"

Varian's face scrunched up in concern, "Are you alright? If there's something wrong you can always tell me...we're friends."

I shook my head, "I'm fine! Nothing's wrong with me!" ...right?

Varian sighed, "If you say so." As he helped me down from (H/n), I saw the Maximus and Fidella coming closer to us.

"Ugh, I felt like I was going to die..." Eugene groaned.

"Die? More like die of fun!" Rapunzel laughed, hopping down from Maximus.

"Sure Blondie, let's just get the next page and come out alive."

After helping Cass get down from Fidella, we entered the dark, eerie cave under the waterfall. One step inside and I could already feel the chilly air hitting my skin.

"This place gives me the creeps..." Lance said, his voice bouncing off the cave walls.

I nodded in agreement, my hands rubbing my arms for warmth. Dang it (Y/n), you should've worn something with sleeves!

"Guys, stay together, we don't know whatever could be hiding down here..." Rapunzel warned. I heard the sharp blade of Cassandra's sword coming out. I watched as she held it in front of her firmly.

As I took another step I could feel that something was watching me. My head snapped to the side, seeing a black figure flash by. I gasped, stumbling back, "D-did anyone see that?!"

"What is it, kid?" Eugene asked, walking towards me.

"I-I could've sworn that something was there..." I stuttered, looking around the dreary cave.

Eugene walked forwards, scanning the area. "I'll go check it out, you guys stay put!" he yelled out before going after the strange figure.

"Eugene!" my sister yelled, but it was too late, he already left. She sighed in defeat, but trying to keep her peppy attitude she faced forward, "Let's...continue on without him, I'm sure Eugene will find us sooner or later

As we traveled deeper into the cave, I could feel my heart beat quicken. Something was definitely off about this place. I started hearing the weird whispers from before, clouding my mind, but this time they sounded louder.

     "Eno on tsurt..."

I tried blocking the sound out by covering my ears, but to no avail. I sighed, deciding that ignoring it would be the best answer.

"Hey m'lady, what's on your mind?" Varian asked, attempting to make some sort of small talk while the rest of the group walked ahead of us.

I sighed, "Nothing much, all I hope that we'll be able to complete the scroll soon, Corona depends on us and we can't let them down...I don't wanna be a disappointment..."

I heard a faint chuckle come out of Varian's mouth. I lifted a brow, "What's so funny?"

He smiled, brushing it off, "Nothing, nothing, it's just...we're both what, like 15? You put your life in danger to save your kingdom when your father, the king even didn't come along. I don't think that makes you a disappointment, no I know it doesn't make you a disappointment, princess."

I smiled, a soft blush making its way onto my face. I looked him in the eyes, curiously, "Wait, what's up with you and nicknames? You always call me 'princess' and 'm'lady' instead of my actual name."

The boy shrugged, "I think it's cute. It's an honor to be called a nickname by 'the great and powerful Varian', it means you're special to me." He grinned with his eyes closed.

I smiled. He still remembers what I called him the first time we met?

I was about to continue our conversation until I heard a thud hitting the floor.

"Eugene!" I heard my sister yell aloud, "You're alright!"

Varian and I made eye contact, both rushing towards the man on the floor.

Yeah "Rapunzel, I'm fine!" he groaned, sitting up.

"You look like death, what happened?" Cassandra asked. I couldn't tell if she was concerned...or happy with Eugene's weak form.

Eugene sighed, getting up, "I just got back. I fought the thing you saw but before it attacked I ran away..."

I lifted an eyebrow. Eugene...wasn't being his cocky, obnoxious self...weird...

It seemed that everyone else noticed as well because we  all looked at each other in confusion, before facing Eugene once more.

"Well...are you good now?" Lance questioned.

"Yeah!...You..." Eugene mumbled. Hold up...did he not even remember his childhood friend? Did he get hit with something? And if so how could something wipe out someone's memory so easily?

"Eugene...are you feeling ok?" my sister asked.

Eugene smiled brightly, "Of course! Why wouldn't I be Rapumzel?"

At that moment the soft whispering returned...but it was different this time. The whispers grew into talking and the talking turned into yells. I mentally groaned. Right now is not the time to hear some crazy voices repeat three words, I don't need that on my conscious!

I plugged my ears, trying ignoring the weird whispers...that is...

Tick...

Until I heard them mention something else.

     "Eno on tsurt..."

Tock...

     A pause...

     "Trust no one..."

I froze. My eyes widening in realization.

"Princess?" Varian asked, "Are you okay?"

I glanced up at...'Eugene' saying, "Guys...I...I think I know what eno on tsurt means..."

     Tick...

     Tock...

     Tick...

I could feel someone whisper in my ear...

Tock...

"...Someone's...a liar..."
