10. Isn't This Crushing
Yes, I will keep using show theme songs as transitions, any suggestions???

She probably thinks I'm a disappointment anyway...everyone does...
Slowly but surely I drifted off to sleep, accepting that (Y/n) and I would only be friends.
.
But secretly...I knew...I had a crush on (Y/n) (L/n)...
.
(THERE'S A HUNDRED AND FOUR DAYS OF SUMMER VACATION-)
Your eyes fluttered open as the sun shined on your face. Sitting up, you stretched letting out a small yawn.
'That's weird...' you thought, 'I don't remember sleeping in my tent...'
You stood up, deciding to ignore your questions of how you got there. You stepped out of your tent, seeing how everyone was already awake.
"Hey, sis!" Rapunzel yelled out. She ran towards you, handing you a ham sandwich, "Varian made these this morning, try it!"
You took a bite out of it, your eyes widening. "Hey, this is good!" you said, food still in your mouth.
Rapunzel laughed at your reaction, "Right?! Who knew Varian could whip up such good food?"
After finishing your sandwich you packed up your supplies, ready to face the day. Out of the corner of your eye you spotted Varian, Lance, and Eugene having a conversation. Varian turned around and started to approach you.
You were about to greet him but he beat you to it.
"Hey," he said in a 'deep' voice. He placed a hand on your shoulder and had a strange...smirk? If you could even call it a smirk.
"Uh...hi?" you greeted awkwardly, "W-what are you doing?"
Without you noticing, Varian's eyes glanced from you to a bush behind you. Two men popped their heads out and put their thumbs up in reassurance. "Lance, you said this would be smooth not awkward!" Varian mumbled, glaring at the men in the bush.
"I-I'm sorry, p-pardon?" you asked, not hearing what he had said.
Varian retracted his hand from your shoulder, his face becoming red from embarrassment. "Oh, I-it's nothing, I uh..." his eyes fell on the scroll in his other hand, "I just wanted to speak to you about the scroll! I already showed it to everyone else anyway."
Varian saw the two men in the background facepalm. "You fell asleep last night so I decided to finish the poem!" he said, ignoring them.
"Oh, okay..." you glanced down at the scroll, reading it aloud:
"Your quest had begun
The first page is simple
Follow the rising sun
And look for the symbols
When one end splits there it'll lie
Just make sure to look through it's disguise"
"Follow the rising sun?" you repeated, "So...east, right?"
Varian nodded. He then pointed towards a small section on the page. "There's more..."
Your eyes met with the small lines on the side. Varian recited it by memory:
"Once you're inside you should beware
The tightness will make it harder to bear
Stay too long, you'll meet your fate
Struggle to much and you'll suffocate"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" you stopped, "When did you have the time to memorize this?"
Varian chuckled, scratching the back of his neck. "Let's just say I spent a lot of time thinking about it."
You couldn't help but giggle at his dorky personality. You found him adorable.
You sighed, untying (H/n) from their tree and attaching your bag to their saddle. "Well, we better get going, remember time's running out!"
As you hopped onto (H/n)'s back, you didn't see Varian's lovestruck expression as he gazed at you. His eyes were filled with a sort of tenderness as a small smile appeared on his face.
He called for the rest of the group as he sat behind you. Eventually, Maximus caught up with (H/n), Rapunzel and Eugene on his back. "So we're heading east right?" your sister asked, pointing towards the sun.
"Well, we think that's what the poem meant," Cassandra said, butting into the conversation, "We head east and...w-we'll find out what to do from there..."
The group agreed and started moving east, coincidentally the same direction the black rocks were sprouting from. You looked up, seeing Cassandra was leading the way.
She was a great leader and you were seriously considering placing her as Captain of the Guard before Rapunzel came home, but something was...off about her. You weren't sure why, but something...some force made you notice. You made a mental note to ask her about it later.
You were snapped out of your thoughts when you felt a small tap on your shoulder.
"Hm?"
"(Y/n), look!" It was Varian. He extended his hand, pointing to a tree right beside you, "It has a symbol on it!"
You steered (H/n) closer to the tree, trying to get a good look. Your eyes widened, seeing a small star carved into the bark. "We're going the right way!" you cheered, yanking (H/n)'s reins, making them move faster.
Thirty minutes had passed by fairly quickly, the sun was now directly above you.
"Uh...guys!" Eugene yelled, causing you to look up, "Weee...might have a problem...there's a fork in the road..."
You frowned, seeing the road split ways, but what you didn't see was that Varian had an idea.
"Oooo! Is it silver or gold? Oh, please say it's gold!" Lance exclaimed, sitting up ready to grab the utensil.
Cassandra rolled her eyes, "Lance, it's a metaphor!" She nudged Lance, causing him to fall off of Fidella and roll on the ground. 'Yep...something was definitely wrong...' you told yourself.
"Ow!" Lance groaned as his back hit a rock.
Your sister looked around, contemplating where to go, "Well, what do we do now?"
"I think you guys are forgetting something..." Varian said, fetching the scroll from his backpack, "When one end splits there it'll lie, just make sure to look through it's disguise! It's in the poem, this is where the road splits!"
Lance gasped, "Varitas you're a genius!"
"T-that's not my-"
"Yeah, yeah Varitas, let's just look for the disguise!"
You tied (H/n) to a tree, the others doing the same with their horses.
The group started looking around, trying to find some sort of lever or secret button. You sighed ready to give up, when you noticed a small star on the rock Lance had hit before. You pushed the rock over, revealing a secret hole leading to a tunnel.
"Guys!" you called out, "I-I think I found it..."
The group rushed over to you and stared down at the hole. There was no ladder and you could barely see the bottom.
"Well, this was a nice adventure, but I think I'll be leaving now!" Lance said, trying to walk away.
Eugene sighed, stopping Lance by pushing him down the hole. Your eyes widened as Lance let out a girly shriek. "Lance are you alright?!" your sister called out.
"Y-yeah, I'm good!" he yelled back, "M-my ribs broke my fall!"
The five of you made eye contact, wondering how to get down there. "Hey! There is a ladder!" Lance shouted, tossing it ladder up.
Eugene and Cassandra tied the ladder to a nearby tree, making it safe to climb.
You climbed down, immediately hitting the dusty, tunnel floor. The tunnel was dark, you couldn't see the end of it and there were three different directions to go through. The room gave off a creepy vibe, like something, no, someone was watching. "Well now what do we do?" you asked, scanning the walls.
"Once you're inside you should beware, the tightness will make it harder to bear...what does that mean?" Varian asked, tapping his chin.
Suddenly the ground started shaking and walls formed. "Uh...guys?!" Rapunzel yelled out before a wall separated you from her and Eugene. You looked around, another wall started forming between you and Varian.
"W-what's happening?!" Varian panicked. You looked at the newly formed walls.
"I-is everyone alright?" you called. You heard them shout a bundle of 'Yes' or 'I'm good'. You turned around seeing Cassandra beside you. Her face showed an expression you've ever seen her wear before.
She wasn't sad, she wasn't angry...you thought she looked...scared.
"Everyone stay calm, we've just been separated. There's three tunnels and six of us, we got separated by pairs, if we go though these tunnels maybe one of them has the paper!" yours sister yelled out, once again looking on the bright side.
Everyone agreed and started walking down their tunnel. Silence filled the air as Cassandra led the way, you following behind her.
"Hey Cass, do you really think we can find the elements in time to save Corona?" you asked trying to break the ice.
Cassandra froze. You lifted a brow. "Yeah, w-we're gonna be fine, Corona's gonna be fine, don't worry."
She sounded so insincere it started to bother you.
You suddenly remembered the mental note you made awhile ago and decided that now was a better time than ever to confront Cass about her feelings.
"Are you sure? Because if you-"
"(Y/n), I'm fine!"
Silence....
Nothing came out of your mouth. You could hear the small footsteps coming from the other tunnels. You could hear the creaking from the walls. Hell, you could even hear the slight ringing from the silent tunnel surrounding you. Yet you heard nothing from Cassandra.
The silence continued until something caught your eye. "Cass, look!" you pointed towards a small, glass case covering what looked like a piece of paper. "T-that's it..."
The two of you rushed towards the case. You were about to take another step but Cassandra extended a hand in front of you, not allowing you to move.
"Wait..." Cass warned, "Remember, stay too long you'll meet your fate, struggle to much and you'll suffocate...we can't stay too long..."
You nodded as Cass allowed you to go forward. You removed the glass case while she took the page, studying it. "Is that the correct page?" you asked curiously.
She nodded, "I'm positive."
Cassandra turned away from you and was about to move forward, but stopped when she heard your voice.
"Cass, I know your not the most open person in the world about your emotions, but all I want you to know is that I care about you, we all care about you and you shouldn't bottle up your emotions...trust me I know from experience...i-it isn't healthy." you paused, seeing Cassandra still hadn't made a sound.
"You deserve to be able to vent or just talk it out! You more than deserve it! You do so much for us, just let us do something for you..." you finished.
(This suddenly turns into a Cassandra x Reader-)
She still said nothing. You sighed, thinking that she would be more comfortable not telling you what was wrong. Suddenly you heard small sobs coming from the woman in front of you.
"Cass," you said worriedly, "A-are you crying?"
Cassandra turned around, revealing her tear filled eyes. "You really wanna know what's been happening with me? Fine," she paused, wiping the tears from her eyes, only for more flow.
"No telling the others, but I'm scared. I'm scared that when we return to Corona...i-it'd be too late...and I know that you're scared too. The reason I came along on this trip isn't so different from yours. I want to prove to my father that I can become more than...than this! I'm the stupid handmaiden that follows the princesses around, and that's all I'll ever be in his eyes...i-in everyone's eyes..." her voice echoed through the tunnel, sending chills up your spine.
You were speechless. You never realized that she felt like this. Cassandra, the person you had looked up to wasn't actually so calm and collected as she presented herself to be. You thought for a minute, trying to choose your words correctly.
"Cassandra...listen..." you started, "I swear, no one and I mean no one sees you as a 'stupid handmaiden'. So many people look up to you, y-you're like another sister to me...and I bet that your father is proud to have a daughter like you..."
It hurt you to say this. You were giving family advice to someone even though you weren't completely well and good with yours.
You watched as the tears in Cass' eyes stopped flowing. "(Y/n)...thank you- AH!"
Cassandra was interrupted by a sudden shaking. The walls started inclosing on the two of you. Luckily for Cass, she was able to step out of the way, but unluckily for you, you trembled backwards due to the shaking.
"(Y/N)!" she yelled, stretching out her hand.
You grabbed a hold of her hand, trying to escape the fast, closing walls beside you. Your body was halfway out, but suddenly you froze. You were unable to move.
You looked back to see what was wrong. It was your leg.
Your fucking leg was stuck.
"Cass my leg's stuck!" you shouted. She pulled your arm, trying to set you free.
"(Y/n), hold on, don't worry!"
You closed your eyes, pretending that it didn't hurt. "Worry? Ha, I-I'm fine!" you managed to say. You felt your leg beginning to twist.
You groaned at the pain, "I-I'll be fine, go bring the paper to the others, I can find a way out of this!"
"No (Y/n), you're like my sister, I won't just leave you here!"
A few seconds went by and your eyes were starting to get blurry. You felt your body about to give up until you heard a loud...
.
.
SNAP
.
.
You turned your head around, still keeping your eyes closed.
'Please not my leg, please not my leg!' you prayed.
And your wish came true...it wasn't your leg...
.
.
It was Cassandra's...
She had placed her foot in between the two walls, making them unable to crush yours. You puled your foot out of the way, immediately helping Cassandra out. She fell to the ground, you helping her up.
"Cass, i-is it broken?!" you panicked. She simply nodded in return. You faced forward, seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.
"Don't worry Cass, I-I'll get us out of here..." you said, supporting Cassandra by her shoulder. "Don't worry...sis..."
-Meanwhile-
"Rapunzel, it's been thirty minutes and they haven't come back yet!" Varian yelled as he paced around the forest.
"Yeah...what if something bad happened?" Lance asked, genuinely concerned.
"Y-you don't think that they..." Eugene and Rapunzel made eye contact, Rapunzel begging him not to finish his sentence.
The princess put on a fake smile, trying to remain calm, "Guys it's Cassandra and (Y/n) we're talking about here! They're two very independent women and I'm sure they can handle themselves...hopefully..."
That ticked Varian off. He faced Rapunzel, an angered glare appearing on his face, "Hopefully? Hopefully?! Princess, what if they're dying?! We can't just sit around waiting here! They need our hel-"
Varian stopped talking when he heard soft footsteps coming from your tunnel. The four friends' eyes widened, rushing towards the tunnel exit.
They heard faint panting...until finally...they saw the both of you. Beat up and bruised...but you were still alive.
Varian's eyes widened as he yelled, "(Y/n)! Cass! You're safe!"
You smiled, letting out a loud laugh, "W-we did it! We're alive!"
You waved the piece of paper in the air shouting again, "We did it!!!"
With the last bit of strength you had left...you took one last step until you collapsed onto the soft grass...
.
You did it...
.
You were safe...

Hey guys, sorry for the long chapter, I didn't want to separate this into parts so I decided that I'd just make it longer. I asked my followers if they wanted to see a drawing I made so...here it is!
WARNING: Sorry if it sucks, your girl ain't an artist
I know it's bad but please bare with me, this is my first digital drawing, so I'm still trying to get the hang of it.
The character I drew is actually from a musical! The first person who can guess who it is gets...a shout out? Yeah, I'll give the first person to guess correctly a shout out on the next chapter. (Hint: Think StarKid)
Here's some evidence to show that I actually did draw it:
I hope ya'll have a good rest of your day/night (It's 1am where I am) and I hope that you'll stick around till next chapter. Love ya'll! Byeeee!💛
