~ Chapter Eighty Three ~

"Okay, how do we start?" Viktor asked as the rest of the gang watched him, Lila, Christopher, and Sloane surround the glowing orange ball. "Have you ever moved a nest of bees? You can't just pick it up, you have to keep the nest calm while you build a box around it, and then you trap it," the gravity girl explained. Christopher chattered something, most likely discussing the plan on how the trapping would work.

Sloane started levitating off the ground, white balls of energy forming in her hands as she hovered above it. "One of those black holes inside is vibrating at a different rate. Whatever happens, don't let them speed up or change," Fei instructed. Gotta say, these Sparrows really know how to come up with plans. Well... most of them anyway. Dusk glanced over at Dahlia, who leaned against the brick wall with her arms crossed. The more she looked at her, the more she saw something different. Before, her blonde hair had been curled, but now it had been straightened, with just a hint of green chunkiness at the ends.

"Did you pull anything on Icy?" the raven whispered to Victoria. "I may or may not have poured some green smoothie on her head," Victoria chuckled. "You should've seen how fast she ran off!" The thought of watching Dahlia get some karma made Dusk wish she had been there to witness it. Then, her and Five's conversation came to mind. The redhead still hated him and probably would till she took her last breath. But the phoenix couldn't help but wonder what would happen when her best friend learned Dusk was his blood sister.

Surely, things could be tense mentioning the topic, but she didn't want Victoria to hate her all because of something she had no control over. Or maybe she would pay it no mind. There hadn't been any bad blood between them since she apologized for the things she said back in '63. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a shadow coming into the basement, along with the sounds of clacking heels.

"You didn't tell me you were building a prison for God," Grace echoed. Her figure soon became visible to all of them, she was angry. " You have no right to do that!" She remarked. "We're a little busy here, Grace!" Luther responded. But instead of turning around and walking back upstairs, she started murmuring something. It started low, but it grew louder and louder.

"The day of vengeance was in my heart and my year of redemption hath come!" She chanted, pulling out a blowtorch, her finger on the trigger. With widened eyes, the Sparrows and Umbrellas ducked for cover as Grace moved the torch around, attempting to burn anyone in her sight. What the hell is wrong with her? Dusk wondered as she glanced out of the corner for a moment before hiding behind the wall again.

"Mom, stop! Please, it's Diego, don't make us hurt you," Diego pleaded. But Grace continued to chant, her voice becoming more and more robotic. As Grace continued to send ropes of fire around the basement. Dusk gathered her strength and came out of her corner, hoping her flames would incapacitate Grace long enough for the kugelblitz to be shrunken by Sloane, Viktor, and the others. Fire escaped her hands, and the moment the flamethrower's fire made contact with the phoenix's, the surrounding area became hotter than a 120-degree day.

"What are you doing, idiot?!" Dahlia shouted. "Fighting fire with fire, what does it look like?" Dusk replied. Over the orange and yellow flames, Dusk didn't notice that Five had spacial jumped behind Grace, teleporting her to another part of the house. And the moment the raven noticed she was gone, her fire diminished. "Where did Grace go? And where the heck is Five?" she questioned.

The siblings looked at her with a shrug, but it soon became clear he teleported the threat away from them all. Nice going, bro. They all came out of their hiding places and walked back to the kugelblitz, surprised to see it was getting smaller and smaller. Christopher had broken himself into pieces, surrounding the ball, waiting for Sloane's command.

"Now, Chris!" She nodded as the cube quickly put himself back together, containing the pea-sized ball inside him. Viktor, Lila, and Sloane all panted with relief after releasing nearly all the energy they had. Christopher slightly twitched, and they all stared at him. The next wave was due in seconds, had their plan worked or failed? "Did it work?" Five asked as he jumped back to the basement.

"Next kugelwave in three... two... one..." Sloane counted. Dusk crossed her fingers for good luck, praying this wasn't 'Sayonara' for them and the rest of the world. Luckily for all of them, the next kugelwave hadn't killed them all. Instead, it was a tiny case of flatulence from the floating cube. "We did it!" Dusk gasped. The rest of the siblings erupted with cheers and applause, and as she hugged Victoria as tightly as she could, Dusk wished that Klaus could've been there to witness their victory.

In the living room, they grabbed glasses and all the bottles of champagne they could find. Popping the corks before pouring some for everyone. There was music blasting, all the nostalgic songs they listened to growing up. Some of the Sparrows and Umbrellas even split off into their own conversations. As Dusk sat on the couch, sipping the remaining amount in her glass, she couldn't help but notice Viktor standing there awkwardly. "You alright?" She walked towards him. "It just feels weird... being involved in parties when I'm usually the odd one out," he admitted.

"I can imagine it is, being stuck in the shadows and now coming into the light," Dusk nodded understandingly. She recalled all those times when the press and high society of the city would throw them big parties. And every time they were socializing, Dusk would see him looking from the balcony, longing to join in the fun.

But even though Viktor was never to be seen by anyone outside the Academy, Dusk always made sure to sneak some sweets up to his room before bed, along with a glass of cold milk. "So, what do we do now?" Number Seven questioned. "Well, if there's one thing I want after this wraps up, is have the best night's sleep of my life," Dusk exhaled, smiling at the thought. "Me too. All these apocalypses, doomsdays, and kugelblitz's have made me tired," Viktor smiled.

Dusk hugged him, reminding him that no matter how awkward things would be regarding parties or being part of the team, she would always be there to remind him she had his back. He gave Dusk a look that said, "You're an amazing sister," before grabbing another glass of champagne from Sloane.

~~~~~~~
Later on in the night, it started to grow quiet. Fei told Dusk and the rest of the Umbrellas they could stay there for the night, as both a reward for stopping the kugelblitz and because they were family. However, Dusk couldn't help but feel the way she said family sounded sarcastic. But she figured maybe it was the alcohol giving her these weird distortions. She closed the door to one of the guests' rooms and laid on the bed. It wasn't necessarily queen-sized, but big enough to fit two people.
She tossed and turned, hoping that sleep would soon take hold. But the emptiness of the bed made her worry about Klaus. She hadn't seen him in the last two days. She didn't want to imagine he had been kugelblitzed, but she feared that might've been the case. Whoever's out there watching, if Klaus is still alive, please bring him back to me. Watching him die once was heartbreaking enough. If he's gone forever, I fear I'll never be the same person without him. Just please, let him find his way back into my arms.
Her prayer was soon interrupted by sounds of loud banging, and the feeling of the Academy shaking made her scream. The door of the room flung open, and she saw Lila and Victoria bust in and grab her by her wrist. "We need to go, NOW!" Victoria insisted. "What's going on?" the raven asked. "It's the kugelblitz!" Lila shouted over the sounds of the crumbling structure. As they ran down the stairs into the entrance hall, some Umbrellas had already escaped, and were waiting for the others to find their way out.
Just as Dusk was about to step out the door, she felt someone hadn't made it out. "Where are the other Sparrows?" Dusk yelled. "Who cares? Let's get out of here!" Victoria pulled Dusk's arm, while Pennycrumbs whimpered at the chaos around him. "I found Dahlia and Ben!" Five panted as he had the unconscious bodies of the Squid boy and blonde resting on each of his shoulders.
"Where do we go now?" Sloane asked, looking up at Luther. "We need to get back to the hotel, before this thing eats us!"
