FLUFF? CRACK? IDK TBH
THIRD PERSON

meiling was starting to regret her decision to train in korea. she had only been in the country for a few days, but she was struggling. she barely knew the language and that made basic day-to-day interactions much harder than they should be.

she also had no one to communicate with. the trainees at pledis were very distant from her, which she didn't blame them for. she wouldn't be too eager to make friends with someone like her, either. she wasn't a very open person.

she wasn't even sure that being an idol was what she wanted to do. she was a pretty successful actress in china, why waste it all just to sing? she thought she was fairly young as well, there was still so much more for her to see and to do. she didn't even know she would debut in the end of all of this. was it even worth it?

at least one of those worries was slightly lessened. she walked into the pledis building as usual that morning, looking down as she made a beeline for her usual practice room.

there were very few practice rooms in pledis, it was a relatively small company, but nobody ever used this practice room. so when she opened the door to see a group of around twenty men, she was truly surprised. a little traumatized too.

"hi?" she spoke, her voice low out of confusion and her lack of confidence in korean. everyone was silent. she was unsure of what to do. nobody explained anything to her.

"i'm meiling... i'm from china," she spoke. "china? jun's from china!" one of the many people in the room said. "oh, i'm soonyoung by the way. nice to meet you!" she smiled and looked at the ground bashfully, "nice to meet you, soonyoung."

suddenly, a familiar face stepped out in front of the large crowd of boys. "junhui?" she whispered out of pure shock. he ran up to her and gave her a large hug, which she happily reciprocated.

"i haven't seen you in so long, oh my gosh!" she exclaimed in chinese. he laughed in response, "i know, right? what a coincide we're here together." she nodded, but then remembered there were so many people just watching them.

with that thought, she quickly pulled away from jun and looked anywhere but the group of guys. within a few minutes, each one of them has introduced themselves. after introductions, they all scattered around amongst the practice room to chat with each other.

out of all of them, she really liked wonwoo. he seemed like someone she would get along with easily.

by then, jun had explained to her what was going on. the group of boys were set to make their debut and she would be one of the girls within the lineup. she understood immediately and was overjoyed at the news that maybe her dream of being a singer would actually come true.

"so, where are the other girls?" she asked him. honestly, she wanted to make friends with the girls first because they would definitely get closer than all of the boys. he breathed in, "that's the thing. you're the only girl so far. we're not really sure what's going on. we're supposed to debut in a few months so anything can happen," he trailed off.

she nodded, "i see." the news visibly defeated her. she was going to have make friends the hard way. hopefully, they would get along well. there were so many of them, at least one had to like her.

she approached wonwoo first. he was talking to jihoon and who she thought was mingyu. she wasn't too sure.

"oh, hey, meiling," jihoon greeted. "hi, can i join your talk?" mingyu side-eyed wonwoo, but wonwoo ignored him and invited her to talk. she pretended she didn't, but she noticed mingyu's actions. she wasn't too upset, just disappointed he barely gave her a chance.

keeping up with the conversation was a problem of its own. most of them had strong dialects which made it even harder, but she didn't mind. they asked her a few basic questions about her life in china. she tried her best to answer but with her limited korean, it was a struggle.

the three of them seemed to understand most of what she was saying, though. after a few more minutes, she excused herself and went to go talk to the others.

she scanned the room for someone to speak to, trying to find someone that hopefully wouldn't have a reaction like mingyu. she found seungcheol and chan and made her way to them. they looked nice.

"hi meiling-noona!" chan excitedly greeted. "hey, chan! are you the youngest?" he shook his head and seungcheol pointed to a kid that, to her, looked about five years old. "samuel is. he's from the states."
she nodded.

seungcheol then made the revelation that they were born in the same year, immediately declaring that they had to become best friends. she had no idea what to do so she just laughed. if she was being honest, he was kind of good-looking.

she let that thought leave as quickly as she came, remembering one of the only rules the staff told her on her first day: no dating.

chan and seungcheol were then nice enough to give backstories of each person in the room. she listened to and consumed everything they were saying, trying her best to form connections with everyone.

her day was already going pretty good, but the fact that they didn't have to practice after they met made it even better.

the boy named seungkwan suggested to eat as a group, and seokmin was offered to pay. the boy didn't want to, but by then it was too late. she was about to offer to pay for them, but realized how little money she had, and closed that idea in her mind.

she couldn't afford to go to mcdonald's to eat, how the hell could she afford to pay for a meal that involved a large amount of people? yeah, no thanks to that one.

she sat on the end, next to vernon. or hansol. she couldn't remember which name he went by. he was nice and talked about how he considers korea his home but was actually born in new york.

he talked about other things, but the first part is all she understood. he seemed quite nice though, and she was happy to get to know him more.

the two of them stuck to themselves for most of that dinner, only interacting with the others when they were being asked questions directly. she was sure she would get close to vernon-hansol quickly.

before the chinese knew it, the meal had been finished and she wished everyone goodbye. she took a quick route to her studio apartment. she was grateful for having her own apartment, but the size was starting to get to her.

she laid down on her bed, anticipating the next day where she would officially be a "member" of seventeen. for the first time in a while, meiling went to bed, looking forward to waking up in the morning.
