THIRD PERSON
ANGST/COMFORT
DECEMBER 20, 2022
sakura was worried, very worried. her boyfriend had this terrible habit of locking himself in the studio to work on music when he was stressed. he was neglecting his needs, and it couldn't help but make the girl fearful.
maybe it was how much she loved and cared for him that got her to overthink. if he didn't take care of himself something much, much, worse could happen. just thinking about the boy in any type of hospital bed made her stomach churn.
she learned her lesson when they first debuted to disturb him as minimally as possible when he was in this state. he was egotistical, tired, and just fucking rude. it wasn't anything she was used to, and even though they were dating she was still hesitant to bother him.
but she couldn't let him go on like this forever. the least she could do is bring him some food, he needed to eat. making a quickly sandwich, she packed it up nicely for him. she built up the courage, and finally left the dorm.
she didn't know why she was so scared, she knew that taehyun would never even think about laying a hand on her or even intentionally hurting her. before she knew it, she was in front of his door, knocking.
"what?" he yelled, she couldn't tell if his tone was laced with annoyance or if he simply didn't understand what was going on.
"it's me, sakura. i'm sorry to bother i just brought food," she explained as the boy opened the door. he mumbled a quick 'thank you' before slamming the door in her face. taken by surprise, she stumbled backwards a few steps. deciding not to pick an argument, she left.
and that was how the next few days would go, she would bring him food and he would take it and push her away. he even stopped saying 'thank you.' she was tired, really tired of his behavior.
but she didn't have it in her, she would never, ever, start an argument. even if she was being wronged, she would kill to do anything but cause a scene.
that time, however, she didn't even need to worry about instigating. because he did, easily. "why the fuck do you keeping coming here? isn't it obvious i don't want you to bother me? god, i was just being nice accepting the food. just leave, don't come back. you're seriously getting on my nerves, you're clingy as hell and you aren't letting me just work. i'm sorry you've had it so easy this whole time, but the five other men in your group actually have to work. you can go sit on your ass again, okay?"
she was shocked, to say the least. this wasn't the taehyun she knew, the taehyun she fell in love with. she's seen him mad plenty of times, but nothing ever like this. she was offended, how could he say that? he knows damn well how hard she worked. she looked right into his eyes, and all she was pure venom. this is why she was hesitant.
she tried convincing herself he didn't really mean it, but her heart couldn't help but feel like he did. he was so mean, and every sentence felt planned, as if he was just waiting to get it out. "i'm sorry, i just wanted to help," she explained. "i don't really care. i don't need your help, i'm twenty one, for god's sake. i'm not a child, just leave." she didn't know what came over her, but she fought back. she couldn't let herself get pushed around, not anymore.
"you know what? i'm tired of your shit, taehyun. you're over here, neglecting all your basic needs and i'm here to take care of you just because you refuse to. don't tell me i'm being annoying, because without me you wouldn't be getting lunch every fucking day. who knows, if i didn't come to check up on you, who would? don't yell at me for trying to keep you healthy, taehyun. and you know better than anyone else the extra work i had to do to be in this group. don't pretend like your better than me for staying in your studio, we both work hard. this isn't a ducking competition. oh! and if you think i'm clingy, then why the hell would you date me, taehyun? why would you stay with me for a year?"
"that's a good question, maybe we should just break up," he spat. her eyes widened, and she felt her heart shatter into millions of pieces. she knew he probably didn't mean it, but there was that doubt in the back of her mind: what if he did? what if he was waiting for the perfect time to end it, and he figured it was now? she couldn't put on a brave face this time. "do you- do you really want to break up?" she asked in a whisper, and she felt her lips tremble.
"no, no, oh my god, baby, i'm so sorry. please, i don't know what's gotten over me, let's talk. i'm so sorry," the younger immediately begged. she heard him speak, but she couldn't process what he said. she couldn't process anything other than how her her sweatshirt began sticking to her skin and the room started to spin.
"i think i need a break, taehyun," she slurred. "w-what? like from this relationship? from me? no, no, no, baby please i'll do anythi-" she cut him off, "not from you, just this- this atmosphere. i'm going outside, i need fresh air. i'll come back and we can talk, i promise," she quickly mumbled, running to the terrace of the company building.
she sat on a bench, overlooking the seoul skyline. it was beautiful, and the air felt refreshing. especially after a hearted argument, specially one that made her feel like the walls were just closing in on her.
she stayed like that, admiring her surroundings, for a while. her breath slightly hitched as she saw a familiar shadow sit next to her. she didn't want to have this conversation, not now, not ever. she wished they could just pretend it never happened. but she knew she couldn't do that. they had to talk it out, like adults.
it was silent for a bit, the tension speaking louder than words ever could. she didn't dare look at him, even as she felt his eyes on her. she stayed focused on the view, the sight of him too much to bear.
he loudly sighed, playing with his fingers. she couldn't tell where her anger was stemming from, but she was upset. extremely upset. she didn't know at what, even.
"i'm sorry," he began, "for yelling at you and being an asshole when all you've done is help me. i'm sorry for calling you clingy, i don't admit it but i look forward to your hugs everyday," she slightly cringed, but let him continue. "i would never, ever, want to break up with you. you're the love of my life. i get mad and say shit that i don't mean. its not an excuse at all, and i feel terrible, sakura. i'm really, really, sorry."
she finally gathered the courage to look him in the eye. where venom once was, she could only sense guilt.
"i'm worried for you, taehyun. i really am. i wish you'd take care of yourself more, that's all it is. i don't ever want to bother you-" he cut her off "you'll never bother me." she ignored him, "i just want you to be healthy."
"i know, kkura, i'm so sorry. i swear i'll try my best to take care of myself in the future, i really will." she looked at her shoes then back at him. "it's okay, i forgive you. just, please, don't do that. ever again. i love you."
he smiled, "i love you so much more." she grabbed his hand, the familiar feeling bringing comfort she didn't know she was longing. "yeah? how much?" she teased.
"someone could hook me up to a polygraph and ask me if i love you. i will say no but the needle will jump and sputter exactly how you laugh. that's how much i love you."
