sakura didn't believe it. there was no way this was possible. she sat down on her bathroom floor, her back right against the door. she stared at the test her shaky hands held, the pregnant symbol glaring back at her. she should've known.
to say sakura was lost was an understatement. there were so many thoughts flying through her brain but at the same time, none at all. she and taehyun wanted to start a family together more than anything, but there was always this fear within her. what if their child ends up like her? a broken and wretched version of her parents? she didn't want that.
she would just have to get one that fear, she decided. this is what both she and taehyun wanted. hopefully. a new thought entered her mind, what if he changed his mind? what if he didn't want a kid with her anymore? now she was actually worried.
she looked at the sink cabinet in front of her to ground herself. she looked anywhere but the test in her hands. if taehyun didn't want it then that was a conversation for another time. she would have to face this no matter what. this was real life.
she felt her heart drop as she heard taehyun knock on the bathroom door. "babe, are you good in there? you've been in here for a while." she gulped, shoving the test in her pocket. "i'm good, just coming out now."
today was the day. she was going to tell taehyun. no time better than the present, right? she didn't quite know how, though. but she has time to think about it. taehyun was out and would he for most the of day, so she wasn't too worried.
was she supposed to buy a cake of some sort? or was she supposed to just give him one of the many tests she took? was she supposed to hint at it first? she was clueless. completely clueless.
it suddenly came to her. baby clothing. she went straight to her car and drove to the mall, beelining for what she needed. the longer she took looking through all the clothes, the more excited she got. she would be a mom!
after finally choosing one article of clothing, she made it to the register. "first kid?" the cashier asked and she nodded, "yeah, i'm nervous." the cashier, named yuna, warmly smiled, "don't be. this will probably change your life in the best way possible."
their small talk ended as sakura left and payed, taking the small bag to her car. the excitement got to her and she put the clothing in a box and wrapped it up present-like in her car. she genuinely couldn't wait to tell him.
once she got home, she felt her heart beat faster. every moment was a second closer to telling taehyun that they would be starting a family. it was a dream and a nightmare mixed in one.
she busied herself throughout the day to take her mind off her plans. she made a cake and cooked dinner, unsure of really what to do. she tidied up everything, and by the time she heard the front door unlock it looked the same as when they just moved in.
"sweetheart?" he called, and she made her way to the front door. he greeted her with a sweet kiss as normal, and she pulled away with a smile.
"how was your day?" she asked, as she put his shoes and coat away. " it was good! we ended up not going to lunch though, we went to the movies instead. how about you?" sakura smiled, "i cooked dinner, made dessert, and tidied up. i wasn't too sure what else to do."
"oh, well, thank you. i haven't see the apartment look this nice in a very long time," he laughed and she joined in, walking to the kitchen table. he sat down
while she went to get the meal she made.
"i could've helped, though. i know you haven't been feeling too well lately. i don't want you moving around too much." right. she forgot she told him she felt that she was coming down with something. technically, she wasn't lying. she was nauseous and insanely tired for last few days. he just didn't know the real reason why. "it's fine, i think moving around got me feeling better." he smiled, "good."
a silence came upon them as sakura plated the food she made. she slid one plate in front of taehyun and sat down across from him, setting her own plate down. they made even more small talk for a while, before they fell silent once again.
taehyun gave her many compliments on the food, and she blushed. once they both finished, she quickly brought out the cake she made. "wow, baby, you didn't have to do this. what's the occasion?"
she gulped, "no-nothing, i just got bored. remember, i told you earlier?" he could tell she was hiding something and raised an eyebrow. "you know you can tell me anything, right? i won't get mad." she nodded hesitantly, sighing, "yeah."
"sorry, let's eat." she smiled comfortingly, "it's fine, i hope you like the cake." he nodded, taking a piece on his fork, "i know i will."
there was a weird tension in between them now. there was no comfortable silence, it was awkward. for the first time in what felt like years. she could tell he could feel it too as he avoided her gaze. she slightly giggled, trying to lighten the mood. she definitely didn't want to taehyun the news in this type of atmosphere.
she successfully did so, and by the time they finished dessert, she was ready to pull out the present. "wait, one more thing," she spoke, getting out of her chair and rushing to their guest bedroom. she got the present from under the bed, and put it in front of her husband.
"oh? what's this?" she smiled, "open it." he giggled, "wow, a gift and dessert, and it's not even my birthday. can't believe i have such a nice wife." she felt the butterflies in her stomach at the title.
suddenly, she felt her beat in her chest. she watched as he opened up the box, looking inside. he took out the small article of clothing, and stared back at her. "are you- you're- you're pregnant?" his hopeful yet shocked face made her want to laugh, but she didn't.
"i'm pregnant, taehyun. three weeks along." she didn't see taehyun stand up that fast in all the years she's known him. she also hasn't been hugged that tightly in all the years she's lived.
"oh my god, are you serious?" he spoke into her shoulder, not even daring to let go. "i'm serious, my love. we're going to be parents." she heard him excitedly giggle and she couldn't help but smile.
"i love you so much, sakura, and i already love our kid. i promise you i'm going to be the best dad for our kid and i promise you that i'll be the best husband to you for our kid."
