Hoseok sits on top of the hood of his car, waiting as he has been doing for the past week. He use to be Jungkook's ride to his dorm, but ever since Yoongi's confession, Jungkook has avoided the both of them, and Yoongi hasn't been on campus.
The dancer looks down at his digital watch and sighs. He waited for 20 minutes and still, no sign of Jungkook. As he gets off the hood of his car, he wonders if being selfless would always be like this. Met with disappointment and a cluster of consequences one after another.
"Hey."
At the voice, Hoseok jumps around to face the person. He expected to see either Yoongi or Jungkook, but he would recognize their voices right away. Instead, this encounter creates more fear than either of his love interests would. "Hi Jimin."
It's an odd sight to see. Jimin walking so close to a teacher he complained so much about, as if they were holding hands yet when seeing the presence of someone else, they let go.
"You can go on ahead... Professor." Jimin clears his throat, "I'll meet you later so we can discuss my project at the cafe."
Namjoon pushes his glasses up, trying to suppress a smile at how good Jimin has gotten at lying, something he didn't think the goody two shoes would ever do when he first met him. "Of course Mister Park."
Hoseok watched as the professor walks away and he smirks as he turns back at Jimin. If things were normal between them, he'd call out the obvious, but of course, he couldn't. He had ruined what normal was between the two. "How have you been?"
"I'm okay. Midterms coming up so, studying a lot." He scratches the back of his neck, feeling the tension build-up already, "How about you?"
If things were normal, Hoseok would tell his friend the truth. But again, normal wasn't available. "I'm fine, same as you."
And there it was. Awkwardness.
Jimin's eyes soften, "I know things are weird between us but, I know something happened between Yoongi and Jungkook—"
At their names, Hoseok quickly tenses up, and that's a good enough hint for Jimin to know whatever had happened also involved him.
Sighing, the pink-haired boy walks forward and places a hand on his... friend's shoulder. "You can always talk to me. Even if it feels like you aren't, you're still my friend. Despite everything that has happened."
"I'm sorry about—"
"You already apologized. You don't have to do so again."
Despite everything that has happened. That lingered in Hoseok's head. It was always his fault and he felt like he'd be apologizing for the rest of his life to Jimin of it.
Hoseok feels how tense he is. Shoulders raised, clenched jaw, his tongue on top of the roof of his mouth—He couldn't possibly explain all that had been going on without breaking down. He wouldn't allow himself to do so.
"Right now, things aren't completely okay but," Hoseok smiles as he looks up at Jimin, "It's nothing to worry about yet. I'm sure things will fix themselves."
Jimin, unlike Jungkook or Hoseok, is easily fooled by the fake smile and the fake hopefulness of Hoseok's statement. Despite having dated, he never paid attention to the dancer's mannerisms when it came to faking happiness. Another reason Hoseok didn't miss Jimin as a boyfriend. "I'm glad to hear that then. Well, I better get going. I'll see you around, I guess."
Hoseok just nods and waves the younger goodbye. Once the pink-haired boy is out of sight, he sighs, letting the smile falter as he opens his car door to leave.
Jungkook watches from on top of the fence of the parking lot how sad Hoseok looks as he drives away to his apartment, possibly the cafe to work on music with Yoongi.
The youngest thought that through everything that was happening, Yoongi and Hoseok were still seeing each other. But he was wrong. The two hadn't even talked since the last texts they exchanged before Yoongi told Jungkook how he felt—how the two older boys truly felt.
Jungkook sighed as he looked up at the sky. He couldn't figure it out. A part of him always liked Hoseok, he knew that. But when it seemed unachievable, Jungkook moved his direction somewhere else—he had given up. There was no one he liked until recently. Seeing Hoseok kiss Yoongi, he was jealous. That made him realize he still had feelings for his best friend.
But maybe he was wrong, and that was the issue. He wasn't quite sure where the jealousy came from. Maybe he liked Yoongi instead or was jealous of what they had or was angry that he wasn't even a part of what they shared. He sure didn't like the idea of Yoongi and Hoseok being together, whether it be making music or kissing without him.
Jungkook frowns as he looks ahead instead of the sky. Was that really what it was? That he was jealous not being part of what they had? Did he like Yoongi as well?
He opens up his phone, checking his snap maps to see Hoseok is indeed at the cafe. But when he checks were Yoongi is, it marks him at the university, 2 minutes ago.
The boy can't understand why he is relieved at that fact. They weren't together without him and that made him... happy?
"You make me begin..." Jungkook hums, barely hearable as he sighs. He wrote that song about the two. Yoongi and Hoseok made him begin having confidence, raised his goals, gave him a better purpose and a lot more joy to a life he use to see so gray.
Yet he couldn't figure out if it was out of love or... well whatever else it could be.
And just like that, a light bulb goes off in his head.
If he didn't know what other feelings it could be, then it must be love. He has to like them both. It made sense after all. Yoongi was caring, always meticulous when taking care of him, being supportive yet thoughtful when critiquing his music. Hoseok was kind, always cheerful and hopeful when looking after him, being positive and soft with his notes.
He did like them. He just didn't realize it was both of them. That's why he went up to Yoongi to ask about their kiss and not Hoseok. He could have gone to Hoseok and asked himself then confess but instead, he went to Yoongi. That's why he introduced the two to each other. Because he knew the two would bring the best of each other out, as well as his own.
Opening his phone again, Yoongi seemed to still be on campus, but he couldn't exactly tell where.
Jungkook quickly jumps off the fence, only to bump into someone and immediately fall.
"What the he—"
As he pushes himself off the person's stomach, his eyes go wide as he looks down to see who he fell on. But he recognized the voice right away. "Hyung."
"Jesus Jungkook," Yoongi grumbles as he slides off from under the boy, sitting up, "If I was a real teacher I would have sent your ass to the disciplinary hall. I've told you to stop climbing the fence."
Jungkook just stares. Did he really have to confess yet again to someone else? "Where have you been?" Jungkook sits up as well and the two sit on the pavement as they stare at each other. "You weren't in class for the past week!"
"I'm sorry Kookie," Yoongi chuckles as he scratches the back of his neck, "I meant to tell you but I didn't... I didn't know if you wanted to talk to me—"
"Of course I do!" The younger blurts out and he quickly purses his lips together, he didn't want to seem desperate.
"Well... I passed my teaching course early." He smiles as he places his hands on top of his lap. "I'll be a teacher's assistant next semester."
Jungkook just stares, dumbfounded. Of course, it wasn't necessarily about him. Yoongi thought he couldn't talk to him because of what he said before. He couldn't ever just go without talking to his Hyung. "Hyung, why do you like me?"
Yoongi's cheeks immediately go red and he looks away, embarrassed by the question. "Geez, that's sudden, um..." The older sighs and he turns back at his friend, cheeks still flushed, "You understand me. You're kind. You always have a certain spark when you get passionate. You make everything look easy, ya know? It's like you live life effortlessly. You're funny and humble and smart and handsome as well. You make me feel vulnerable in the best way possible. Like I don't have to hide who I am around you."
And that's exactly what Jungkook thought of Yoongi. He understood. He made things easy. Jungkook could be himself with the older. Jungkook could show his emotions with him. It wasn't hard to socialize when he was around Yoongi.
"Why do you ask?"
"Where have you been?!" Jungkook frowns as he pushes the older, only slightly, changing the subject abruptly. "Even if your classes are done, you still haven't been to your night classes."
"How would you know that?" Yoongi's eyes widen in hopefulness. "Have you talked to Hoseok?"
"Uh... no, you have your snap maps location on." Jungkook is quick to look ashamed of his stalking. "I was worried, that's all..."
"I just needed a break." He points at his head as he softly smiles, "Mental health break per se."
Jungkook swallows as he feels guilty. He stands up, extended a hand towards his friend and he helps him up. "I'm sorry about falling on you."
"I've been hit worse before." Yoongi chuckles and he looks down at their held hands, which Jungkook lets go immediately, creating a bit of tension between the two. "So um, we're good?"
"Duh, why wouldn't we be?"
Yoongi looks confused and he points at himself. "Because I told you I liked you and that kinda, I don't know, sometimes fucks up friendships. Especially when your friend tells you he likes you and your best friend."
Jungkook shrugged, "I got stuff to figure out on my own. That doesn't mean I should shut the both of you out."
"Then how come you're still here?" At the question, Yoongi sighs, "You always catch a ride with Hoseok. He's not here, and you're here—well past the time you usually leave, I mean."
The younger purses his lips. "I don't know what I'm supposed to say when I next see him. Am I supposed to act like nothing happened or...?"
Yoongi smiles and shrugs. "If I was Hoseok, I'd want you to be honest. Tell him you just wanna figure things out before you decide anything. I'm sure he would appreciate it. Given that he doesn't have his other friends right now to rely on, space isn't really what he needs."
Jungkook was shocked that Yoongi would know exactly what Hoseok would need—especially more than he would. Perhaps his mind had been clouded in his own doubt that he didn't really think about Hoseok's own feelings, or Yoongi's at that.
"Do you want me to come with you to talk to him?" Jungkook shily nods and Yoongi smiles. "Then let's go. He's probably at the cafe and if you're keeping track of where I'm at, I bet you can verify his location as well."
The younger ignores the joke and frowns. "But what about your night class? Weren't you here for another reason?"
The older smiles and his words make Jungkook's heart skip: "You two are my priority. Fuck school."
Jungkook knew there was a part of him that liked Yoongi, he very well knew he could see himself dating him. Yet the reason he decided against telling the older was Hoseok. He could also see himself date his best friend as well. The problem was figuring out if he could date the two at the same time. He wasn't so sure if he was ready for that yet.
