^_^ Chapter 3 - Should I? ^_^
It was getting dark out and with no house, barely any money, Nana Ashida found herself again walking down the street. She casted a secret glance at the burnt home that she had spent most of her allowance on. Her mind kept going back to the offer the man gave her but the mental debate going on in her head was nonstop.
Should she, Nana Ashida, go live with some stranger who had no name?
Nana laughed loudly. "Ha! That sounds insane!"she shouted.
"What sounds insane?"a voice from behind her asked.
She turned around. "Oh, Travis, it's just you."she muttered.
"Sorry, but seriously what sounds insane?"he said, looking at her with a confused face.
"Oh nothing..."she trailed off. "What are you even doing up, Travis?"she asked him.
Travis laughed and rubbed his neck sheepishly. "Katelyn wanted a smokin' hot taco."he responded as Nana casted him a smirk.
"You mean you?"she asked.
"Irene no! I meant the actual food, haha."Travis told her.
Nana sighed. "You should go back to Katelyn, she needs you."she said, giving him a small smile.
Travis nodded. "Yeah, see you Nana."he said, as he walked into the direction of a cream colored two-story bungalow with a black stone roof and black windows.
She watched him close the door behind him as she stuffed her hands into her pockets, her black meif'wa ears were down in complete sadness and her tail swayed back and forth.
"So, have you decided?"a voice spooked her.
Nana jumped slightly as she turned around. "Oh, it's just you."she said, noticing it was the emo dude man.
"Here's the thing, you're a stranger and I don't know your name or if I can trust what you're saying."Nana admitted as the man nodded.
"How about you tell me yours and when I can trust you, I'll reveal mine?"the man asked her, simply suggesting a small idea.
Nana smiled. "Nana. Nana Ashida."the meif'wa said, introducing herself to the stranger.
"Nice to meet you Nana."the man, again, tipped his hat at her and she giggled softly. "See, that wasn't so hard, now was it?"the man added.
"Whatever you say, emo dude."Nana smirked as she rolled her eyes. "About your offer..."she trailed off as the man looked at her with an intrigued blue eye.
"Yes?"the man asked.
"...I need to think about it, okay?"Nana admitted as the man gave her a genuine nod.
"Take your time, Nana."he told her, once again tipping his hat lightly as he walked down the street.
Nana sighed; that man was confusing.
[the next day]
Nana ended up spending the night at Katelyn and Travis's; merely because Aphmau and Aaron had baby Alina and she really didn't want to be woken up by an adorable baby. She slowly crept into the kitchen, finding it awfully suspicious that Travis, of all people, was in there; cooking an actual meal.
"Travis? Are you cooking?"Nana asked him, startling him enough to make him drop the frying pan on the floor.
"Oh Irene, you startled me!"he shouted as Nana bent down, picking up the frying pan and grimacing at the burnt omelet he was trying to make.
She scraped it into the garbage can. "How about, I make some breakfast?"she asked him; knowing her cooking skills were far better than his.
"Nana, no. I can do it."Travis tried to reason back with her.
Nana shook her head. "Not without burning it, you can't!"She retorted back, playfully as he groaned loudly.
"Thank you."he mumbled as he trudged back upstairs, leaving Nana alone in the kitchen.
She rummaged through the upper and lower cabinets, trying to find something to make for the most important meal of the day - breakfast. Nana spotted a bag of flour, a bag of sugar, a container of baking powder, and salt all sitting on shelves in some of the upper cabinets. She set them down on the kitchen island as she grabbed a big yellow bowl as well as a purple spatula. She also got out the correct measuring cups - 1/4 cup and 1/3 cup - and measuring spoons - 1 teaspoon and 1/4 teaspoon.
Nana threw in 3/4 cups of flour into the big yellow bowl that sat on the granite countertop of the island in front of her. She then threw in 1/3 cup of sugar, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt and mixed it all together before creating a well in the middle. She turned her back for one second to get a smaller red bowl for the liquid ingredients.
In the red bowl, Nana beat an egg to it's death and very carefully measured out 3/4 cup of milk and 1/4 of veggie oil. She mixed those three ingredients together by simply stirring it with the very whisk she used to beat the egg. She decided to throw in some frozen blueberries she had found in the freezer, and after draining the blueberries by running the water over them until they had had clear water coming out from underneath the strainer, she poured the liquids that were in the red bowl into the big yellow one and poured the blueberries into the batter.
Using the purple spatula, she carefully mixed the batter until it was all clumped together. Nana had already placed winter-themed cupcake wrappers into the muffin pan and using a signature trick she was taught - use an ice cream scooper to scoop the muffin batter into the pan - she had filled every lined cupcake wrapper with blueberry muffin batter.
"This time, I won't forget about them."Nana told herself as she put the copper chef muffin pan into the oven.
She looked up and saw a Google Home sit on a shelf near the stove. "Okay, Google set timer for 20 minutes."she called out.
"Okay, 20 minutes, starting now."Google responded.
A/N: the recipe Nana uses is actually a really good easy muffin recipe! But, the thing is, you can't find it online...haha!
Also, am I the only one who actually uses an ice cream scooper to scoop the muffin or cupcake batter evenly into the pan????
