chapter four: the jock & the cheerleader
SUNDAY: October 13th, 2026,
Gwendolyn didn't think she'd be spending her Sunday morning stuck inside a hospital bed. The stitches on her side were uncomfortable and no amount of stretching or moving helped much either. The hospital gown she was forced to wear made her wanna cry, it wasn't cute at all and the doctors refused to let her change. Of course she'd be stuck inside for the last twelve hours and with two security guards right outside her door, she hated the waiting.
Any second she could be found and killed, it wasn't a big hospital and she was stuck on the third floor so if she needed to escape she'd likely fall to death. She could see the reporters and news vans outside the window and hear the loudness of them trying to get an interview with anyone who walked towards the hospital. The sheriff declared the town be put on curfew and that the drama club remain indoors until this entire thing dies down.
Everyone knew it wasn't going to stop, woodsboro had a history of violent crimes and half of the time they all were at the end of a knife. The first time it even happened the town was surprised to learn it was teenagers being the killings, this town held more deaths than people. Gwendolyn had the luck of a fish, and she was trapped inside a never ending net.
She could hear the guards outside her room talking amongst each other, she knew Benjamin was on the first floor and he had way more guards than she did. It made sense seeing he couldn't really defend himself, he had spent so many hours trying to learn new things and no amount of nurses helped him do any better.
His world was at an end for hope yet everyone kept trying to keep him going, even if he didn't want it. Gwendolyn's phone started ringing and like clockwork Alex's contact photo flashed onto the screen, he had called every two hours to check on her and part of her didn't wanna pick up.
She grabbed it and let it ring for another minute before she finally decided to just pick it up. "Alex, I'm fine, the doctors said I can go home tonight, which means I'll still be at school in the morning".
"What's your favorite scary movie?" Gwen paused as she heard the creepy voice speak through the phone. "Alex, did you have Andy hack your phone? If this is your way of trying to make me feel better it's not working, seriously that voice is creepy".
"Who said this was Alex? Don't you know the first rule of a scary movie? Never pick up the phone". Gwen quickly hung up the phone and she let out a shaky breath as she looked outside the door, she could still see the guards both were still talking and yet they didn't even notice her distress.
Her phone started ringing again and she jumped at the sound of it as she looked down at Benjamin's name. She answered it and let out a breath of relief "you're never gonna believe what just happened, the killer just called me through Alex's phone. I'm freaking out and I have no idea what to do".
"You hung up on me! You stupid fucking bitch! Do you have any idea who you're messing with, I'll carve you up and leave your spine outside your damn skull. Don't hang up on me! Don't fucking...".
Gwen ended the call quickly and then she screamed at the sudden sound of something hitting her window. The guards walked into the room quickly and she pointed towards the window as she held onto herself.
She waited as they approached the window and she could feel her heart racing like crazy as she let out a nervous breath. "Is there someone out there?" the guard turned "it was just a bird..." she screamed when blood splattered onto her face and the guard fell towards the ground dead.
She jumped at the sound of the window breaking and the glass shattering along the floor. "Get down!" The second guard ran towards the window and Gwendolyn moved off the bed quickly. She screamed when she was grabbed "shh. It's just me, don't talk" Alex looked down at her as he pulled her towards the doorway. She saw the deep gash on his forehead as he struggled to catch his breath "you're hurt....".
He held onto her tightly as he walked along the hallway slowly "it doesn't hurt, I'm used to it". They kept walking down the hallway when she turned "oh god, they're right behind us! The elevator!".
She quickened her pace as she pressed onto the elevator "come on! Why won't this stupid thing go any faster, we're gonna die up here". The figure looked terrifying as they ran toward Alex and Gwen, the knife's in their hands were ready to attack and the second the elevator door opened Gwen screamed at the sight of ghostface staring right at her.
Alex pulled her back as the figure tried to cut her throat open. "Don't you assholes have other things to be doing! I'm supposed to be shopping right now! Not stuck inside a hospital wearing this ugly gown".
Alex acted quickly and dragged Gwen towards the stairs. The girl nearly tripped on the last few steps as she turned the corner to approach the first floor. She could hear the taunting footsteps behind her as she tried to pull open the door "it's stuck!".
Alex pushed at the door harshly "they must've blocked it from the other side, it's not budging". Gwen let out a heavy breath as she kicked at the door "I'm not dying in this hideous hospital gown! There's no way!".
Gwen looked at the stairs "I'd rather take my chances going back up the stairs. Maybe the second floor isn't blocked off, we can find help or just hide". She walked up the stairs quietly as she tugged at the door for the second floor, she let out a breath of relief when it opened. "Andy?" the boy who was walking down the hallway turned and frowned deeply.
"Gwen? What are you doing out of bed" he walked towards her as she looked around in caution "ghostface killed my guards, so I'm just going on a lovely scroll along the hospital". Andy huffed at her sarcastic tone as he pushed the door shut behind Alex. "The hospitals on lockdown, I came up here hoping to get a signal on my phone but the cell reception isn't really good here. I should've brought my laptop, I could've totally fixed it so Ben could listen to the stab movies without it freezing every other minute".
Gwen walked alongside Andy as Alex looked down the hallway "I don't see any sign of ghostface, maybe they got scared and ran off". Gwen chuckled softly at Alex's words "yeah right, they're clearly crazy and aren't afraid of attacking us in broad daylight. If I had a nickel for every time someone's outsmarted me in a sale, then I'd have one".
Andy frowned deeply "where does the word sale even come close to ghostface. They almost murdered you and you're using metaphors to describe it?". Gwen shrugged her shoulders "would you rather I throw in a lame metaphor? We'd be here all night if I tried thinking of that, sales are like the highlight of shopping and ghostface takes the highlight away".
Andy looked at Alex and the boy shrugged as he hit the elevator button. "Let's just get to the first floor and hope the police showed up, my guards are dead and they had like really cute holsters for their guns". The elevator opened and the trio walked inside quickly, Gwen fixed her hair slightly as she looked at Andy.
"So have you just been here all weekend? I mean ghostface attacked you, but you're not resting and what's with the creepy backpack?". Andy looked offended as he held onto his backpack straps "it's not a creepy backpack, it's good enough for my textbooks and notebooks. I even brought sandwiches and they didn't get crushed which is pretty exciting. I mean my old backpack would always crush my sandwich and I'd have to clean it off the fabric and it would take forever, and the smell was rancid".
Gwen smiled as she listened to Andy's constant conversation about his backpack. The smile left her lips the second the elevator door opened and she was face to face with the rest of the drama club.
Claire put her hand on her hip as she looked at the trio in front of her with a smirk "we've got an issue". Gwen frowned "issue? As if almost dying isn't an issue already, why is everyone here exactly?".
She turned at the sight of the sheriff approaching them "oh that's because I asked everyone to come here, this case has officially been ruled a homicide and you're all the number one suspects".
Everyone looked at each other, and hidden beneath the looks of worry laid a twisted mask of rage and violence because one of them was lying and it's only a matter of time before the truth was revealed.

authors notes:
this is a shorter one mainly due to me being tired and I didn't wanna not post a chapter for tonight. Also the main stars of this one are Gwen and Alex, and of course Andy and he must be protected at all costs. After like a lot of planning and thinking, I've decided some people are gonna die by the end of this, not sure who yet but maybe at least 1 or 3 of the drama club will unfortunately die but it depends on how you answer the questions I leave at the end of these chapters. Of course deaths won't happen until act 2/3 but for the most part act 3 and I can't wait for that act, the Halloween party gets closer by the second!
