hyejin was addicted to her phone. ever since she got it, she could not get off it. she was obsessed. she signed up for many websites and apps that allowed you to make friends online. that's how she met dongmin.

ever since that day, the two got very close. they would play online games together and were texting constantly. hyejin realized dongmin knew almost everything about her yet she knew nothing about dongmin.

after a game of twenty questions, dongmin revealed his age. he was twenty-three. she was thirteen. it didn't make sense to her and her head told her to leave. but she didn't. her heart told her to stay. he meant well, and after all, age is just a number.

hyejin would come home from school most days and look forward to receiving a text from dongmin. she now realized what he was saying was insanely manipulative, but back then she thought he loved her.

her thoughts were proven correct, as one day after school she received a text asking if they could date. she said yes almost immediately. he had shown her that nobody could love her like he did as friends and she thought it would be the same in their relationship.

of course now she knows she was essentially being groomed, but back then she didn't care. she felt loved. she began bragging to her friends at school about her new twenty-three year-old boyfriend. she was honestly surprised when instead of being happy for her they were... worried?

she was constantly told by her friends that this wasn't right. but it felt right in her heart. that was always her answer to pleas she was given to break up. that he loved her.

after a while, her friends got tired of hyejin not doing anything. hyejin's best friend went to the principal and told him what was going on. he contacted hyejin's parents who then, after a long talk with hyejin, cut contact between the two.

back then, she was insanely upset at her parents. "but he loved me!" she would scream, and their response always was, "he's lucky we aren't pressing charges." she didn't know what that meant. was he not allowed to like her? just because she was fourteen?

a few weeks went by and she suddenly realized what had happened to her. how wrong it was. how he made her think otherwise. she was disgusted with herself, and most importantly, dongmin. ever since that realization, hyejin struggled to trust or even interact with any sort of older men. she's gotten better, but even now, there is always this pit in her stomach wondering if it'll happen again.

jungwon had seen hyejin in the hallways many times and eventually gained a crush on her. he was not about to let this happen. to try and suppress his feelings, he forced himself to hate her. in i-land, hyejin and jungwon could not stand each other. every single thing jungwon did made hyejin want to rip her hair out. they despised each other with every fiber in their body.

it wasn't like they had some crazy event between them that made them dislike each other, it just happened. there was this tension between them from this first day on i-land and they just knew. they were definitely not going to be friends.

hyejin didn't even consider jungwon tolerable until they were forced into a duo mission together. it was actually a fake one made by the other contestants to get them to like each other ( their hatred was that bad ). she realized he wasn't that bad. but she would rather kill herself than admit that.

hyejin felt her hope for debuting slip through her grasp. she was on the edge of being eliminated. there was nothing she could do but pray. and cry. she found a secret spot and just sobbed for what felt like hours.

she hadn't even realized jungwon was next to her until she felt his breath fan against her neck. he wrapped his arms around her and they hugged. there were no words exchanged between them. she eventually calmed down in his arms and when she pulled away, she realized just how breathtaking he was.

ever since that day, she had gained a new type of feeling towards jungwon. she didn't know what it was for a long time, until she realized that she had a crush on the same boy she despised. unsure of what to do, she suppressed her feelings with the justification that they wouldn't debut together.

when they did debut together, hyejin knew she had a problem on her hands. she thought about it for a few months and her feelings were not going away. they were getting stronger. she was not about to be in a group with someone she liked more than a friend.

when she confessed to jungwon, she didn't expect a relationship to come out of it. she just wanted to get it off her chest and finally move on. she was happily surprised when jungwon admitted that he liked her too.

there was an awkward few weeks where they knew that they liked each other, but didn't date. she couldn't stand it anymore and asked him if he would officially be her boyfriend. he, obviously, said yes.

ever since then, these two have been head over heals in love. there isn't a dull moment with them. it's hard to be in a private relationship, however. it's incredibly hard for hyejin to fight the urge to give jungwon a congratulatory kiss over something small. though they both would much rather be public about their relationship, they'd rather be private and still be in said relationship.
