"Find me a way to the rooftop," I ordered him, gripping the gun.

"Okay, ma'am!" he answered nodding his head.

He located the staircase, and I instructed him to hide behind a large container. I took cover behind an air conditioning unit.

Their cars reappeared. "Yes, they're following us, and they know our location," I thought. Someone was definitely leaking our information.

I counted the men exiting the cars - almost 15 in total.

I targeted a burly man with a scar above his left eyebrow and fired. He fell as the abandoned space echoed with the gunshot.

The others scattered, hiding behind various objects. Two brave ones attempted to approach the direction of the gunshot.

I shifted positions, crossing the rusty metal catwalk that supported the structure. Below, I spotted one of them hiding and took him out silently. I signaled Caleb to attack, diverting their attention.

He aimed his gun from the other side, targeting the man approaching me. Another gunshot echoed, and the attacker fell.

A shot fired from the rear, barely missing me. The bullet grazed my shoulder, and a faint whimper escaped my lips. But I froze, recognizing the shooter.

"Caleb!" I shouted, stunned by this subtle betrayal.

"What happened, signora? Is he injured?" Matteo's voice burst through the earpiece.

"Sorry, boss," Caleb replied, his melancholic tone laced with sarcasm. "But I switched sides. They offered a better deal." His cocky smile flashed, revealing white teeth.

My face fell as I realized the lights had been turned on, surrounding me on all sides.

"Damn it!" I thought. "This was their plan all along. I should have suspected Caleb when I found those guns in his car trunk. Why else would he carry so many? He must have been the mole, informing Atulya that Adwait was in danger, manipulating her into coming to us, and setting up this ambush."

My mind raced. "I knew someone was feeding them information, but I didn't suspect him. Oh God, is he working alone? Who are they?"

My thoughts were interrupted by another gunshot. I swiftly dodged by bending down.

Blood oozes from the earlier gunshot wound, but it was minor. I fired again, and the bullet pierced another attacker's head. He crumpled.

Caleb gritted his teeth in annoyance.

The bald man, seemingly their leader, grasped Caleb's collar. "Didn't you replace those bullets with fake ones?" he sneered.

"She would have guessed in a second!" Caleb snapped back.

I'd taken out three attackers, but twelve remained. We were evenly matched; they had bullets, and so did I. One misstep, and I'd be outnumbered.

"Signora, can you still hear me?" Matteo's voice crackled through the earpiece.

"Boss!"

I whispered back to Matteo, carefully not to alert my surroundings. "I can hear you, but I've been ambushed. Caleb's with them."

As I spoke, a tall figure emerged from the shadows. A scar above his brow drew my attention, his menacing gaze fixed on me.

I knew I had to act swiftly. The man was closing in, so I made a split-second decision. I jumped off the rusty metal bridge, plummeting towards the floor.

There were only five of them, and since they'd underestimated me, they weren't hiding anymore. Caleb and their leader's attention snapped to me. The attacker approaching me froze, momentarily stunned.

Mid-air, their boss fired a shot. The bullet pierced my hand, leaving a deep wound. Agony seared through my flesh.

Despite the pain, I landed firmly on both feet. The relatively short drop had been a blessing.

"Catch her at any cost!" their leader bellowed to his subordinates.

Those five men lunged towards me, but I fired my gunshots aimlessly, scattering them as I made my way out of the factory. However, one of them still caught me and attacked with a knife, inflicting a minor injury on my lower abdomen. I kicked him in the gut, making him fall, and then shot him with a bullet.

I glanced over to see the car we had arrived in still parked there. I checked it, but it was locked.

The goons emerged from the mill, running behind me. I started firing again, and they returned fire. I took cover behind one of the nearby cars.

I knew I needed to hurry, but I was unsure what to do next.

I scrambled into the backseat of the car, the leather creaking beneath me. Thankfully, it was unlocked. I hurled myself inside, grasping the keys still dangling in the ignition. Outside, gunfire echoed through the night air, the goons' relentless barrage sending bullets whizzing past the car.

As I ceased return fire, they began to close in, their footsteps pounding the pavement. I swiftly started the engine, its roar a welcome respite from the chaos. The car lurched forward, tires screeching as I floored it.

The speedometer climbed to 120km/h, the needle quivering at the limit. Wind whipped through my hair, and my heart pounded in my chest. I didn't dare glance at the speedometer again, my focus fixed on escaping.

A quick glance in the sideview mirror revealed Caleb's car and the other vehicle tailing me, their headlights blazing like angry eyes. My heart skipped a beat.

I took a sharp left turn, the tires squealing in protest, followed by a tight right. The world blurred around me when I felt the pain from my wounds. It felt like someone was piercing me with thousands of needles.

I remembered my ongoing call with Matteo. Maybe he could help, but I realized my earpiece was gone. I frantically checked my pockets – my phone was missing too.

"Damn!" I cursed, slamming my fist on the steering wheel. "I must have dropped them during the jump."

Agony coursed through my body as blood continued to flow from my wounds, each pulse a searing reminder of my vulnerability.

As I entered the crowded area, I slowed down, scanning the rearview mirror. The pursuers seemed to have vanished. I breathed a tentative sigh of relief.

I took another turn, and my car nearly collided with an oncoming vehicle. The other driver slammed on the brakes, inches from impact. My heart racing, I prepared to flee.

But then the other driver stepped out, and I stopped.
