THE COURT ROOM was a scary place for all. The families of the defendant and the plaintiff's as they waited too see if they won. But, you're never more scared then the defendant.

As June walked in the courtroom with her father she immediately noticed the difference in sides. Ward Cameron and his family was on one side whilst the pogues were on the other. So, she already knew who she was sitting with as she grabbed her fathers hand to pull her with him.

But, he pulled back and she looked at him with a confused glare, "You okay? I thought you said you wanted to come?" She whispered in his ear, staring at her fathers taller figure. He only shook his head, "I'm gonna sit with Ward, sweetheart. We have to talk business."

June was baffled to here that sentence fall out of his mouth, "Your gonna sit with the dad of the person that shot me?" June immediately let her hand fall out of his, squeezing the hem of her dress. When she looked at his annoyed expressed, a sad chuckle came out her throat, "You don't believe me either do you?"

Her father— Jorge put his hand on his shoulder, rubbing it softly, "It's business. How do you think we get our money? Business." He smiled. "Ward has dirty money. Mom wouldn't have wanted you to work with somebody like that."

"Well, she's not here is she?" That words made her take a step back from him as she looked at him like she had seen a ghost. "Fuck you, dad. Choke on your fucking business." She slapped his hand away, her boots making a loud noise against the floor.

Kiara immediately turned her head at the noise, scooting over for her. "Where's your dad? You said he was coming." June didn't say anything because all she had to do was look to her left. Kiara watched as the male took out his notebook and began reading something to Ward whilst Rafe stared directly at her. Though, this time she didn't look away, looking at him with every hateful muscle in her bone.

Her thoughts were brought back when a hand was sat on her thigh, "We'll be okay." Kiara whispered, inhaling deeply. June nodded in response, her eyes tracing amongst her face.

The doors opened and John B was now walking out and he almost looked unfamiliar. His orange jumpsuit was blinding to the eye as she looked at Sarah. The girl looked eyes with June and sent her a tight lipped grin, which was ignored.

"John Booker Routledge, pursuant to the North Carolina statute section John Booker Routledge, pursuant to the North Carolina statute section, you are charged with murder in the first degree with aggravated circumstances alongside the attempted murder of June Quinn." John B looked back at June who only could stare back with nothing to say, only shaking her head with a guilty expression.

Because for once in her life she was useless. She could do nothing to help him and she felt as if this was her fault. If she would've just spoke up sooner maybe Rafe would've been locked up by now. But, that's just not how it works in the Outerbanks.

"If convicted, the maximum sentence will be the death penalty." Those words made all the pogues jump up in shock, "Your honor he's," they began only to be cut off, "Quiet!"

"He's a kid! Are you serious!" June yelled, before a police officer stepped infront of her. "He didn't do anything!" She cried out, Pope grabbing her wrist as he pulled her back, death staring the Judge and officer, "He's innocent!" They pleaded.

"John B!" Sarah sobbed, rushing to the front, "Don't fucking touch her!" June argued, pulling off Pope as she grabbed Sarah. "Come on, we are gonna figure this shit out." Sarah cried against her, stomping out.

"Are we in hell right now?" Sarah sniffled, "I should have never came home." June shook her head, looking at the angry Carrera girl infront of her.

"You okay? Rafe don't let them get to you okay. The system is working." Camilla said as she wrapped her arm around his neck, smiling under him. Rafe could only look at his feet, the longing stare from a certain group of people making his heart beat in his chest.

"Can you shut up? Of course you think the system works because it was made to protect people like you!" Kiara shouted, June standing protectively next to her, "What is that suppose to mean?" Camilla spoke up, turning around to face her.

"They're convinced he's guilty. And when his court date comes we'll know for sure, yeah?" Her condescending voice and smile was like a switch waiting to happen. "Plus June, isn't your dad a cop? If he's so innocent why can't you prove it? Maybe it's all just silly lies between you pogues." She smiled at them and June found herself balling her fist up at her words.

"Camilla stop. I know he's got you all fooled." June was baffled as Ward spoke up, "Fooled? Your son shot me!" June shouted, pointing at Rafe as Camilla looked back at him in confusion, not hearing about this before.

"June, stop! Your crazy, my son didn't shoot you! It was John B, you know that!" June shook her head, hiccuping her tears down, "Fuck you— no he didn't!" She argued back.

"I'm sorry you guys are so upset." Ward said. Kiara snapped, attempting to charge towards him, "No I'm not just upset!" Kiara shouted, June grabbing her by her wrist in attempt to pull her back. "Enough!" One of the officers yelled as they rushed over.

"Crazy bitch." Camilla mumbled under her breath as she stared at Kiara. June was the only one too hear her harsh words towards the Carrera girl. "What the fuck did you just say?" June didn't wait for an answer, sending a harsh punch to her face as she stumbled back against Rafe.

"June!" JJ yelled, running to pull her away as she punched her again. "Shit!" Sarah yelled reaching to grab her wrist as did JJ. Camilla laid on the ground holding her cheek as Ward attended to her.

"Get out! You kids wanna get arrested just like your buddy? Then get out!" JJ held the girl infront of him, guiding her stiff body the other direction. "Let's go." He said, setting a shaky hand on her shoulders. June lightly pulled off of him, giving him an angry glare as the pogues began walking away.

June huffed as she walked away, Sarah setting a comforting arm on hers as she guided her away from the scene. The pogues were now raging.
As they sat in the chateau, the uncomfortable silence until Sarah spoke up,

"I'm gonna testify under oath. I was there— June you should too! I need to get a hold of my sister." Sarah spoke up, June looking at her in disbelief. "Sister?" JJ stared with fierce eyes. "Kie, do you have your phone?"

"Wheezie is the only other person that knows Rafe wasn't home that day." Sarah quickly took the phone from Kiara, waiting for a response from the pogues. "Wheezie?" JJ blurred out, "I don't know what else to do!"

"I got us into this mess. I'm gonna do my best to get us out!" The sound of the door slamming made June slightly jump, biting her nail with anxiety.

Kiara's eyes traveled to June who was rested on the wall next to her, and the lingering sense of pain came with that. "Wheezie? Yeah, that will work. Well, she's right about one thing. We gotta do something." JJ explained, "Our boy is a PO-dub right now, okay? He's held captive by the enemy right now, maybe even scheduled for execution!"

"JJ, what do you want us to do really? Tell me what you want us to do!" June shot up from her spot on the wall, her loud voice bringing shock to the group. "Okay, you want us to Kidnap shoupe?" Kiara stood up as well now face to face with JJ, "Maybe like that's not the worst idea actually."

June took a deep breath, turning back around as her hands held her face. "Oh it's not?"

"No!" JJ disagreed, "That is actually the worst idea I've ever heard." Pope chimed in, "it's pretty bad." Sarah agreed from the other room. "You know what? Please, just stay out of this."

"Okay, Pope, we've been doing everything your way and how has that been working out? Huh!" JJ angrily stated. "Okay. Okay, so what's your plan? You gonna storm a jail, guns a-blazing?" Pope slowly stood up, the tension in the room rising as they now stood head to head, "Look, all I'm trying to get you to understand is they got our boy."

June stared at the scene in defeat. She realized how far this had come— and not in a good way. This couldn't be reversed, maybe fixed but they will always remember the terror of watching their bestfriend be beaten. Her heart ached, and she agreed with JJ.

They couldn't get away with this.

"JJ's right. We have to do something." Pope and Kiara looked at June in confusion as she spoke up, "Are you serious right now?" Kiara said, squinting her expression. "June, it's not happening! Both of you." Kiara demanded, "Kiara!" She was quickly cut off by JJ's voice, "No it's fine. Sit in your comfy chair. Do nothing."

As JJ walked out, all she wanted to do was help. But, the disappointed stare that came from Kiara's eyes, she knew better than to walk out that door without her. "I'm gonna hit my parents and I'm gonna see if I can get money for a lawyer."

"I'll um, call mines. He can always work with two or three." June said, eyeing Sarah before walking out the door.

Soon after, the footsteps that followed were recognized as Kiara when she grabbed her wrist, "What was that?"

"What was what? Me trying to save my best friend from death row?" Kiara stood frozen at the words that came out of her mouth, "I don't have time for this." June deadpanned, pushing her arm off as she began to walk away.

"June— Your not going anywhere. Just stop for two seconds." She said, holding her hand softly. June's breath hitched as she looked at the wall, refusing to look her in her eyes. "I don't want you hurt trying to kill yourself for something that you cannot control." Her stern tone made her eyes drop to the floor completely now.

"Look at me," Kiara demanded in a harsh tone, "I cannot see you hurt again."

June shook her head, "If I would've just spoke up sooner, maybe— maybe this would've went so differently. I was just so scared of him. I cannot stop thinking about his face— he," Kiara could no longer listen to her shaky voice and tears that welled up in her eyes as she took her in her arms.

"We will get him. You are so much more than the girl Rafe Cameron shot." Kiara placed to hands on her face as June nodded wiping the tears from her face. "I love you so much." She winced at her own words, throwing her arms over her. Kiara's mouth dropped slightly, shutting her eyes in pure happiness at her words. "I love you too, Ju."

"Go get to calling. Meet back here okay?" June nodded, wiping her face as she walked out the door.

When Kiara walked back in the chateau, Sarah sat on the couch, fiddling with her fingers. It seemed like she heard the whole conversation— she was listening. She was missing out on so much. Her bestfriend was slowly and slowly breaking apart and she told her to never speak to her again.

So, as Sarah stared blankly at the Carrera girl who had grabbed June's heart the moment she decided to walk away, it was only regret she felt. Regret that all of this happened.

She wished she never even kissed her that day. Maybe it would've been different. Maybe she would've been the one holding her best friend and telling her how much she loved her.

But, she already chose her pick, even if it wasn't the right choice.
