KIARA CARRERA couldn't stop thinking about June. Like usual. But, this time it was different.
As she replayed the kiss over and over in her head she could only think of one thing. How long before Sarah swoops in and gets takes June away for herself?
Because Kiara wasn't an idiot. Sooner or later Sarah was gonna come to her senses and realize what kind of girl she lost.
A girl that Kiara has loved since the day she picked up her books on the first day of school. Or since she invited her to pick up trash along the beach.
Kiara was so deeply fond of her.
But, June didn't know what to do as she walked, nervously playing with her fingers. She came to terms with the fact that she didn't regret the kiss with Kiara at all. In fact, it was like a weight lifting off her heart.
She just didn't know who she wanted. The girl who betrayed her, or the girl who betrayed her?
June kicked a tree angrily, grunting at the impact as she held her foot in pain, jumping in a circle before she fell. "Fuck!"
This was all pointless. She felt like nothing mattered, but for some reason she still hoped as she got up, mentally cursing to herself as she rubbed her foot.
Her mind was her own enemy in this choice. They would both hurt her in the end, no matter where this goes.
Sarah would run back to John B or Topper after one argument, even if she caused it. She was always like that. She didnt know how to commit. But, June always comforted her and said, "We all have things we have to work on." But, somehow, she never worked on it.
And Kiara swore she could see her life flash before her eyes as the pretty girl walked down the deck. "What's up?"
John B gave her a light glare which only made her entirely more uncomfortable before the silence was broke, "Ward got the gold. He took the last of it."
"What?" Her heart cracked even more as he broke the news, nodding to her. "I went to see and there was nothing. At all."
He grunted as he ripped of his arm brace, "Look, it's not like I expected a happy ending or some shit."
Kiara groaned to herself at the sight, "John B," he returned the favor, interrupting her, "What, Kie? It's a hairline fracture. Who cares?"
"You should care. Your arms gonna be messed up for life." She pointed out, "It's fine see." John wiggled his fingers teasingly.
"Guys!"
The four of their heads turned quickly at the noise, "Oh, god! I ran all the way here."
"You all right?"
"How was the interview?" June asked, looking at him with proud eyes, "Don't ask. JB, look, I'm sorry, dude. About everything." He sighed, panting loudly, "But, I don't have a lot of time. And I have information that is tactically relevant."
"So, before I had my interview, my dad said he was going down to the private airstrip to cut palms for Cameron's big plane. Because it was too heavy it needed a longer landing strip to take off." They all looked curiously at his words,
"So, I'm there sitting in my interview, thinking to myself, "Hm. Why would Cameron need a longer airstrip to take off?" What could be so heavy to weigh it down?"
"Gold." JJ spoke up. "Exactly!"
"Guys, this is our chance. But, it leaves tonight and we have to go."
"Guys, we can't give up now." Kiara said, standing up when the brunette did, "Agreed. JB?"
"What's the plan big man?"
"We're gonna steal that shit back." June smiled, looking behind her to see if Kiara was sharing just as much joy. But, her heart skipped another beat when she met her eyes.
"Let's do this!" Pope cheered, running quickly.
June bounced her leg in worry as she sat in the Twinkie, her heart racing as she helped JJ load the guns, "So, what's the plan, J?"
"We go in there guns a'blazin, make Ward Cameron beg for mercy abscond with as much gold as possible and váninos, get the hell out of here." June smiled proudly, "As my mama would always say, "Algunas personas no pueden ayudar a los cazados." The Spanish accent made their heads turn in confusion and curiosity.
"Some people can't help the hunted."
THE FIVE POGUES rushed to the gate, anxiety coursing through their veins as they looked at the sight infront of them.
June felt like something was off. Like something terribly bad was about to happen. Maybe to Sarah, or John B, Kiara. She couldn't let that happen.
Not again.
Her hand reached to her pocket as she gripped the weapon that was strapped into her pants, taking a deep breathe before she spoke, "What's the plan?"
"I don't think we got that far." John B explained. Silence was brought upon them as John B looked through the binoculars, taking a hitched breathe as he looked at the scene infront of him, "It's Sarah."
June almost fell to the ground at the name, "Is she in trouble? Let me see." June quickly took it from him, looking at the scene. There the blonde girl was.
Sarah walked towards the scene, fear and confusion filling her body, "Come on, guys. Let's get this stuff loaded." Ward spoke, ordering his workers around like dogs. "What's in the boxes?"
"Uh, just some decorative marble pieces that Rose found from properties down there. Antiques, I think." He was obviously lying as he stumbled across his words.
"That's it! Close it up!" Sarah was not going until she figured this out. "Excuse me! What's in those crates?" And again she was turned down.
"Hey. No, come on."
"I'm just asking a question." Sarah grumbled, pulling out his grip, "I know, it's fine. Get on the plane." He pointed to the open door, worry that his daughter will not comply.
"No. I changed my mind. I'm going home." She shrugged, beginning to walk away, "Sarah. Sarah!" Ward yelled, pleading as he ran towards her, "Excuse me! No!"
"Do not cause a scene." Ward demanded to his daughter, shaking his head warningly. "Stop! Stop! No! No!"
"Go! Get on this plane."
June shook her head as she lowered the binoculars from her eyes, "He's hurting her."
"What?" John B questioned her, taking them out her hand to see for himself. They shared a look, immediately racing towards the car. "No, June!"
Kiara grabbed her wrist before she could get away, "Kie, I have to help her." She shook her head. "You could get hurt!"
"I'll be fine. Stay here!" June pointed to her, pulling out her grip, "June!"
Kiara was practically shaking as she watched her get in the Twinkie, cursing to herself, "Please! Where are you going!"
"John B! Hey!"
June shook the thoughts out her head, squeezing her eyes closed as she quickly buckled on her seatbelt, "Hold on!"
John B was ruthless as he drove into the gate, quickly driving as he took occasional glances to the girl beside him, "Eyes on the road! Go faster, JB!" June cursed at him, watching him step on the gas.
"I'm trying!"
June unbuckled her seatbelt quickly as they pulled beside the airplane, which drew her attention quickly. "John B," her eyes quickly softened with a smile at the sight of her best friend in the seat next to him, teary eyed as well, "You're okay." They nodded.
But, when Ward noticed, a shift in his face was like a bullet as he yelled, "Get off the runway!"
"Get off!"
June squeezed her eyes closed as John B pulled infront of the place, trying to catch her breathe as a tear fell from her eyes. But when the car stopped, and a hand laid on hers she was only given the chance to see John B's smile.
"I got you." He squeezed her hand, also shutting his eyes as the plane got closer, "Okay."
When the echoes of the wind stopped, the two didn't hesitate to jump out the car, "Sarah! Sar'!"
Sarah hesitated as she looked between the two and when the eyes of her best friend turned to sadness at the sight of her, Sarah turned a switch.
"Ju!" Sarah cried, jumping into her arms, feeling another wrap around them, "I got you. I got you."
"Oh my god! Are you okay!" June pulled back, setting two hands on her face as John B got infront of them, hand infront to shield them, "Fine! I'm fine."
And when Ward reached a hand out to even graze Sarah, the sound of clicking was heard, "Don't touch her!"
Sarah jumped, "June!"
"You think this chances anything? It doesn't." He grumbled angrily, inching closer and closer, "Put it down. June, down!" John B groaned, watching her angry face as she kept her hand on the trigger.
The sirens didn't even stop her as she kept her ground, though now she let the gun face the floor at his words, "This chances a lot." She pointed with her head, looking at the cop car.
"You gotta get outta here." Sarah said, putting a hand on John B's face.
"Oh! Thank god you're here. Susan, I told you he lost his goddamn mind. And now he's got June wrapped around his finger." He pointed at the gun in her hand, which made her shake her head.
"Put your hands on your head." Peterkin demanded, "I'd do what she said." Ward turned around.
"She's talking to you, Ward."
The sound of a gun clocking was a familiar sound to the group as Peterkin looked at the girl, "You're safe. Put the gun away, kid." She nodded, quickly putting it away, before shaking her head at Sarah at the sight of her father on his hands on his head.
"You're under arrest for the murder of 'Big John' Routledge. And Summer Quinn." John B and Sarah looked at each other in confusion before John B took the girl in his arms letting her tears fall out her eyes.
June only stood where she was, a hand on her heart as she shook her head. Was this really happening? Her mom was officially presumed dead. And the killer was found.
No more missing posters. No more helpless nights wondering what happened. Because it was a who happened. And he was standing right infront of her face.
"Oh my god." Sarah and John B backed up, John pulled the girl away from the scene whilst June stayed, her feet glued to the ground.
"Are you kidding me, Sue?" He yelled, "Put your hands on your head!"
"Turn around." She continued to demand as she complied, "Drop to your knees!" Peterkin inched closer, pulling out her hand cuffs. "I waited a long time for this."
Ward snapped, pushing her arms backwards, to pull his body around, only to be faced by a gun, "No!" Sarah cried. June stepped up, but quickly stopped her motioned at the sound of a gunshot.
Two gun shots went off.
