37.5 | You weren't even that drunk!

"You slept on the couch the whole night?"

The next morning is quieter than Jeongguk thought it would be. He woke up to Minhee screaming early in the morning and then her recalling the incidents in a monologue long enough for him to brush his teeth, order breakfast and look through the map of Paris.

The question posed is after Minhee has completely made sense of her surroundings, complained about her headache after every other sentence and stared at Jeongguk sitting on the couch with a pillow placed beside him.

"No," Jeongguk says, folding the map in his hand. "I slept in the bathroom for an hour, then at Betty's house and woke up floating on the Seine."

"Who's Betty?" Minhee immediately asks. Jeongguk scoffs, rolling his eyes. "Duh, of course I slept on the couch, did you expect me to sleep on the same bed with you?"

Minhee looks exasperated, "But it's unfair. It's your room and even if you're insufferable, all people deserve a proper bed to sleep on and the couch is not that."

Jeongguk is taken aback. He expected Minhee to be mad for having her sleep here, letting her get drunk like that but she is quiet...and worried for him? He feels himself melting a bit, it makes him dizzy. God, Minhee is such an exhausting person to be with.

"Well, if you only didn't 'hide' your key card somewhere, I wouldn't have slept here," he shrugs. Minhee gets off the bed, holds the wall to maintain her balance as she feels a pain in her temples and picks up her phone placed on the table, mumbling, "Thank you, anyway."

Jeongguk doesn't reply, getting back to unfolding the map. Minhee pats her pockets, slips a hand inside them and even faces the wall to peek inside her bra— any place she could have possibly hidden the key but it was nowhere to be seen. "I can't find my card key..."

Jeongguk looks up, scans her from top to bottom before looking back to his map. "Get a new one from the reception."

"I will have to pay for that." Minhee says, sheepishly smiling, "And I have nothing on me."

Jeongguk places the map on the table, furrowing his eyebrows. "But you did carry a small cardholder with you," he tries to recall, "You had kept money in it too."

"Huh?" Minhee widens her eyes, failing to recall.

Jeongguk nods, "You even paid for a small keychain you bought on the street before we got on the beer bike." He smirks, "Don't you remember?"

Minhee darts around her memory— them bickering in the elevator to decide what they'll do, her buying the keychain (Oh yes, I did buy it!), her clicking a picture of a dog and then the beer bike— and then...Wait.

"Fuck."

Jeongguk scoffs, "Now you remember."

"I flushed them down the toilet." Minhee simply says, eyes blown wide and panicked. Jeongguk pauses, trying to process her words. "What, you didn't even go—"

Minhee rushes to his bathroom, recalling the last time she saw her wallet. "I recall waking up in the night and removing my card key!"

'What, when and why?"

"I think I knew this isn't my room," Minhee hisses, looking around the bathroom. "I think I flushed my keycard and keychain while trying to switch on the lights." She crouches down, holding her head, and hitting her temples.

"Real mature Minhee, you've drunk, wasted money and flushed your keycard down the moment you stepped in Paris." Jeongguk claps, shaking his head. "City of love, ayye."

"You're not helping Jeon," Minhee groans, hiding her face in her palms.

"Wallet, where's your wallet?"

Minhee leans her head on the wall, "I can't remember."

"You weren't even that drunk!" Jeongguk says, agitated. "Did you flush that too?"

"No..."

"You just said you can't remember," Jeongguk points out. Minhee stands up, "I remember taking out the card and coming inside, thinking this is my room and..."

Jeongguk nods, encouraging as he gestures to her to continue. "And..where did you keep your wallet?"

"Your cupboard," Minhee claps her hand once, recalling, "It must be in your cupboard."

Jeongguk tilts his head, following her out. "Was I that deep in sleep that I didn't even hear you walking around?"

And that's strange because Jeongguk was sure he wouldn't be able to sleep. He can hardly when he is at home, knowing Minhee is two rooms away and today, he slept— and didn't even hear her?

"Is it there?" he asks when Minhee opens the cupboard. Empty. Minhee laughs awkwardly, "It must be somewhere here..."

They look around the room— behind the bed, under the bed, in Jeongguk's shoes, in his suitcase, because Minhee was drunk and probably lost her mind to pay attention to what she was touching.

"It's not there," Jeongguk says, putting his hands up. He sounds breathless after staying in the bent position for five minutes straight, "Are you sure you didn't flush it down with the keycard?"

Minhee rubs the back of her neck, "Maybe?"

Jeongguk rolls his eyes, raising his hands in the air in disbelief and letting them fall, hitting his thighs. "Congratulations Ms Yoon Minhee, you've crossed all the limits today."

"What should I do now?" Minhee asks, voice small.

Jeongguk looks at her, face blank. "What should I do? Is that your question?" He raises both of his eyebrows. "God, Minhee, are you serious? What would you do? Call your secretary and get your cards cancelled!"

"Oh shit, where's my phone now?"

"For fuck's sake, it's in your hand!"
