32 | Knowing too much
─── ·𖥸· ───
Jeongguk groans, hitting his head on the wall as he leans, watching the clothes rotate in the washing machine.
Silence, he got that yesterday. He should have slept ever so peacefully but he thinks the issue never was that since the beginning. Just knowing that someone else lives in the same house as him— especially someone like Minhee— it's hard to fall asleep. The night didn't end on a good note either, he kept tossing and turning on his bed and replaying the whole scenario at the Yoon mansion.
His brain could join only a few dots till now, but he's getting there. It is starting to make sense why Minhee would marry someone who only has half of the money she does. Why would she choose him, who isn't a threat to her position as a CEO business-wise but more on the connections he has with her dad. The big picture, he can see it get painted in front of him.
"Are you okay, Jeongguk?"
Jeongguk flinches when he feels a hand on his shoulder but relaxes when he sees it's his mother. She came in just a few minutes ago, claiming she wanted to see if Minhee has found enough reasons to divorce Jeongguk because— boy, do you realise it's abnormal to put milk before cereals— but Jeongguk knows that the news from last night has made its way to her through articles. She's here to just check upon them. He appreciates that.
"Mom, could you please feed Bam?" he says, unbuttoning his night-shirt, "I will quickly have a shower."
She nods and then hits his chest. "What about you? Do I have to feed this big puppy as well?" Jeongguk huffs, discarding his shirt and throwing it on the washing machine. "What is this body, huh? Are you Iron Man?"
Jeongguk chuckles and steps forward, bringing his hands to her cheeks, pinching them. "Yes, I am." and then proceeds to hug her despite her protests, "Be my Jarvis please."
"I bought a new plant last Sunday, I named it Jarvis because your Dad said you'd like it."
Jeongguk shakes his head, retreating and walking towards his room. "I would need a Friday too."
"No side chicks." to which Jeongguk laughs heartily.
Jeongguk's mother is immediately petting Bam and feeding him, but her eyes are trained on the closed door of Minhee's bedroom. She doesn't know too much about business but Jeongguk's dad didn't look too happy when he read the news— explained in some vague terms about Minhee getting in trouble.
She wouldn't normally say anything, knowing she would be of no help in this matter but Minhee's nothing but only a child in her eyes. The child she had seen goaling twice in a soccer game at a school she had visited, the child who used to bow shyly everytime she was given a chocolate and the child who was forced to grow up fast because the world was too cruel to her.
She can't help herself but approach the closed doors— she could hear murmurs before but now it's clear.
"I can't believe she would do this, Dahyun, seriously. What did she expect to do later, flaunt her wealth in her kitty later?"
The mention of the kitty makes Mrs Jeon still, her hand stuck on the handle of the door.
"I understand, but did she have to come all the way to my office to put me down like that, that day? I am so frustrated, I don't even want to face her."
To her office? Is she talking about me? It only makes sense she is, right?
"Jeongguk knew, right? I think he did, he didn't even find the need to tell me beforehand!"
She did tell Jeongguk about wanting Minhee to accompany her to the kitty. Was she so hurt by the offer? Why didn't she mention this before?
"She didn't even think once, can't even use her head! Why does she pretend to know it all when everything just goes wrong whenever she tries!"
Mrs Jeon staggers back, almost falling to the floor. She didn't know her offer would offend Minhee so much, otherwise she would have never mentioned it. It's her mistake, maybe she should have listened to Jeongguk.
She is stuffing all her belongings inside her purse when Jeongguk comes out, all dressed and ready for work. "Oh mom, I thought you wanted to be here and take Minhee to go shopping today. Are you going, is it urgent?"
"Yeah...a client called me, they need some medicinal herbs for their house..." and she is already making way towards the shoe rack when Jeongguk stands in front of her, holding her shoulders.
"What's wrong, Mom? Is everything okay?" Jeongguk bends slightly to look into his mother's eyes. He can see the gloss in them, the tears at the brim but he knows he can't get a direct answer to them. "You do remember you stopped selling medicinal herbs for personal purposes, right?"
It seems to have caught her off guard because she's scrambling for a reason the next moment, "Yeah but it's a friend, they need it—"
"Why are you crying?"
No answer, just a press of lips to stop tears from falling.
"Is it dad? Is he okay?"
Just a nod. "Some dirt must have gone in my eyes, Jeongguk, I will be okay."
"Don't give me those excuses, mom." Jeongguk squeezes her in his hold. "I have grown enough to know if something is bothering you. You were fine a few minutes before, what happened all of a sudden?"
His mother shakes her head, rubbing the back of his hands that were placed on her shoulders. "It's nothing, really, son, just get ready for your office. I have feeded Bam..."
"Did Minhee say something?" Jeongguk says, eyes closely observing every movement of hers. "I saw you standing before her door when I got out of the shower, did she?"
Mrs Jeon really wants to shake her head at that. Minhee didn't say anything, logically, it was she who overheard it. The words weren't meant for her to be heard but she did, it was her mistake in the first place anyway. But maybe she forgets that her son takes contemplation and hesitation as a yes to questions because the next moment, he is pulling her out of the house.
"I am going to drop you home, you can give your medicinal herbs to your friend but," he pauses, looking back at her, "You'll tell me everything and don't even think of lying or hiding anything, mom."
"You won't do anything to her."
Jeongguk pokes his cheek with his tongue, "I don't and I won't. I promise."
...
Despite the best attempts of Mrs Jeon telling the situation very subtly, calming Jeongguk down before he drives back home— his anger rises as soon as he gets on the elevator to his penthouse. It worsens when he sees Minhee sitting lazily on the couch, dressed in her formal work clothing as well.
"How dare you." Jeongguk grits his teeth, walking inside and standing before her. Minhee looks up, slightly confused but doesn't stand up. "What is it now?"
"Don't act completely clueless, Yoon Minhee! You dare to disrespect my mother in my own house and then act all innocent, what a fucking liar you are!"
Minhee scoffs, finally standing up. She has to strain her neck to look up at him. "Me? Disrespect your mother? When did I do that?"
"Just because your mother betrayed you, doesn't mean you go around insulting others' moms as well. I swear to god, Minhee— I warned you countless times to keep your shit away from me and my family—"
"Just fucking shut up!" Minhee screams, stepping forward. Jeongguk, on instinct, steps back, hissing because it might seem like he's giving into her. "I don't even understand what shit are you talking about so can you please get lost and—"
Jeongguk chuckles, it's so bitter that it makes goosebumps trickle-down Minhee's skin. "Of course, you don't know, you're so clueless all the time. All the fucking time that you don't even realise that your own mom betrayed you just right under your nose."
"Jeongguk!"
"What Jeongguk?" He says, voice louder than hers. "You think you deserve everything you have, huh? The money, the power, that position you are so cocky about? Guess what, no fucking no."
Minhee steps closer again, this time Jeongguk doesn't step back, which he instantly deems as a mistake because her lavender scent is strong up close. "Yeah? I don't? But guess what, Jeongguk? I fucking have it and you don't. You can't even reach where I stand, not before you kill me right here and get my thumbprint in those property papers you have in your office."
Jeongguk stills. Minhee momentarily panics at the slip of information.
Jeongguk doesn't understand if his nerves calm down at the new information or they are so buzzed that he can't even feel them. "You went through my office..." he simply says.
"I didn't mean to—"
"I fucking told you that my office was off-limits then why?" He yells, losing every ounce of control he had left. Bam seems to have noticed his rage because he is quick to whine and get inside his kennel.
"Bam just needed his leash," Minhee explains, "It was nowhere to be seen and then I remembered you taking it in your office. I just saw that doc by mistake."
"You shouldn't have gone!"
Minhee rolls her eyes. Jeongguk passes a hand through his hair.
"I don't even get why you're the mad one here, Jeongguk. I should be fucking pissed here because that property, those papers— everything belongs to me! Me!"
Jeongguk chuckles, "Oh, really? Fucking earn it then." he scoffs and then grits his teeth, "You couldn't even save your own company, deceived your customers—"
"Wait—" Minhee holds her palm up as she takes a moment to breathe."You know..."
Jeongguk's always been the curious boy, even before he knew what the meaning of 'knowing too much' was.
"About your incompetency? Yes. About why you married me? Fucking yes." Jeongguk steps closer, peering down at Minhee who looks too shocked. "You're so full of yourself, Yoon Minhee— just get out of your shitty head and look where you actually stand."
"You're so fucking wrong, Jeongguk. You can't be right all the time."
They don't realise how close they are until they are breathless, chest to chest, eyes glancing back and forth at each other's eyes and lips. It becomes silent all of a sudden, so much that all they can hear is each other's breathing that calms down with every second.
Jungkook can hear the blood thrumming in his ears, can hear his heart pounding against his chest— the air is denser now, laced with heat.
"I want you to kiss you so bad..." Minhee whispers.
"Yeah?" Jeongguk breathes out.
It's too fast, too hot and heavy; and Minhee is drowning it. The desire hangs low in the air, clouding all her senses.
No second thought passes through their minds when Jeongguk leans down enough to crash their lips together, Minhee meeting him midway. He slips his hand around Minhee's waist to pull her close. She gasps, hands automatically taking refuge around his neck and pulling him close— making Jeongguk hum in the kiss.
He must be losing his mind.
Minhee's fingers skim through Jeongguk's shoulders, to his hair. She tugs on it slightly and Jeongguk groans, letting himself get pushed to the wall behind. Minhee tip-toes slightly— wanting more and more, not satisfied with the way Jeongguk is so firm yet delicate under her touch, as if he's not hastily kissing her. She wants more, wants Jeongguk to touch her bare skin but he doesn't.
They pull apart to catch their breaths, chest heaving as they refuse to look away. Jeongguk is flushed to the core, he looks beautiful like that. Minhee would want to see him this way again, remembers how pliant he becomes with her sometimes, he's a born pleaser. His guards are down, he's letting her take the reins and Minhee wants to know how much it takes for him to break under her command. How much more red he can get.
She pulls his tie, but there's no smirk on her face— only the want of making Jeongguk touch her. Jeongguk glances at her through his eyelashes, before she is leading him towards the couch. She pushes him down, making his body bounce as he is forced to sit but before she could straddle him, he stops her— placing a hand on her waist.
"I should feed Bam..."
The words disappoint her, but she nods before stepping back and establishing some space in between. She nods again, as if trying to convince herself that this is okay, it's normal. Taking the car keys and phone from the table, she walks out of the house, dejected. Jeongguk watches every movement of hers, knowing how she feels about his reaction— he probably should have handled it better.
He's an asshole, so stupid to give into his desires.
He realises that it's these desires that have started haunting him, which will make him look back and realise that Yoon Minhee is the definition of knowing too much is inherently bad.
