TEMPORARY ASSISTANT. . .

- - -

"Hmmm?"

Yashiro backed away slowly as Tsukasa floated closer and closer to her face, a sadistic glimmer in his eyes accompanied by his infamous Cheshire cat grin.

Oh, Yashiro knows that grin too well. His twin brother would wear it all the time.

But she got a feeling that Tsukasa's mischievous smile was on a whole new level of threatening. Because beneath that smirk, it could be a warning.

Yugi Tsukasa?

He's the complete opposite of Hanako.

He was like a painful resemblance of death itself. He is unpredictable. Capricious, as Sakura liked to call him. Yashiro admits that he's harder to read than Hanako.

Tsukasa is the same ghost who killed a mystery so easily. As if it were nothing to him. And maybe it is.

Every action he takes, each word he says, it can be scripted, his whole self can be a facade he'd wear to his advantage. To manipulate people. But he can also be genuine.

Yashiro admits that Tsukasa is interesting. She yearned for answers about the boy, she wishes to get to know him better, for her to be close, to have answers why Hanako seemed to be afraid and traumatized around him. Yet that doesn't mean she should be careless around Tsukasa.

Her back hit the wall, a nerve-wracking reminder that she has nowhere to go. Nowhere to run to. She's trapped under the gaze of a predator. Yashiro saw Tsukasa's stare go sharper, and snap.

"Why are you scared of me?" Tsukasa asked with a childish tone, but Yashiro knew better when it came to apparitions like him. "Aren't you already used to someone like me? You're his assistant, right?"

Yashiro carefully shook her head, staring right back at him. "I'm- I'm not scared of you." Yes, but that stutter said otherwise. "I'm just nervous because you're getting too. . .too close for comfort."

Tsukasa glanced at their feet, probably to measure their distance. Their feets were touching. He looked at Yashiro again, with his head tilted. "I'm not that close. I don't get why you're so nervous." Tsukasa leaned closer and almost flinched when Yashiro made a various sounds of choking.

"Oh, I get it now!" He giggled, the same amount of excitement when he sees his twin brother. "You're nervous around boys!" Tsukasa grinned, amused.

Boys who don't understand personal space like you, Yashiro wanted to say, but she was smart and kept her mouth shut.

Yashiro huffed. Is everything a game for him? He acts like everything is just a one big game for him. And he's winning.

"Why aren't you with Nanamine-senpai instead? She's your own assistant," Yashiro asked him.

Tsukasa shrugged and placed a finger on his chin. "I don't know. She said she finds me annoying and told me to go away because she was reading a book. So I roamed around and, luckily, I found you!"

"Why's that?" Yashiro was finally able to breathe when Tsukasa stepped back to think.

"Because I find you interesting. You're very special, you know." Tsukasa then grabbed her wrist and gently latched herself off of the wall. He began to lead her somewhere. "So I'm going to borrow you for a while. I don't think Amane will mind. Come on."

Yashiro had to run a bit because Tsukasa was floating, and his pace was faster than hers. "Borrow me?"

Tsukasa twirled around and pressed a finger on her nose. He smirked. "As for today, you're going to be my assistant, okay?"

Yashiro didn't think it was either a good or bad thing. But then again, it's not like she has a choice either. So she found herself trailing after the ghost.
