NEKO TWINS. . .

— SLIGHT MANGA SPOILERS WARNING!

- - -

"Alright, now all I need to do is meet up with Hanako-kun, clean the toilets real quick, and then I will finally get my well deserved rest!"

There's one thing Yashiro is feeling right now, and that is tired — extremely tired.

School had been stressful for her because of piled up projects and presentations, and yet somehow, she still managed to get through the day with beaming positivity; however, she did consider the pros and cons of pretending to pass out during math class. The pros outweighed the cons, if you were wondering.

It didn't help that she was a part-time assistant of a cheeky, perverted ghost, too. Stress was piling up one by one.

Yashiro just wanted to go home already.

She sauntered over to the old building's third floor girls' bathroom — better known as the boundary of the seventh mystery. Yashiro's legs almost gave up from the exhaustion she felt. She's been feeling it since Monday. And it's Thursday.

She hastily opened the door and was genuinely surprised to be greeted with an empty bathroom.

Yashiro looked around, checking each stall, inside and outside of the girls' bathroom, heck, even the sink. But no sign of Hanako anywhere.

She swore she heard the mewl of a cat, though. But it was probably her imagination.

"What the. . ."

Yashiro blinked. Right before her very eyes, stood Hanako and Tsukasa, smiling at her widely, their fangs showing (Tsukasa's fangs got sharper, though).

But it wasn't just Hanako and Tsukasa.

It was Hanako and Tsukasa with cat ears and a tail.

Yashiro blinked.

Then she blinked again.

Then she squinted so hard that you won't be able to tell the difference between an elder lady reading something from afar without her glasses or a squinting Yashiro.

Yashiro wanted to cry. "Maybe I didn't sleep properly."

"Yashiro!" Hanako exclaimed.

Yashiro pretended she didn't hear anything and walked away from them, heading towards the classroom. The two brothers looked at each other silently, before floating towards Yashiro, trailing after her.

You can never get rid of the Yugi twins. Maybe it's their clinginess.

Especially when you're bound to one.

"Whoa, Nene-chan, what happened to you?" Aoi asked, placing a gentle hand on her forehead to check her temperature.

Yashiro sighed, exasperated, and said, "sorry, Aoi-chan. I'm just—" she felt a tug on her skirt. Yashiro whipped her head around and almost gasped at the sight of Hanako and Tsukasa floating casually behind her, mischievous grins etched on their faces.

"Nene-chan?"

Yashiro snapped out of her stare and turned back to Aoi. "Ah, sorry. I just thought I saw something. . .weird," she said through gritted teeth.

Aoi didn't seem to believe her, but thankfully left her alone.

Yashiro, fully knowing that the twins are curiously watching each step she makes, trudged over to a certain classmate of hers — it would've been adorable, if it wasn't for Yashiro being in a bad mood.

"Akane-kun, can you help me with. . .this?" Yashiro begged, pointing at the two boys behind her, who was busy playing with her hair to keep themselves entertained.

Akane, confused, glanced behind Yashiro. "I'm sorry, what?"

Yashiro furiously pointed at her eyes. Akane understood immediately.

The redhead removed his glasses. He then stared blankly at the two ghosts. He opened his mouth, then closed it again — he seemed to be speechless. "Ah. . ." was all he said. "Well, that's unfortunate."

Yashiro wailed. "Akane-kun! You're no help at all!"

Akane shrugged. "It's not like I can do anything. I stop time, not return furries back to normal. Sorry, I meant hybrids. This never really happened before so I don't know what caused it — Yashiro-san Tsukasa just munched on your hair — but I assure you that they'll return back eventually."

Yashiro yelped and withdrew her hair strand away from Tsukasa. She shot him a glare, causing the younger twin's ears to deflate. Hanako gave his twin's head a light pat.

"Thought, it would be nice if that happened to Ao-chan," Akane gushed. "She would look so cute! I've always found cats cute. Except for those two, though. Don't look at me like that."

Yashiro, Hanako, and Tsukasa looked away from Akane.

"Fine. Thanks, Akane-kun," Yashiro quipped, crossing her arms with an indignant huff.

She walked over to her seat as soon as the teacher entered the room.

Yashiro couldn't handle it anymore.

Not even an hour later and Hanako and Tsukasa were looking for ways to annoy Yashiro — not that she isn't already, though.

"Yashiro, Yashiro," Hanako nagged, poking Yashiro's cheek. "Yashiro, look at me. Look at me please."

Tsukasa shoved Amane face away with his hand. "No, no, me! Me!" His voice is twice as annoying.

Yashiro stared at both them blankly, watching the way they simultaneously lit up, their tails wagging behind them. She looked away, trying to hide the flush on her cheeks.

Okay, she admitted, they are really adorable.

"Come on," Hanako whined, placing his chin on the Yashiro's palm that rested on the table. "Do you hate us?"

"Why did you two turn into cats?" She asked quietly, curiously.

"I don't know." Hanako shrugged and puffed his cheeks. "I just saw a plate of donuts on top of the sink. It was warm. And freshly made, I think. It would've been a waste!"

Tsukasa raised his hand. "I was visiting Amane then he shared with me the donut! Then we passed out and woke up like this." He then scratched his head, his hat falling off. "I'm itchy. Can you scratch my head?"

"You two are absolutely stupid, you know that? Who in their right mind would eat donuts left alone? Let alone in a bathroom!?" Yashiro scolded.

"Yashiro-san," the teacher called out. "Do you have something to share with us?"

Yashiro blushed in embarrassment. "Ah, no, sir. I'm sorry."

Hanako and Tsukasa hissed at the teacher.

Geez, they're even turning into cats now. Are they gonna stay like this forever? Yashiro doesn't think she can handle it; it'd be too much. Maybe Sakura is right: they are cats. Touch-starved, attention-thirsty cats, to be exact. What a perfect combination.

Next thing she knows they'll start kicking her stuff off her table. Like a real cat does. They do it for absolutely no reason — Yashiro wonders if turning into dogs would've been better and safer. But then she began to imagine the chaos the twins would create and decided that maybe she shouldn't wish for that instead.

Hanako turned back to Yashiro, smiling. "We'll shut up if you scratch our heads. Easy. A win-win in my book." He took his hat off, already knowing Yashiro's answer.

Yashiro sighed and discreetly placed her each of her hand on the twins' heads, hoping and praying that no one will catch her scratching thin air. She would look like a pervert. She didn't want to freak anyone out.

It was then she realized she felt weight on her lap. Hanako and Tsukasa buried their cheeks on her tigh near her knees, smiles on their faces. Yashiro couldn't help but roll her eyes, unable to hide the smile on her face.
