OBSESSION. . .

"After all. . ."

Hanako has always been a mystery for Yashiro.

Yes, he is a school mystery, but Yashiro saw him as an unfinished puzzle — still a lot of missing pieces that she struggles to find. Hanako himself is a mystery, he's the embodiment of something you can't just figure out. His past life, the reason why he died. . .

And yet, Yashiro — deep, deep down — has felt like she already knew him. She's confident enough to perfectly describe his personality, explain the way he acts, and can even weave a whole story about him and capture him perfectly.

Because despite not being able to figure him out, she understands him. And that's enough, (she thinks). It doesn't change the fact that he's dangerous to be with; being friends was already a risky surprise itself.

Yashiro thought that she figured out all of the secrets Hanako has.

Little did Yashiro know, though. Hanako was. . .a little bit more than protective. Possessive might be too strong, but it's somewhere along the lines of that.

Yamabuki Lemon, the classmate of Yashiro; an unfortunate soul, had been partnered up with Hanako's object of affections for a project. It's just a project, right? A school project — nothing could go wrong. Ah, famous last words, indeed.

Poor Lemon boy. He doesn't know what's about to happen.

"Yashiro-san!" Yamabuki shouted, slightly waving his hand. (The hand that isn't holding is phone). He then (kind of) lazily jogged towards her, a stoic expression plastered on his face, as usual.

Yashiro smiled at him politely. "Yamabuki-kun. Is it about the presentation?" She asked.

Yamabuki nodded, scratching the back of his head. Yashiro realized boys do that a lot when they're nervous. "Ah, yeah. When can we meet up or something? 'Cause I'm not really free during lunch," he told her.

Yashiro's face paled, suddenly feeling anxious. Hanako is going to be around her, and Yashiro knows from experience that he wasn't fond of other students stealing her time — it didn't always end well.

"A-Ah," Yashiro sputtered. "Is that so? Well, I guess we can meet up. . .after school." She had to force the last part out.

Yamabuki's face brightened. He didn't have a smile, but it was obvious he was delighted with her offer with the way his eyes shone. "Really? That's cool with you?" Yashiro reluctantly nodded. "Great! I'll meet you outside of the classroom door right after the last subject, 'kay?"

When Yamabuki walked away, Yashiro slumped and groaned, burying her face on her hands.

"Yashiro." Hanako blinked, pleasantly surprised at Yashiro's unexpected visit. "You're early. I don't think the last subject is finished yet."

Yashiro shook her head. "It isn't. I excused myself to the bathroom so I could escape."

The girl then realized that Hanako was staring outside of the window before she came in, was he pondering over something? Either way, he looked really focused.

Hanako smirked at her, amused. "Oh? You skipped classes for me? Oh, Yashiro you rebel daikon yo—"

Yashiro shot him a glare, not allowing him to finish his sentence. "Technically, I am visiting the bathroom. It's not a lie. It's not like I told the teacher I was going to pee."

Hanako giggled. "Ooh. Sneaky."

When Hanako walked over to her, she felt herself relax. It was funny, to be honest: Yashiro never expected to be feeling safe and comfortable over a ghost. A ghost with a knife. A butter knife? Hanako had scolded her and told her it was most definitely not a butter knife!

Still, she felt safe. Butter knife or not.

"Anyway, Hanako-kun, I have news. I already texted my mom that I might go home late. She didn't reply yet, but knowing her, she'll say yes if it's for school," Yashiro began. "So, do you mind if—"

"Of course I mind."

Yashiro grimaced. "Hanako-kun, I didn't even say anything yet—"

"I said I do mind," Hanako grunted, crossing his arms in disapproval.

"You haven't even heard what I wanted to—"

Hanako waved his hand dismissively. "Well, if you're going to be skipping your time with me, then I do, in fact, mind. I mind it a lot."

"Oh." Yashiro's expression fell. "Well, Hanako-kun. It's just Yamabuki-kun. I know I didn't have the chance to hang out with you this week, but I guess you can't refuse in this one."

Yashiro thought she can read Hanako easily, so why was he so hard to understand now?

Hanako knows who Yamabuki is. Hanako has seen the longing glances Yamabuki threw at Yashiro. He hates him.

"And why not?" Hanako demanded. "Fine. I'll come with you then." If he can't refuse, might as well make sure that Lemon boy doesn't do anything.

Yashiro didn't really understand it when Hanako acted like this. He gets so jealous easily. Yashiro actually found it adorable, but she can't ignore the fear that she felt along with it.

Hanako had been. . . excessively clingy in the past few weeks. He's been looking for ways to be with her, throwing tantrums when he isn't allowed to see her, and always somehow hugging her in some way. Whether it's her waist, her head, her. . .legs.

Was he always like this? Yashiro thought to herself. Maybe he really is just touch-starved and misses me. It is kind of my fault, he must've felt like I was avoiding him.

Yeah, that has be it.

Yashiro nodded. "Alright, you can come with me."

"Of course I can! After all. . . you're my assistant, right?" Hanako grinned at her. Yashiro smiled back, oblivious of his intentions. Hanako loves that smile; loves the way it curves upwards, but also has a lace of fear to it. He would kill for that smile.

Oh, you naive girl.

You have no idea of what's about to come to you, huh?
