JUST YOU AND ME: ALWAYS. . .

"And then if I could see you on the last day of my life

I'm sure, even on the last day of my life, that I'd sing of love
Because you'd tell me none of it, none of it was in vain

Ah, I still can't believe that on the last day of my life, you won't be here."

It's becoming further and further,

"Hanako-kun," Yashiro said with a smile, slowly striding over to the ghost with unruly dark hair, deep in thought. Her hair fluttered along the blow of the wind, she quickly placed a stray piece of hair behind her ear.

Hanako didn't turn around. He didn't need to. There was no one else in the world except for Yashiro who would visit him at a time like this — not to mention Hanako already knew her voice by heart.

"Yashiro," Hanako said, yet his eyes were glued on the bright, sun that shone above them, brightening up their small figures. He leaned on the railings, like he always does, but his shoulders were tense.

Yashiro hummed and let her head rest on Hanako's shoulder, a sign they both knew that said I'm here, Hanako has been under the weather lately so it had become a habit for Yashiro to show affection because it never fails to make the boy smile. He relaxed. . .

But today, his lips didn't move an inch.

Yashiro didn't pull away, though. She stood still, fully knowing Hanako is basking in her warmth anyway. No one — not even them — knew what kind of friendship/relationship they have. But neither of them cared. As long as they're content, then nothing will change.

"I have a bad feeling."

Yashiro's eyebrows furrowed, but she quickly hid it away. "About what?" She asked softly, playing with her own hair.

Then finally, Hanako turned to her. He was frowning, too. Tears were starting to gather in his eyes. Yashiro didn't know what to do. "I'm scared of losing you, Yashiro. It's been over a year. I don't know what to do — I feel useless! Why can't I just—"

Yashiro placed her hands on Hanako's cheeks. "Hanako-kun, calm down! We've talked about this before, right?" Then a smile blossomed on her lips, so pure and sincere Hanako almost bawled right then and there. "It's going to happen. So let's just enjoy it while we can."

But surprisingly, I don't really care right now

They ended up walking over to the swing set that they only visited once, and that was during the Fake World. Yashiro vividly remembered each second of that day — the sun setting in front of them, laughter filling the place, eyes bright, bodies touching.

Hanako (or Amane) was the one who pushed her in the swing set, but this time, Yashiro insisted that he'd be the one who would sit down. Ironically enough, it was Hanako who needed comfort. But that's because Yashiro got over the fear of her clock ticking closer to its end.

It's inevitable, anyway.

You can't change your destiny.

Hanako grabbed on the two sides of the swing, head tilted so that he can stare at Yashiro. The said girl grinned down at him, then started to lightly push.

"You can talk about it," Yashiro spoke after a few moments of silence.

In front of them, the sun slowly, but surely, descended, the colors shifting into a pretty hue of orange and pink, painting over the sky as if it's a masterpiece in the hands of a painter. Yashiro had never felt happier, no matter how insane that sounds.

Because in this universe,

"Why did it have to be you?" Hanako muttered, his grip tightening. Yashiro refrained from rolling her eyes. His muscles tensed again.

Yashiro paused from pushing on his back and instead placed her hands on his shoulders, fingers crawling and lightly pushing on the skin. "Are you saying you wished it would've been someone else?" She asked.

Hanako sputtered. "N-No! I don't mean that. I'm just saying that I— I would've— I could've done something." He faltered. "I should've done something right from the start."

Yashiro's hand moved from his shoulders then on his forehead, pressing and massaging away the wrinkles that grew on his face. Hanako visibly relaxed at her touch. "I've accepted it, Hanako-kun. Even if there's something that anyone could've done, I already accepted my death."

Hanako bit his lip upon the mention of death. "That's what bothers me. Why did you accept it just like that? Do you not care about your life?" And though the question hurt Yashiro a bit (because she wanted nothing more than to live and grow old with her friends, family — with Hanako), she knew he didn't mean it that way.

"Don't say that, Hanako-kun," Yashiro told him in a scolding manner. "Because you know the answer to that more than anyone else." Before Hanako could apologize, Yashiro interrupted him, "to be honest, I feel better that it turned out this way."

Hanako's hand held Yashiro's wrist, stopping her from her actions (Yashiro almost forgot that she was massaging him). He turned to her, bewildered. "What?" He demanded.

Yashiro thought he looked ethereal with the way the rising moon made his figure glow, his eyes sparkle. "I'm glad it was me, and not someone else. I want everyone to be happy."

"No one is happy with you passing away," Hanako hissed.

"But I am," Yashiro told him. "I'm happy. I'm also happy with what'll happen to us. You know why?" Hanako slowly shook his head. "Because I know that we'll meet each other again."

"What. . ?"

"You told me, right?" Yashiro smiled, before she stared up at the golden moon that seemed to shine even more than usual. Was that a sign? "We're bound together. In the end—" she pressed her forehead on Hanako's forehead since his head was thrown back a bit— "it's just you and me. Always. We'll see each other again."

Then on the next day, as Hanako walked alone on the path Yashiro and him used to take, he saw a star so close to the moon, almost glimmering as bright at it. Hanako smiled, she's watching him. At least Yashiro is up there, happier. He can't wait for the time where they'll see each other again like she promised.

On this vast planet

I was able to meet you
