MAKE A DEAL WITH THE CAT. . .
— ALTERNATE UNIVERSE !!
— omg can i be real here ? idk what i did
With a swish of her tail, Yashiro swiftly swam past a school of fishes, staring at her in awe. She sliced through the bright blue waters of the glittering ocean that reflected off the sunset haze from above. With a strong tail, Yashiro easily cut through, flashing like a speed of light — that odd tail of hers really helped at times.
The Far Shore.
The place no fish would ever want to go to — at least, no fish who has never witnessed the beauty of it. Yashiro has caught a glimpse of it once, and she couldn't just stop. Like an addiction. And now she's stuck in this endless loop: visiting the far shore again and again — she basically lives there now.
And she doesn't mind the sound of that.
Yashiro instantly relaxed. The water is always nice and perfectly cool in the Far Shore. The Near Shore had too many fishes and more sea creatures roaming and swimming in it, so it was getting a bit too overwhelming and too warm.
The sun now fully set, the moon reigned above them — above the humans, the sea critters, and any living being — its glow pleasing to the eyes of many. It's a sight Yashiro can never get tired of. It's the reason why Yashiro is always hanging around the Far Shore, where the waters are too deep and it'd be too late to go back if ever you'd wander too far into it. It's the place where it stinks of danger, and thrilled Yashiro's little fins.
Yashiro heard a call of a cat ( meow, meow, meow all over and no one understands ) and whirled around, only to see a cat above the waters, hanging on top of a rock that seemed to go on deep forever. Yashiro started to slowly shimmy away, unnerved of the cat's glowing eyes and dark skin ( dark like a black hole, it sucks and sucks and there's no way out ) but Yashiro couldn't get too far away.
What was a cat doing in the middle of the sea!?
With just a flick of its tail, yellow smoke began to surround the cat, and turned into this grinning, young boy, dressed in fancy black colors that seem to have come from the rich; lined with red like the weird, cat-shaped cat shape earring that he had that were colored red on one, and green on the other.
Such odd clothes, Yashiro thought. And also so familiar. Do I know him from somewhere?
The boy leaned in, suddenly, giving Yashiro the view of his sharp, pointy fangs and still cat-like, peering eyes. He raised a finger and then before Yashiro could even blink, his red earring turned into a will-o'-wisp only mythical creatures are known to have. Flabbergasted, Yashiro watched in awe as the hakujodai obediently floated right next to his head ( a human head — get back in track, Yashiro! ) and awaited for his command.
He was speaking, the boy. But Yashiro couldn't understand a single word he uttered out. There was a language barrier here.
The golden-eyed boy pointed his finger at Yashiro, his hakujodai wordlessly following by heading straight to Yashiro — catching her off guard — and twirling around her body. Her vision became a black for a while. Until she heard a voice that awoke her from her trance.
"—I knew something was up with you, always hanging around in the far shore," he said as he gently wrapped his hand around her wrist and pulled her up on the surface of the steep rock. "My name is Hanako."
Yashiro blinked, realizing that she finally understood each word the boy said and she was no longer staring up at this stranger, instead, is eye-level with him. Feeling water tickle her toes, Yashiro looked down and gasped at the sight of legs and waist, and hips and hands — oh god the hands! These complex hands that you need to control each finger. ( How does this even work? Yashiro pondered to herself, staring at her hands with curiosity ).
Draped in sheets of cream and teal color, Yashiro was now a human.
She's seen these creatures ( the highest above all animals, the kind that walks on two legs and has created and started a whole new world with two hands ), though, she wondered what was the purpose of turning her into one?
Even human, Hanako stared at her with a predatory look. Was it a cat's instinct? It scared Yashiro. This cat right in front of her has magic. If that isn't alarming then Yashiro doesn't know what is.
"You know, you're interesting," Hanako told her, plopping his foot on the rock and skillfully standing up in one try without stumbling, even if the surface was steep. "Every living being in this world knows that the Far Shore is a place you shouldn't visit when you want to live a peaceful life. This is unsafe. You hear me?"
Yashiro stared him, unblinking.
Hanako sighed, letting out an exasperated laugh. "Alright, then."
"But. . ." Yashiro trailed off, finding it odd that her voice is different as a human: deeper and smoother. It's a change Yashiro doesn't mind. "But I've been here for ages and never had I encountered danger."
A glint passed by Hanako's eyes. "That's what you think." Then he puffed his chest, pride evident on his crescent-shaped eyes. "I was watching over you, Yashiro—" she didn't ask how he knows her name— "and I protected you from each apparition that tried to get a hold of you. And of course, they stayed back. They're afraid of me." Yashiro's face turned black. "I know, I know. May not seem like it, but I'm the boss around here."
"So, you're like my guardian angel?" Hopeful, Yashiro peered up at Hanako with sparkling eyes, a smile etched on her lips. Hanako couldn't help but smile back, but he scoffed too.
"Guardian devil, more like." Hanako lowly whistled. "The moon's so bright tonight. Perhaps it's a sign?" He glanced at Yashiro a bit, smirking, before looking back.
Yashiro huffed and crossed her arms, the cloth that lazily swaddled her body shifting, exposing bits of her skin. "Did you turn me into a human just to lecture me and brag about being my knight in shining armor?"
"'course not, sweetheart," he crooned. "I like creatures like you: unafraid to risk their lives just to see the beauty of things." Yashiro felt a bit of proud of herself. "So, how about we make a deal?"
"A deal with the devil," Yashiro whispered, eliciting a chuckle from the ravenette. "Am I going to sell my soul to you or something?"
Hanako shrugged. "Something like that. I can turn you into a human every night, in exchange of you being my assistant. So—" he offered his hand— "do we a have a deal?"
Yashiro, the most admired fish for her fish beauty, has a lot of suitors, has been asked to make a deal with Lucifer reborn as a cat. Will she seriously accept such a fatal deal? Consequences outweighed everything here; she could be open to danger every night.
Yes.
Yes, she will definitely accept the deal. With a shake of a hand, her fate was sealed.
