YOUR NUMBER ONE FAN. . .
"And that's because I wanna be your favorite boy,
I wanna be the one that makes your day,
The one you think about as you lie awake,
I can't wait to be your number one
I'll be your biggest fan and you'll be mine."

"Yashiro-san! I'm such a big fan of you!" A nameless student blurted, holding a bouquet of assorted flowers close to his chest. He all but shoved the flowers on Yashiro's face, a bright red blush on his own. "T-Thank you, goodbye!" And then he took off like a man on a mission.
Yashiro blinked. "Uh— wait!" But the boy was already gone from her sight. Yashiro looked down on the bouquet in confusion. "What the. . ?"
To say Yashiro was flustered must be an understatement of the century, because she is dumbfounded as heck. As soon as she stepped foot on the school hallway, the atmosphere shifted (Yashiro couldn't really understand why); whispers floated around the air, stares were placed on her, and now a boy just gave her a bouquet. A really pretty bouquet.
Oh, she thought, her face flushing, that was a second year, right?
She might want to keep away the bouquet, lest she'd lose it. This is her first time receiving a bouquet from anyone. It is now a family heirloom — she'll store it away to brag to her grand children. Somehow. If that's even possible.
Okay, it may not be the first flower she was gifted, though. No, that title belongs to her best friend since diapers: Yugi Amane.
They were 5 at that time. Amane and Tsukasa were competing for Yashiro's "affection and attention", but Amane easily won that round because Amane gave her a makeshift bouquet of flowers and a flower crown. . .
And Tsukasa gave her a hand full of weed. Proudly, even.
Good times, indeed.
But now's not the time to dwell on that! Yashiro is suddenly getting the attention of the whole school and she must figure out why! It might be an embarrassing thing, so she needs to figure it out quickly.
She paused when she saw Aoi daintily running towards her, phone in hand. "Nene-chan, Nene-chan!" She chanted. "Nene-chan, did you see?"
"Aoi?"
"Your mini concert blew up! You're literally all over the internet! Right now, you're placed #3 on the charts!" Aoi gushed. "I can see it now, Nene-chan. You're going to be given a contract, you're going to be a famous singer on tour! Lots of people, fans. I want to be your manager—!"
"Aoi, calm down." Yashiro laughed but beamed anyway. "No way. Let me see, please."
Amane had recorded a video of Yashiro singing a special song she wrote called Tiny Light*. It was supposed to be nothing special, just a fun little song that they can look back to and smile at — but seeing the 3 million views and all of the supportive comments, it feels like it's something more.
"Whoa," Yashiro breathed out, a shaky smile creeping up her face. "That's a lot of views."
"You deserve it! I knew that your angelic voice had amazing potential!" Aoi cried, a huge smile on her face. She's so supportive and sweet. "I feel like I'm standing next to a celebrity right now."
Yashiro giggled, blushing. "Ah, that's an exaggeration."
"Nene!"
Yashiro felt herself get tackled into a tight hug — the intimate kind of hug. Yashiro knew who it was immediately; no other person has the smell of donuts than—
"Amane-kun!" Yashiro happily said, hugging the boy back. She had always loved his comforting warmth so cuddles were a must!
Amane pulled away, his wide grin still etched on his face. "I am so happy for you! Your song blew up, and now I hear it everywhere!"
"I'm still here, guys," Aoi sadly muttered to herself, phone still in her hand.
Yashiro laughed. "I know! You should be proud, too, Amane-kun, you helped me make—"
"Yashiro-san!"
Amane had to step back because of an aggressive shove of flowers and chocolates alike. Yashiro squeaked and tried to hold them all, but eventually dropped a couple of gifts. She looked up to see a crowd of boys surrounding her and trying to hand her more gifts.
Overwhelmed, Yashiro is overwhelmed.
Aoi tried to help by the picking some stuff up, as Amane tried to tell them to back away, but the boys were persistent.
"Oh, wow, uhm." Yashiro nervously chuckled at the sight of love letters. "Is it Valentine's day or something? Haha."
"Yashiro-san! Your song is beautiful! Have this box of chocolates, please!"
"I'm a big fan, Yashiro-san!"
"Yashiro-san, do you want to go out with me?"
"Yashiro-san, you're so pretty!"
Yashiro's brows were now furrowed, not pleased with the kind of attention she was getting. She used to like a harem, but not when they are causing trouble for others.
"One at a time, please!" Aoi told them.
"Aoi-chan! You're as cute as ever!"
"Aoi-san, how does it feel like to be friends with Yashiro-san?"
"Back off!" Amane barked. "Are you an interviewer or something? You're doing a bad job of it."
"Nene-chan, let's just—" Aoi tugged on Yashiro's sleeve— "leave."
Yashiro looked at Amane, and the boy nodded in reply. Aoi pulled on Yashiro's wrist as they ran away from the increasing crowd of boys who came to fan over Yashiro and Aoi.
Once they were out of sight, all of the boys stared at Amane with a swirl of emotions: anger, jealousy, and confusion, maybe. Or all three at the same time.
"What's your problem?" One of the boys asked.
"You were making Ne— Yashiro uncomfortable, that's my problem," Amane coolly replied, his arms crossed on his chest.
Despite the fact that the stranger was a good, double-digit inches taller than Amane, the golden-eyed boy eyed him with the same amount of confidence. Amane is a bit scary sometimes.
"Just because Yashiro is getting attention in the internet doesn't mean she's not a first-year, a student like all of you, she's not a celebrity. It would be nice if you'd at least respect her personal space. Even the girls who are head-over-heels for Minamoto Teru act better than all of you," Amane spat.
One of the boys seemed to want to retort something, but kept his mouth shut when Amane shot him a look.
"You can give her gifts — of course you can. But maybe you could do it in a nicer way where she doesn't get overwhelmed. You can kiss the ground she walks on, for all I care, just don't stand in front of her." Amane turned away. "Sorry if I'm too harsh, but I'm just very protective. Just treat her the same please. I know some of you are just using her, anyway."
He walked away without any other word.

"Amane-kun, are you okay? You seem very down," Yashiro said, patting Amane's hair. They were seated on Yashiro's living room, the TV playing, but neither of them were watching.
"I'm just worried, that's all."
"Worried? I promise I won't let the fame get to my head! I will always remember I'm a radish singing so I won't get too conceited no matter how much that—"
"What? No." Amane chuckled. "I was just worried over all the attention you were getting."
"Worried. . ." Yashiro parroted. "Then, uh. . .do you want to go down on the basement?" She smiled when Amane nodded weakly.
They trotted over to the basement — hideout, as Amane liked to call it — it was littered with candy wrappers, smelled like fresh flowers, and was filled with music and video equipment. This was where Yashiro recorded her song.
Amane visibly relaxed at the sight of it. He plopped down on one of their bean bags and let out a long sigh.
Yashiro followed him after. "Wanna watch the video?" She turned on the television and turned off the light, then, she also jumped and relaxed on top of the bean bag.
"Yes, please."
The familiar tune of the piano filled the room, accompanied by the faint sound of the air conditioner. It buzzed.
"If I am able to say "you are so precious"
Will my heart feel lighter?"
"Your song really is nice, you know. You deserve all the attention," Amane spoke after a while, staring up at the glow-in-the-dark stars that were hung on the ceiling.
"Behind the closed door,
I hear a faint voice
I can't even step out,
I am embracing the loneliness"
"I'm glad to hear that," Yashiro said, following his gaze. "I made sure this song will come out great. It's for a very special person."
"Is that so?"
"But the strength to wish with pure emotion
The weakness that I was about to cry
I wouldn't have known it without you
I found my fate in a coincidence
"Of course! It's for you," Yashiro said confidently.
Amane grinned, and stared at Yashiro, his cheeks dusted with red. He poked Yashiro's cheek. "Yeah?"
Yashiro smiled and held his hand. "Yeah."
"By you simply being here, the world has changed."
