PARENT FIGURES. . .

— Hanako getting hurt somehow

Voices filled the empty hallway Yako walked on.

She was just on a daily stroll around the school, walking around, minding her own business. But she couldn't exactly follow the latter because she heard two familiar voices that she can't just ignore — she can't ignore it even if she wanted to.

Her feet guided her to where the voices were coming from, her steps light and gentle despite her heavy outfit. Each step she took, the voices grew louder and louder — she recognized the voice that spoke most, his deep and calming voice stands out even from afar. No one else in the school has a voice like Tsuchigomori's.

Before Yako even knew it, she found herself opening the door of the school's faculty. It's supposed to be empty around this time, but Tsuchigomori pretty much lives in the school anyway. As if hypnotized with the sudden desire to see the purple-eyed man, Yako didn't realize the door had opened until the voices went silent.

Her eyes traveled around the room, sparkling with curiosity and confusion until it landed on a certain boy. A gasp fell from her lips.

"What's going on here?" Yako demanded when she saw Hanako on a chair, bruises on his cheek, and a purple one that was on his arm that's evident on his rolled up sleeves. "What happened?"

Tsuchigomori sighed, placing a palm on his forehead in frustration. "Honorable No. 7 got into a bit of a misunderstanding with a school rumor and hid his bruises from Yashiro and Kou." His eyes glared at Hanako, making the boy cower under his gaze. "And I checked up on him and he's still trying to hide it even while I'm trying to fix him up."

Hanako grumbled. "It doesn't even matter if I get wounded or not! What will happen to me? Die from all these silly bruises? Very funny."

Yako wasted no time marching over to Hanako, tossing his hat aside and studying the bruises on his cheek. It all looked purple and swollen, the edges almost fading to green. It looks like it hurt, and when Hanako winced when she gently touched it, it only confirmed her suspicions. "I know you're not the brightest of the bunch, but don't be that stupid."

Hanako, offended, opened his mouth to protest, but Yako cut him off again. "Are you serious, brat? Why would you even get into a fight with a fellow apparition? Are you that careless and dumb?" Each word she spat out made Hanako pout, slouching on his seat as Yako began to heal him with ointments. "I told you that trouble-making attitude of yours will backfire and you still didn't listen!"

"Sorry, mom," Hanako mocked, rolling his eyes.

Yako purposely rubbed the wet cotton harsher, effectively making Hanako whine and try to escape her grip, but to no avail. "Don't be a whiny brat now, No. 7. To think you're our boss and you'd do something as stupid as hiding your wounds. That will only make it worse, idiot! Yashiro and Kou will get worried even more!"

"Okay, okay!" Hanako whined once Yako finally finished her scolding. Yako finally let go of his face and let him scoot away from her, muttering curses under his breath as he tried his best not to touch the bandages.

Yako twirled around to see Tsuchigomori's amused smirk with raised brows. Yako glowered at him instinctively and said, "what? You have a problem with me, emo spider?"

Tsuchigomori raised his hands in defense. "Nothing. I just didn't know there was such a motherly side in you," Tsuchigomori mused. Hanako huffed at that, not finding this side of Yako pleasing.

Yako rolled her green eyes, crossing her arms, trying to hide her embarrassment. "Woman or not, it's an instinct to help a child in need, okay? So leave me alone."

"I'm not a child!" Hanako protested, but the two ignored him.

"You know, you'd make a good mother," Tsuchigomori said with a shrug. "Look at Honorable No. 7, he looks as good as new. And that scolding did him good. His ego just deflated."

"As it should be," Yako chimed in. Tsuchigomori chuckled.

Hanako popped in their line of vision, on the space between Tsuchigomori and Yako, grinning mischievously. "You know what I think? I think you two would make great parents!" Then before Tsuchigomori or Yako could process his words, he skipped away from the room, his giggles trailing after.

Yako's face exploded into a bright, red blush, hands trembling once she realized what Hanako implied. She turned to see Tsuchigomori's reaction, and was pleasantly surprised to witness the usually collected man lose his composure, cheeks dusted with rose red.

No one spoke for a while.

They awkwardly stood there in silence.

Until Tsuchigomori said, "Hanako's not wrong. I think you'd made a good wife."
