NENE-SENPAI. . !

- - -

Kou is helplessly in love with Yashiro Nene.

Everyone knows that.

Hanako knows that.

Minamoto Teru knows that.

Literally everyone in the whole goddamn world (even if they don't know them) knows that. They'd just glance at the two of them interacting, and in that split second, they can already tell that the boy's admiration is absolutely off the charts.

Of course, everyone with the exception of Yashiro Nene herself.

Kou didn't know what made Yashiro so attractive, but it's not like he's complaining.

The boy has a soft spot for adorable girls, so it was only natural Kou felt drawn to his senpai.

When they first met, Kou was interested in her only for the fact that she was brave enough (and insanely pretty) to stand up for Hanako.

But as time passed by, and as they grew closer, Kou noticed how she was kindhearted and sweet, and that made his feelings grow. Yashiro Nene was the embodiment of an angel. She's insanely pretty, too.

Kou doesn't understand why Yashiro isn't popular with the boys because — in his opinion, please don't kill him — he thinks that Yashiro can easily beat Aoi, her best friend, in terms of cuteness. She's just insanely pretty.

You see, the younger Minamoto just admired his senpai so much that it bloomed into something pretty much everyone was expecting. Feelings.

There was something about Yashiro Nene that would make you explode with fondness and love. She has the ability to melt hearts, and she isn't even aware of it, because she's so insecure of her damn ankles.

Kou doesn't see anything bad about her so-called radish legs. In fact, he actually likes how she stands out more than average (with average ankles) girls. She's special, and she should see that. She's insanely pretty.

And did I mention that Yashiro is insanely pretty? Kou has said it so much — rambled about Yashiro so much — that he can never go through a sentence of talking about Yashiro without praising her beauty.

Teru has heard Kou mention Yashiro so many times that it's been imprinted in his mind that her favorite snack is strawberry-filled rice cakes, her everyday concern is her lack of hope with men, and that she has a habit of playing with the hem of her skirt or her hair when she's nervous or flustered.

Teru doesn't stop Kou, though. He likes this side of his brother, the one who finally takes interest in something (or in this case, someone) aside from exorcism. And he approves of Yashiro, because he knows that the girl can handle Kou — he likes to mentally thank her everytime Kou comes back home with a huge smile.

Things had gone smoothly so far. They had a steady relationship with each other, and both were happy with that.

Until, of course, reality hits Kou with the same force as getting run over a train. Not that he'd know.

Yashiro Nene can be absolutely dense sometimes.

"Eh?" Yokoo gaped, narrowing his eyes on the scene before him, catching Satou's attention. "Kou?"

Satou followed his gaze and his eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Kou," he said.

Kou and Yashiro paused from what they were doing — which was throwing flour at each other as they tried to bake a cake together. They both looked up as if they've been caught robbing a bank or something.

"Oh, hey," Kou greeted them with a wave with his free hand, the hand that isn't slung around Yashiro's shoulders.

He's acting as if he isn't doing something so intimate! Or maybe he doesn't know. With Kou, though? The latter is the only reason.

Yashiro smiled at the two boys, causing the two to flush slightly from her bright smile. Kou didn't miss this, of course.

"I didn't know you were so close to Yashiro-senpai, Kou," Yokoo said, it was a mix between being suggestive, and being genuinely surprised.

As the two entered the room, Satou also spoke up, "yeah. How did you even borrow this room, Kou?" They looked around and just ignored the fact that it was terribly messy.

No, because, messy would be an understatement! It was (borderline) trashed as heck. Messier than Hanako's boundary when the two (Kou and Hanako) bickers and chase each other around — which, on the chasing part, is mostly Kou's job.

Yashiro placed the bag of flour (which is half empty) on the table and twirled a strand of her hair. "Kou-kun asked Tsuchigomori-sensei for permission, so we're fine." She laughed lightly, missing the way Kou's ears turned pink.

He can still never get over the fact that she calls him by his first name now.

Should he also call her by her first name? Would first-name basis use be rude?

Kou stuck his tongue out at his two friends. "We'll clean this up, guys, don't worry. Just go on, didn't you tell me Nii-chan was looking for you two?"

Yokoo and Satou, suddenly alarmed, hastily bid them their goodbyes and ran out of the room.

Yashiro turned to Kou, picking up the bag of flour again. "Minamoto-senpai was looking for Yokoo-kun and Satou-kun?"

Kou nodded and cracked some eggs into a bowl. "Nii-chan asked me if he can meet up with them, but he didn't want to tell me why." He looked back at the mess they made (he's sort of proud of it.) "Anyway, Nene-senpai, can—"

Yashiro gasped and dropped the bag of flour, causing it to make an even worse mess on the floor.

Kou panicked and picked up the bag. "Ah, senpai! You dropped it! We would have a hard time cleaning, and your uniform might get ruined. Do you w—" he looked back up at Yashiro, who was staring at him with wide eyes and flushed cheeks. "Senpai?"

Yashiro gulped and played with the hem of her dress. "You called N— you called me Nene-senpai. . ." she uttered out shyly.

Kou furrowed his brows, trying to retrace his steps, and—

Oh.

Oh.

"Ah!" Kou cried out, about to cry. "I'm sorry, senpai! I didn't realize! I was too distracted and it just slipped—"

Yashiro poked Kou's forehead, making the blond's words die down on his mouth. She grinned up at him, the smile being the rival of the sun itself. "It's okay, I kind of. . .uhm. . .really like it! Because it feels like we're closer friends!"

Yashiro Nene is absolutely dense, like in these situations.

Way to ruin the moment, Yashiro, the girl thought to herself in frustration when she noticed his mood drop.

Kou idly stared at her. "But, uh, Nene-senpai. Would it be bad if I told you that I don't see you as a friend?"

Yashiro's heart dropped, and her mind began to assume things. "Oh. . .I see. . ."

Kou felt her mood turn and he immediately understands why. "Wait, wait, senpai! I didn't mean it that way!"

Yashiro stood silently, a pout on her face. The sight broke Kou's heart, so he did what first came to his mind. What he thought would cheer Yashiro up.

"I meant like I like-like you, Nene-senpai! I have feelings for you!"

And he doesn't regret anything when he saw Yashiro's face bloom bright red.
