"Ao-chan, why won't you and Akane-kun just go out already?"

Aoi seemed startled at the question.

It all started with a harmless conversation (mostly gushing) over Minamoto-senpai, but then Yashiro began to question the bluenette's relationship with her best friend since childhood. Akane Aoi.

"Akane-kun and I. . ?"

Yashiro nodded vigorously, eyes narrowed on the redhead who was discreetly staring at Aoi. "Yeah! I mean, it's pretty obvious to everyone he loves you."

Aoi nodded. "Of course I do. Akane-kun always proclaims his love for me." She smiled to herself.

She was referring to Akane's random outbursts of his love that always occured in the places you least expected, or expected the most. Akane was a funny guy.

"You don't think Akane-kun's feelings for you is a joke, right?" Yashiro asked suddenly, seeing the way Aoi's face fall a bit.

"What?"

Yashiro flushed. "No, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to offend you! I just meant, like, you do know that his love for you is real. . ? It seems like some sort of joke to the others, but I was hoping you'd at least take his feelings seriously."

Aoi nodded in understanding. "Ah, yeah." Her eyes drifted to Akane, who was busy talking to Yamabuki, complaining about Teru to him. Aoi's lips formed into a fond smile.

"Ao-chan?"

"Nene-chan, what do you think of Akane-kun and I?" Aoi asked, placing her chin on her hands that rested on the table, causing her cheeks to puff adorably.

Of course, this didn't went unnoticed by a certain redhead. He rose a brow.

Yashiro glared at him momentarily, sort of a warning as to not listen in, before she glanced back at Aoi. "I think you guys look adorable together! I mean it's pretty weird how he has an unhealthy obsession with you and he's very protective—" Aoi tilted her head at this but Yashiro didn't want to say she saw Akane's different side when it came to protecting Aoi— "but in the end, he just really loves you."

Yashiro continued, "Ao-chan, you should see the way he lights up when you're nearby—which is pretty much every day because he's always somehow close to you in some way."

Aoi giggled, not bothering to hide the small flush in her cheeks. "Okay, okay."

Yashiro smiled, but it was sort of forced. The Daikon noticed the way Aoi's laugh was sort of hollow, and her eyes felt like they were lost somewhere.

"Aoi. . .why do you not want to be with Akane-kun?"

Aoi sighed and glanced outside the window, her face sort of. . .sad? It wasn't everyday the Aoi Akane acts like this. "Akane-kun acts like I'm some sort of Goddess or something."

You are, though? Yashiro wanted to scream at her.

"I don't want him to love me because he sees me as someone who hung the sun and stars. I'm still a human being. Not everyone is perfect. Not even me," Aoi told Yashiro. "I appreciate that he loves me with his whole heart, but. . ."

"You don't want him to be disappointed?" Yashiro offered.

"I don't want him to be disappointed and get bored at me," Aoi continued, a frown on her pretty face. This was a new side of Aoi.

Yashiro gaped. "Oh! That's some pretty weird thinking!"

Aoi blinked.

"Why do you think he stuck with you for so long? It's because he loves you no matter what! Ao-chan, you're a great girl! You deserve a guy who can treat you right like Akane-kun!" Yashiro grinned. "Besides, don't you think Akane-kun is a cool guy?"

Aoi blushed, and this time, it's not one of those small tints of red on her cheeks, her face literally bloomed into a dark red. "Uhm, yes. Akane-kun can be pretty cool sometimes," Aoi mumbled shyly.

Yashiro cooed. "Aw, Ao-chan! That's so adorable! I wish I can have a relationship like you two."

The bell rang, causing the two to perk up.

"Oh, it's dismissal already?" Yashiro whined, probably lazy and not in the mood to clean the toilets.

Aoi chuckled and patted her head. "It's alright, Nene-chan! We can talk about this tomorrow. Get a good rest, okay?"

"With him as my guard? That's not really possible," Yashiro grumbled under her breath, barely above a whisper as it didn't quite catch Aoi's ears.

"What was that?"

"Oh, nothing, nothing!" Yashiro slung her bag over her shoulder and waved at her best friend. "Well, I need to go now, Ao-chan! I have to visit a friend of mine." She walked away.

Aoi smiled at her retreating figure and also wore her bag.

Akane walked up to her, a brow raised questioningly. "Ao-chan? What were you and Yashiro-san talking about?"

Aoi stared up at him, beaming. "Don't worry, Akane-kun, it's nothing you should worry about!"

Akane smiled at her grinning expression, feeling his heart race. "Nothing important?"

"Just about something special to me."

Finally I posted my draft! It was bugging me everytime I wanted to write a new chapter

Aoi aoi is not their actual ship name lmao 😂 I just liked it because it's funny

Also, it seems like I can't bring myself to not add Yashiro in a chapter 🤔

I'm updating as often as I can because exams are coming up and I probably won't be able to update for a whole week :(
