(31) He Betrayed Him

Bella's POV:

I wasn't allowed to move from the bed for three weeks because my stitches need to be healed. The nurses helped me get cleaned up and I managed to brush my teeth with my functioning right arm.

Gabriel entered and walked to me.

"The nurse told me you're done so I decided to check on you," he said with the goofy smile.

I knew he was faking a general concern for me so I wouldn't feel suffocated under his care. He didn't want me to think that he was expecting something from me, and that was the only reason why he was being concerned for my state.

I didn't know what made him think that waking up from this incident would change my feelings for him.

I opened my mouth to tell him that I still love him and will always do when Nick entered the room.

"I hope I didn't disturb you guys," he said smirking at Gabriel who just rolled his eyes.

I managed to keep my cheeks from heating up.

"The police want to talk to you regarding the incident. They want your statement," Nick said.

Gabriel rubbed his forehead, looking upset.

I gulped, feeling uneasy.

"What am I supposed to tell them? They know I was kidnapped with Gabriel," I told him.

Nick pursed his lips. "Yes, they know you both were kidnapped but they want to everything that happened in these months. What you saw and what they did? Everything," Nick told me.

My body began to tremble and I fisted the sheets. Gabriel noticed the change and looked at his brother.

"She's not prepared to give the statement yet. She has just woken up and you want her to recall all horrible things that happened in past weeks," Gabriel said to his brother.

"I'm a doctor and it's my responsibility to inform them when the patient wakes up. I'm sorry but she has to give the statement. Also, I can call the lawyer so things go smoothly," Nick said.

"It's okay, Nick. I understand. I'll give the statement," I told him.

He walked to me and placed his hand over mine then gave it a squeeze.

"I'll inform them about your state and make sure they don't give you much stress. Your statement is essential to keep your kidnappers in the prison," Nick told me.

I nodded my head and he left the room.

Gabriel sat on the chair with his head in his hands. I placed my hand on his arm and he looked at me with a gentle smile.

"I wish I could do something," he mumbled, sadly.

"You've already done a lot for me, Gabriel."

"Not more than you have done for me."
We stared at each other until the door opened and the nurse entered.

"I'm here with your lunch," she said with the smile, placing a tray on my lap.

"Do you need my help?" She asked.

"I think I'll do fine," I told her.

Gabriel looked confused but didn't say anything until the nurse left.

"How are you going to eat without help?" He asked me confused. "You can't move your left hand."

I rolled my eyes at his question.

"You're here for what? To stare at me all day?" I asked him.

He removed the lid from the soup container with the grin on his handsome face and said, "Not a bad idea actually."

My cheeks heated up but I didn't say anything at his comment. He picked the spoon and started to feed me the soup.

I loved how natural it felt to be with him and enjoy his care. I never thought that a stranger would become so special to me when my own father couldn't love me.

As soon as I thought about him tears came into my eyes. After everything that I had done to follow his rules he still accused me of whoring around.

"Hey, what happened? Why are you crying?" Gabriel asked in worry.

I glanced at him and blinked my tears.

"I was just thinking about my father and what he said," I told him, choking.

A scowl appeared on Gabriel's face and he clenched his hands.

"Don't call him father, he doesn't deserve that title after what he has done."

"What am I going to do now?" I asked him, holding back my tears.

"Do you trust me?" he asked.

"I do, but..."

"Then don't worry, we will figure something out," he said to me with the confidence in his eyes.

Suddenly someone entered the room and locked the door. Gabriel instantly got up and covered me behind his tall figure.

He was a male nurse, wearing a mask over his face.

"It's a nurse, Gabriel," I said confused, trying to look passed him.

The male nurse removed the mask and I gasped in shock.

"Nate," I whispered.

He walked closer to me and Gabriel grabbed his arm.

"Don't you dare to take a step closer to her," he said, glaring at him. "Just because you helped me to save her doesn't make you a safe person to be around her."

Nate grabbed his hand removed it from his arm.

"I know you love her and care for her but you can't stop me from seeing my sister," he snapped at Gabriel.

Gabriel looked confused.

Nate walked to me and wrapped his arms around me. I hugged him back, placing my head in his chest.

"You scared the shit out of me, Bella. I thought I was going to lose you, just like I lost Madeline," he muttered.

"I'm so sorry, Nate. I didn't really care what happened to me at that moment," I told him.

"I did," Gabriel and Nate said at the same time.

Then they both glared at each other.

"You helped, Gabriel. How?" I asked.

Nate sighed.

"I betrayed Tristan," he mumbled. "Gabriel was looking for you, he found out about Tristan and me but he didn't know on which property you were in. I knew he wouldn't be able to get to you in time. You were getting sick and depressed with each passing day. I was so worried. I seized him and told him where to find you."

I hugged Nate again. "Thank you for everything that you have done."

He rubbed my back. "I promised that I would protect you. When you got shot I thought I failed once again."

"It wasn't your fault, it was my choice that I made for the person I am in love with," I told Nate.

Gabriel stood surprised, staring at me.

I decided not to elaborate on my feelings. However, I knew Gabriel and I had to talk about us quite soon.

"Nate, how did you come here? You were arrested," I told him.

"I'm out on bail," he told me.

"Why the hell would they let you out on bail? That's ridiculous," Gabriel said, looking angry.

Nate glared at Gabriel and stood up.

"Tristan and the rest of the men are still in police custody, they will get if you don't give the statement against them," Nate said to me.

"What the fûçk did you say?" Gabriel asked.

"Loverboy, can you hear me first?"

"If you called me that one more time, I'll break you fûçking jaw," Gabriel threatened Nate.

"Stop arguing," I told them. "You told me you care about me then why do you want me to give the fake statement?"

"You know I run a club," he said and I nodded my head. "In police records, I am not a criminal. I just own a club and live a peaceful life."

"I wouldn't say anything about you if you want," I told him.

"It's not about me, Bella. It's about you and him," Nate said glancing at Gabriel.

"What about us?" Gabriel asked.

"Tristan wouldn't come after you Gabriel if Bella gives a statement that his lawyer needs to get him out of the prison," Nate said.

"I don't trust you and him," Gabriel said.

"If you guys wouldn't help him he will still manage to come out of the prison. It will take some time and money that's all," Nate said with the shrug.

"How?" I asked him.

"He runs ten night clubs in this city, he is a respected and well-known businessman," Nate said.

"And he is also a godfather of the mafia organization," Gabriel said.

"If you don't believe me then you can look him up on the internet," he said fetching out his phone and showing me.

I was shocked.

"You all had the weapons and he killed the man in front of the police," Gabriel said.

"All those men have the license to carry those weapons because they all are Tristan Robertson's official security guards. Tristan and I have a license for our weapons, we keep those guns for our safety. The police searched our house and didn't find anything that would put us in trouble."

Nate glanced at Gabriel and asked, "Have you found the chip?"

"No. I don't know where it is and police also don't have it," Gabriel said, gritting his teeth.

"If the official had that chip we all would be rotting in prison," Nate mumbled. "So that means you guys have no evidence. The police can't do anything without the evidence and we will all be released."

"Why do you want her to change her statement if you can still get released?"

Nate looked at me.

"Tristan will get in some trouble because he shot his own security guard in front of the police. If Bella gives a statement against him then there will be an investigation which he doesn't want. The police will probably find something against him to keep him behind the bars so they could get information from him about the organization," Nate explained.

"So you're saying police knows he is connected to the mafia but can't do anything," Gabriel asked.

"Yes, that's exactly what I am saying. They know he is connected to the organization but they can't do anything without evidence," Nate said.

"Bella, I love you and care about you. I will always be there for you and protect you. I don't just call you my sister but think of you as my sister as well. And Tristan is like a brother to me. If he wasn't there to hold me and take me in then I would've killed my self. As a brother, I am begging you for a favor. Don't give a statement against Tristan. Tell the police that you're my friend and came to stay with me because Gabriel and you got in a fight in summer camp," Nate said.

"But what if Tristan would come after Gabriel again. He wants that chip," I told him.

"He will not come after you and him again. You have to trust me, Bella," Nate said squeezing my hand. "The only this that can keep him in prison was the stupid act of shooting his own guard dead,"

"If he knew he would get in trouble for this action then why did he shot his man?" Gabriel asked.

"Why don't you ask that to Bella?" Nate said.

I sucked in a sharp breath. Gabriel stared at me in confusion.

Nate kissed my head and whispered into my ear. "Please, do what I am telling you to do. If you put him behind the bars, the organization will search for you and him. You both will never be out of their radar."

I glanced at Gabriel in worry.

"Here's the disposable phone. Contact me if you trust me, Bella," Nate said, placing a phone in my lap then he put on the mask and left.

Gabriel stared at me with a scrutinizing gaze.

"Do you want to tell me something, Bella?" He asked.

I blinked my eyes to get rid of the water in my eyes. I wanted to confess my love for him but now I had to confess my sins to him.

Gabriel walked to me and gently put his fingers under my chin to lift my face up which was down in shame.

"Look at me and tell me," he asked, gazing into my eyes.

I placed my mouth on him, kissing him gently but passionately. He didn't pull away from and kissed me back, tenderly holding my face.

"Tell me," he said, attaching his forehead with mine.

"He...fell in love with...me," I stuttered.

Gabriel pulled away from and looked away.

I could see his veins popping, he looked extremely angry. He was clenching his hands in rage.

"Gabriel, listen to me," I whispered.

He turned and looked at me with furious eyes.

"Do...you...feel..." he couldn't complete his sentence but I knew what he wanted to know.

I extended my hand and he gazed at it for a few seconds then placed his hand in mine. I grabbed his hand and pulled him closer to me.

"I feel sympathy for him. I still hate what he did to you and me but I understand now why he did everything," I told him.

Gabriel took a sharp breath and closed his eyes.

"So you understand him now," he said with the difficulty.

"Yes, unfortunately," I answered.

He tried to pull away from me but I didn't let his hand go.

"Bella, let me go," he mumbled.

"I can't Gabriel when you're the only person left in my life who I love most," I told him. "And I hope you are not doubting my love for you."

He stood still, gazing at me.

"I am going to kill him," he told me.

I placed my hand on his jaw and he calmed down.

"I don't care if he is in prison or not, but you will do something stupid and end up there then it would break me. After everything, I can't go through more pain. I just want a normal life," I told him.

"Don't tell me you are planning to give the fake statement to police," he said in disbelief.

"Listen to me, I trust Nate. He cares about me and he wouldn't betray me," I told him.

"He betrayed that bastard," Gabriel said.

"No, he didn't betray him. He protected him," I told him.

"How?" Gabriel asked.

"Tristan wanted revenge and he was making stupid mistakes to get the evidence which would put him in trouble. Nate protected him by helping me escape," I told him.

"I don't trust them, Bella," he told me.

"Trust me, I am doing this to protect us. We are doing a favor to both of them and they will be indebted," I told him.

"Nothing makes sense, except your safety. I don't care about my self but you," he said.

I smiled at him.

"Then I'm here to care about you while you care about me," I told him.

He smiled and captured my lips in a sweet gently yet nerve-wracking kiss.
