Y/n kicked a loose stone along the pavement, her fingers tightening around the straps of her bag as she trudged forward, head bowed. A deep frown marred her plump lips, her expression sullied with discontent. Truthfully, she was in no hurry to return home. The mere thought of facing her parents sent a wave of unease through her. Not when she knew-knew with an unsettling certainty-that they were hiding something from her.
She had deliberately skipped breakfast that morning, unwilling to sit across from them and pretend that everything was normal. But now, with the day drawing to a close, she had no choice but to return. The inevitability of confrontation loomed over her like a storm cloud, pressing down on her chest. She knew she would have to face them, yet every fiber of her being rebelled against the notion.
Her brooding thoughts were momentarily interrupted when a flash of gold caught her eye. Her steps faltered, and for the first time that day, her face brightened. A small golden puppy sat a few feet away, its ears twitching as it sniffed curiously at the ground. Without hesitation, Y/n jogged towards it, crouching down as a gentle smile replaced her frown.
The little creature lifted its head at her approach, dark eyes filled with innocent curiosity. As Y/n's fingers brushed over its soft fur, the puppy leaned into her touch, its tail wagging in delight. A warm chuckle escaped her lips, her eyes crinkling into half-moons.
"Aigo, you're absolutely adorable," she cooed, scratching behind its ears.
For a fleeting moment, all her worries dissipated. But peace, it seemed, was never meant to last.
A sharp chime rang through the air-the distinct sound of a cycle bell. Y/n instinctively turned her head, only for her eyes to widen in sheer horror.
A red-haired male was hurtling towards her on his bicycle at an alarming speed.
"Shit!"
The boy's hands jerked the handlebars to the side in a desperate attempt to avoid crashing into her. His front wheel wobbled precariously before colliding with a metal pole at the edge of the pavement. The impact sent the bicycle skidding, but before he could topple over, he planted his feet firmly on the ground, narrowly avoiding disaster.
Y/n, on the other hand, was not so lucky.
With a startled yelp, she lost her balance and landed unceremoniously on the pavement, her backside colliding harshly with the ground. A sharp sting radiated up her spine, her heart pounding in the aftermath of the near collision. Somewhere in the chaos, the golden puppy had scampered away, but Y/n was too dazed to notice.
A pair of polished black boots entered her vision, followed by an exasperated sigh.
"Are you completely incapable of staying out of my way?"
Her head snapped up, eyes blazing as she met the familial gaze of Kim Taehyung.
The red-haired male had dismounted his bicycle, his hands casually resting on the handlebars as he fixed her with an unimpressed stare. His sharp features were twisted into a glare, though the amusement flickering in his brown eyes did little to mask his irritation.
A second passed. Then another.
And then-
"TAEHYUNG!" Y/n exploded, shoving herself up from the ground. "WHY THE HELL DO YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO NEARLY RUN ME OVER WITH YOUR BLOODY CYCLE? CAN'T YOU RIDE PROPERLY FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE?!"
Taehyung scoffed, unfazed by her outburst.
"AND WHY THE HELL WERE YOU SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD? DO YOU THINK THIS IS YOUR LIVING ROOM?!" he shot back, voice laced with equal annoyance.
"I WASN'T SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, YOU BLIND IDIOT! I WAS ADMIRING A PUPPY-" Her voice faltered as she gestured towards where the puppy had been, only to realise that it was no longer there. Her lips parted in confusion, a small pout forming. "Wait... where did the puppy go?"
Taehyung rolled his eyes, crossing his arms. "Tch. As if that matters."
Y/n turned to glare at him. "You're insufferable."
"And you're an unnecessary distraction," he countered smoothly, his lips curling into a smirk.
Y/n opened her mouth to retort, but the words died on her tongue when she noticed the sudden shift in Taehyung's demeanor.
His gaze was no longer on her.
His entire frame tensed, his eyes darkening as a frown tugged at his lips.
Before she could even register what was happening, Taehyung's grip shot out, fingers wrapping tightly around her wrist as he yanked her behind him. The abruptness of his actions made her stumble slightly, her brows knitting together in confusion.
"Taehyung, what-"
"Shut up for a second!" Taehyung hissed, his voice laced with urgency.
Y/n instantly fell silent, her body instinctively stiffening at the uncharacteristic harshness in his tone. Peeking hesitantly from behind him, she followed his line of sight, her breath catching as she watched a man step out of a sleek black car. His movements were deliberate, measured, exuding a quiet yet unmistakable authority. Dressed in all black, his sharp gaze locked onto Taehyung with an intensity that sent a shiver down Y/n's spine.
Her brows knitted together in confusion. Who the hell is this guy? And why does Taehyung look so... tense?
The man, his dark hair neatly slicked back, stopped a few feet away before speaking.
"You do know why you're here, don't you, V? You're here to do your job, not to make friends."
His tone was calm-almost conversational-but there was an undercurrent of something far more dangerous lurking beneath his words.
Y/n's eyes flickered downward, her gaze landing on her own hand-still held firmly within Taehyung's grasp. Her fingers twitched involuntarily when his grip tightened, his hold possessive, almost as though he were staking a claim. She flinched slightly at the pressure, confusion thickening like a dense fog in her mind. Job? What job? What the hell is he talking about?
Taehyung's response came swiftly, his voice void of its usual playful arrogance.
"You don't need to tell me what to do, Park. I know exactly what the hell I'm doing."
The sheer iciness in his tone sent a ripple of unease through Y/n. She had never heard him speak like that before-so cold, so detached, so... threatening.
It was abundantly clear now-Taehyung despised this man. That much was obvious.
But why?
Her unease only deepened when the doors of the black car swung open again, revealing several more men stepping out, each exuding an aura of silent intimidation.
Her heartbeat quickened. What the hell is happening?
Then-before she could fully process the moment-Taehyung abruptly let go of her hand.
Y/n barely had a second to react before she noticed where his hand had moved.
His fingers now rested casually on his waistband-where a sleek, black gun was holstered.
A chill ran down her spine.
Her legs felt weak, as if the ground beneath her had suddenly turned to quicksand. Her hands trembled violently, her breathing growing unsteady. The realization hit her like a freight train.
Who are these people? More importantly, who the hell is Kim Taehyung?
Park smirked, unfazed by Taehyung's cold demeanour.
"Our boss may trust you, but I don't. Not in the slightest," he remarked, his voice laced with quiet suspicion.
Taehyung let out a humourless chuckle, the sound void of any amusement.
"That's not my problem, now, is it?"
Park's sharp gaze flickered towards Y/n, assessing her with unsettling interest.
"Hey, kid. What's your name?" His lips curled into an easy smirk, but there was something sinister lurking beneath the surface. "If you're one of Taehyung's friends, that makes you a friend of mine, too."
Y/n's throat went dry.
A surge of discomfort settled in her stomach at the prospect of giving her name to a complete stranger-especially one who seemed far too familiar with Taehyung in ways she didn't understand.
Thankfully, she was spared from answering.
"He's not my friend," Taehyung interjected swiftly, his voice laced with impatience. "Didn't you see us shouting at each other? Just leave, Kang. Stop interfering in my work."
Park-Kang, as Taehyung had called him-tilted his head slightly, his smirk deepening.
"Move aside, V. I need to see him."
Without waiting for a response, Kang reached out, his hand aiming to push Taehyung out of the way.
But he never got the chance.
Taehyung's reflexes were lightning-fast.
Before Kang's fingers could so much as graze him, Taehyung's hand shot out, gripping his wrist in an iron hold. A dangerous glint flickered in his eyes as he tightened his grip, his expression a mask of unrelenting fury.
"I told you, didn't I?" His voice dropped to a lethal whisper, his words slow and deliberate. "Stop. Interfering. In. My. Work."
And with that, he shoved Kang's hand away with a forceful jerk, causing the man to stumble back a step.
A tense silence followed.
Then-
"V!" Kang barked, glaring at Taehyung, his smirk finally slipping.
Taehyung's gaze remained unwavering, his voice low and dangerous.
"Leave, Park."
Kang scoffed, regaining his composure almost instantly.
"Or what?" he challenged, his smirk creeping back.
Taehyung let out another dry chuckle, shaking his head in exasperation.
"You really do love testing me, don't you?"
Kang merely shrugged, his confidence unwavering.
But then, in the blink of an eye-
Taehyung moved.
Before anyone could react, he pulled out his gun, aimed without hesitation, and fired.
The sound of the gunshot echoed through the air.
Y/n flinched violently, her entire body recoiling as her hands shot up to cover her ears. Her eyes squeezed shut, her breath coming out in ragged gasps.
A strangled cry tore through the silence as one of Kang's men crumpled to the ground, clutching his leg in agony.
Kang's smirk vanished, his head snapping towards the fallen man. His lips parted slightly, as if momentarily caught off guard.
And that moment was all Taehyung needed.
Seizing the opportunity, he grabbed Y/n's wrist once more-his grip firm, unyielding-and without a second thought, he bolted.
Dragging her along with him.
"Shit! Catch them!"
Shouts erupted behind them, but Taehyung didn't falter. His strides were long and calculated, his grip never loosening as he pulled Y/n through the dimly lit streets.
Y/n stumbled as she struggled to keep up, her heart hammering against her ribcage. Adrenaline coursed through her veins, every cell in her body screaming in terror.
Everything was happening too fast.
Too unreal.
Too terrifying.
And the only thought that dominated her panicked mind was-
Who the hell is Kim Taehyung?
The sound of hurried footsteps echoed against the cold pavement as Taehyung and Y/n sprinted. through the dimly lit streets, shadows stretching ominously beneath flickering street lights. Park's men were relentless in their pursuit, their shouts cutting through the night air.
Taehyung, with his long strides and effortless agility, was undoubtedly faster than their pursuers, but Y/n was struggling to keep up. Her breath came in ragged gasps, her legs burning from the exertion, her face drained of all colour. She had no idea what was happening-why they were running, who they were running from, or more terrifyingly, why Taehyung had a gun. The only thing she knew for certain was that he was dragging her forward with an unyielding grip, giving her no choice but to follow.
She stumbled several times, her feet barely managing to regain balance before she could collapse entirely. In sheer desperation, she turned her head, stealing a glance over her shoulder. The men were still behind them, but thankfully, they were starting to fall back.
Just then, a narrow alley caught Taehyung's sharp eyes. Without hesitation, he veered towards it, yanking Y/n along. She barely had a second to react before he dragged her towards a large dumpster, its rusted metal exterior reeking of decay.
"Get in," he commanded, flinging the lid open.
Y/n recoiled in immediate disgust, wrinkling her nose as she took a step back.
"Ew-what the f-"
Before she could finish protesting. Taehyung unceremoniously shoved her inside.
She landed with a muffled grunt, the putrid stench of rotting food and filth immediately assaulting her senses.
Her stomach churned. Oh God.
A moment later, Taehyung slipped in beside her, shutting the lid carefully before peeking out through a small gap. The space was suffocatingly tight, their bodies pressed together as they remained hidden in the darkness.
Y/n gagged, clamping a hand over her nose and mouth in an attempt to suppress the overwhelming nausea rising in her throat. The only thing remotely tolerable in this hellish confinement was the faint scent of lavender-the familiar fragrance of
Taehyung, mingling with the stench of their current hiding place. But even that wasn't enough to mask the sheer repulsiveness surrounding them.
"Don't you dare throw up on me, Kang Y/n," Taehyung muttered under his breath, his tone carrying an unspoken threat.
Y/n groaned in response, her voice laced with pure misery. "It smells like absolute shit in here!"
Taehyung rolled his eyes. "We're inside a dumpster, for fuck's sake. Did you expect it to smell like a bloody rose garden?" he whisper-yelled. exasperation dripping from his words.
She was about to snap back when he suddenly tensed, his entire body stilling. Peering through the small gap, he watched as Park's men sprinted past the alley, oblivious to their hiding spot. He remained silent, waiting a few more moments to ensure they were gone before exhaling in relief.
Without wasting another second, he threw open the lid and climbed out, immediately reaching back to pull Y/n up with him.
As soon as she was free, she stumbled away from the dumpster, taking deep, greedy breaths of fresh air, desperate to rid herself of the rancid smell clinging to her.
But just as the tension seemed to momentarily subside-
"They're here!"
A sharp voice rang out, making both Taehyung and Y/n freeze in place.
They turned swiftly, only to be met with the sight of a man standing a few feet away-his gun aimed directly at them.
Y/n's breath hitched, her heart hammering violently against her ribs.
"God, you lot are like bloody mosquitoes. Annoying as hell," Taehyung muttered with irritation, rubbing his temple before raising his gun.
Without hesitation, he pulled the trigger.
A deafening gunshot sliced through the night.
Y/n's entire body jolted as she flinched violently, her eyes widening in sheer horror.
The man crumpled to the ground instantly, a gaping wound between his eyes, lifeless.
Her stomach lurched.
Her legs gave out beneath her as she stumbled back, her hands trembling uncontrollably.
She turned to Taehyung, her gaze filled with pure terror, her breath shallow and uneven. He, on the other hand, remained eerily calm, slipping his gun back into its holster as if he had merely completed a mundane task.
Then, without a word, he reached for her again, gripping her wrist before shoving her behind the dumpster.
"Stay here," he ordered firmly, leaving no room for argument. his voice leaving no
Before she could process anything further, another voice echoed through the night.
"Just hand him over, V. Let's end this fight right here."
Taehyung let out a slow, measured sigh, closing his eyes momentarily as if barely restraining his patience. When he opened them again, his gaze was sharp, unwavering.
"Last time I checked," he mused, his tone bordering on mocking, "I was the one given the order to kill her, Park. Not you. So, stay the fuck out of my business, yeah?"
Y/n's blood ran cold.
Her breath caught in her throat.
He was sent to kill me...?
A cruel, humourless chuckle escaped Park's lips as he folded his arms across his chest, tilting his head slightly.
"Then why the hell haven't you done it yet?"
Taehyung smirked.
Taking slow, deliberate steps forward, he tilted his head, his eyes gleaming with something dark.
"I know exactly what I'm doing, Park," he murmured. "And last I checked, you're not my boss."
Before Park could retort, Taehyung moved.
Another gunshot rang out.
Y/n clamped a hand over her mouth, a strangled gasp escaping as she watched Park stagger backwards, a fresh bullet wound embedded in his chest.
Tears pricked her eyes, her body trembling as the reality of the situation sank in. She had just witnessed another man being shot-dying right before her eyes.
How was she supposed to react to this?
How was she supposed to erase this image from her mind?
Taehyung strolled over to Park's fallen body, gripping a handful of his blonde hair before
yanking him up with effortless strength.
The dying man groaned in pain, but Taehyung merely clicked his tongue, shaking his head.
"I told you not to interfere, didn't I, Park?" He let out a mock sigh, his grip tightening. "And now, look at you..."
With that, he shoved Park's body back onto the ground, his expression void of sympathy.
Behind him, Y/n forced herself to stand, though her knees threatened to buckle beneath her weight. Her
entire body was trembling, her lips quivering as she stared at Taehyung-the man she thought she knew, but clearly didn't..
Slowly, he turned to face her.
Their eyes met.
A dark smirk played on his lips as he spun his gun between his fingers with unnerving ease.
"Who... are you?" Y/n finally managed to whisper, her voice barely above a breath, thick with fear.
Taehyung took a step forward.
She instinctively stepped back-only to feel the cold, unyielding surface of the wall press against her
spine.
She was trapped.
Taehyung's smirk deepened.
"Oh?" He tilted his head, eyes glinting with amusement. "Let me introduce myself again."
His voice dipped lower, more menacing.
"I'm Kim Taehyung. Known as V."
And then, before she could even blink, the cold, unrelenting barrel of his gun pressed against her temple.
His smirk widened, his voice dropping to a whisper.
"But you... can just call me your worst nightmare."
