The fight would be held where the tourney once was and the stands would be once filled with citizens of King's Landings and many Lord's along with ladies. The people of King's Landing should have the right to personally bare witness to whom should be protecting their city.
Viserys made sure Rhagar's father had a front row seat in the royals box and even thought of letting Daemon visit to see his most trusted friend in the arena. Little did the King know Daemon wasn't planning on waiting for permission as word spread like a plague the Rouge Prince and his Blood Wyrm were already on their way.
The Hightower's were all present and Otto seemed to be the most devious as he held an ignorant sneer on his face- seemed he couldn't for a smile if he tried. Whilst Alicent held a bright grin that she shunned away from her father as she would anger him even further though she knew her close friend was to win.
Although Katrina say perfectly straight and looked uncomfortable with pinched lips in a small frown as she sat closest to the King but her lips turned up whenever her sister called for her.
Lord Corlys and Rhaenys were also present with their two children Laena and Laenor who held wooden swords in their grasps as they leant over the railing whilst cheering Rhagar's name.
Rodrick was no where in sight though his father and some of his family were present along with Lannister's and Maesters on stand by.
Although the Princess was sat beside her father with Alicent to her right, two of the closest people to her, she had her face pulled into a bored look. A week had passed since the two had nearly kissed and she had been avoiding him, Rhagar had been following her round like a lost puppy begging to speak with her.
The man gave up once she gave him the cold shoulder and wouldn't even glance at him, Rhagar now held the same resentment he always had against her once again.
She simply thought that he was toying with her from the way he bolted out the room when their lips were inches away from another. She thought it was some game and a slight smirk lifted at the corner of her lips- two could play at that game.
"Today we are here to witness the battle against Ser Criston of House Cole," the people of the realm cheered for him though it was clear not the entire arena thought he was worth it. The knight walked out atop his white horse with Dornish men behind him holding their house banners. "And Rhagar Of House Warfare!"
The people stood tall from where they sat and chanted Rhagar's name loudly as he appeared from the dark archway perched on his dark horse. Rodrick was beside him with amazement in his eyes as the many soldiers of the city watch followed behind him holding the Targaryen flag along with House Warfares.
It was clear the men in silver armour were riled up and liked as if they were about to tear apart the stands as they each held a mad look in their eye until a mighty roar silenced them all. A dark shadow casted itself over the people as Klauth stared the people down with malicious intent but did not land or else he would've crushed them.
Once the ground stopped quaking the people pointed to the sky and shrieked in joyous astonishment, Rhaenyra rolled her eyes and hid a smile with her hand as she thought, 'show off.'
Klauth blew smoke from his nose as Rhagar waved him off before his large wings nearly took many heads off in the crowd as he flew above the clouds.
Alicent clapped her hands with a delighted smile and Rhagar grinned back at her before sliding off his horse and passing the reigns to Rodrick who gave him an encouraging hand on the back.
Rhagar's eyes scanned those on the same level around him and he stared over at Ser Criston who tried to keep a level headed facade though he appeared to have a layer of sweat on his forehead, the Valyrian let out a small laugh through his nose.
He felt his shoulders being shook as the soldiers behind him planted the many banners into the ground before settling in the archway behind Rhagar whilst Rodrick stood off to the side with his horse in tow.
Rhagar turned his head to the left and saw a dark shadow with a hood over their head, they were stood next to his soon to be men but far off to the left of them. A small smile came to grace his face as the shadow lifted its head and gave him a large smirk with a nod of their head.
This gave Rhagar a certain buzz that he enjoyed and he stalked towards the centre of the grounds with a hand on the hilt of his sword. Criston walked towards him and there the two stood fighting for the position as a Commander and the opportunity to guard the Kings daughter, the Realms delight.
"Gentlemen you do well to remember this is not a fight to the death," Viserys warned though the crowed booed but the King held his hand up silencing them, "the battle for honour and glory...may begin."
A bell rang out and the knights were now commissioned to start except they didn't move only tracing one another with their eyes deciphering who would take the first strike. Rhagar darted his eyes to the right before they widened significantly and his eyebrows furrowed.
"What is that?"
Criston turned to see what he was looking at but when he found nothing he was quick to receive a hard punch to the nose- in between the gap in his helmet, sending him toppling back many steps he blinked rapidly as his eyes started to water.
The crowd cheered and Kratus shouted, "atta boy!" Whilst Daemon, whom was still hidden in the shadows shook his clenched fist and whispered out a joyous yes to himself.
Rhaenyra scoffed slightly and was going to tell Alicent how it wasn't fair but turned to find her standing beside Kratus at the edge of the railing.
Rhagar had unsheathed his sword and swung for the man at his stomach to which he blocked with his own sword before the metal clashed together as they both held the swords in the air.
Blow after blow Rhagar hit and the only damage he had done was make a larger dent in the helmet, he knew what Criston was doing. Trying to tire him out so he could not defend himself but he was going to give the knight an ugly surprise.
It's not a surprise to people that Warfares don't fight with honour they fought dirty, using their surroundings and clever tactics to their advantages. That's how they won but many thought they were u deserving of the riches and stories they received from how they fight, his father and himself call them one word- dicks.
Rhagar kicked Criston in his chest plate making him skid on the back of his heels with a strangled gasp leaving his lips as he'd been winded. The white haired warrior spun swiftly in a circle whilst dragging the steel across the dirt covered floor. The dirt gathered on his sword and he flung it at the knight before he'd had a chance to even regain his breath.
The crowd were in awe and the knights of the watch became animalistic as it seemed the longer the fight went on the more vigorous their actions were, it didn't help that the crowds seemed to edge them on further like a bitter wine.
"They clearly want me," Rhagar started to tear into Criston both physically and now mentally, "you should just quit now and I may beg the Lord's,"Rhagar blocked his sluggish attack with one unbothered hand, "that the world forgets how you were at my mercy."
Ser Criston clenched his jaw and grinned his teeth together before clasping both of his hands around his sword and charging at Rhagar with a war cry.
He mindlessly stood to the side and dug the tip of his sword into the ground and he leant on it when Ser Criston whipped back round to face him. His hair sticking to his forehead and chest heaving as he tried to think a way out of his loosing streak.
But it was useless he was the helpless pig auctioned up for slaughter and Rhagar was the dragon hungry for his blood. So, the pig decided he was to not go down without putting up a fight though, it was a pity that Rhagar simply wanted to taunt him and strip him of his honour in front of everyone especially the one he was supposed to protect with his life.
Criston once again charged at him but Rhagar dodge the metal and sucker punched him in the stomach making the man kneel to the ground in pain as the Valyrian laughed above him so did the people.
Whilst Rhagar was above him laughing he took his sword and threw his sword into the man's shoulder, it was a good throw as it impaled itself deeply. Rhagar went silent but the people certainly did not, Rhaenyra's eyes widened slightly not for Rhagar, as he pulled the sword out with ease, but the Cole now he was surely to die.
"That's my best friend!" Alicent shouted as her hand rested upon Kratus' shoulder from where the two were still stood at the edge of the box smiling wildly. Daemons head snapped to hers once he heard her words and scowled before looking back at Rhagar whom had used the hilt of his sword to hit his nose once more.
Criston fell on his arse as he clutched his now broken nose and his eyes started to water but it was clear he still had some fight left in him. Rhagar stood over him when he tried to throw his body over to his sword but Rhagar pressed the blade to the mans neck, forcing him back into the ground.
The Cole could no longer see the sun above him as Rhagar's shadow loomed over him the crowd hollered in anticipation. Viserys squinted his eyes both from the heat of the sun but also in hesitation about wether he should stop Rhagar before he'd impale his sword into Ser Cristons head.
Rhaenyra chewed on her lip anxiously as she zeroed in on Rhagar's sword being raised into the air and her breath began to get caught in her throat as he looked ready to cave in his skull.
Ser Criston thought his life was over he did the only thing he thought he could do, closed his eyes and waited for the cold bite that couldn't be healed. Rhagar looked from the King to his brother in the shadows, the crowd to the Kings Watch and from his father and Alicent to Rhaenyra.
Gold clashed with lilac once more and his body stilled as if a poison now controlled him- mind body and soul their was a temptress now holding the key to his heart.
And he gave her no reason to unlock it.
He glanced from the princess to the bleeding knight on the floor and raised the sword high into the air before thrusting it down harshly- next to the knights head.
Some of the crowd had gone silent but others held the same volume as they did not want any more bloodshed, the King got out of his seat and clapped loudly leading the rest of the Lords and Ladies to join him.
Criston flinched when he felt the sword his the ground and he looked up at Rhagar with wariness in his eyes. Rhagar eyed him some more as if he was deciphering what he'd do with him now and that's what lead him to hold out his hand for Ser Criston to take.
The man below him looked sceptical but Rhagar gave nothing away and so he gingerly placed his hand on Rhagar's forearm leading his to be placed on Cristons as he heaved the man up.
"You are a good knight Ser Crispin," the man rolled his eyes with a huff making Rhagar subtly smirk, "I hope to fight with you more than against you."
"As do I," Rhagar leaned forward to the man so they could hear each other amongst the crowd, "I know you didn't want the position to be a Commander," he taunted.
Criston looked like a dead caught in headlights but Rhagar waved off his worries with a small chuckle, "don't fret the I pray for any helpless flies who get caught in her web but do best to stay away from her she's not yours."
Ser Criston thought Rhagar had been jesting at the start and that he was but the last words he spoke were more of a warning than anything and so he thought it best to nod. Rhagar turned his head to look at the princess before seeing her give him a downward smile with a roll of her eyes before slow clapping making him bite his tongue.
"Rhagar Valyrian you have proved yourself a great warrior this day and I herby name you Commander of the City Watch," the hounds of the Watch shouted manically and their armour shook as they jumped in their spot. "You also have a duty to guard the princess, my daughter whom you are now under oath too."
Rhagar sliced his eyes to Rhaenyra and caught a glance of her narrowing gaze with purple irises practically glowing in mirth. He sighed begrudgingly, he'd been fighting for the opportunity to be a Commander, completely forgetting that he'd signed up to be at her beck and call. Fantastic.
"It would be my honour," Rhagar gritted out as he walked to stand below the railings where Rhaenyra had come to stand above him. "Princess," he bowed his head before staring up at her with a raised eyebrow as he saw her eyes trail from the scratches on his face to his wounded shoulder.
"You are to come with me at once," she demanded and turned away from him with a small snicker begging to escape her lips. He huffed lowly as he realised what was now in store for him sadly, for the rest of his days.
"You were great Rhagar!" Laena placed her head through the railings whilst her brother did the same next to her, still holding the wooden sword in his grasp.
"Thank you my dear perhaps I will see you on the battlefield in the future along with your brother," he flashed the two a soft smile and they giggled before Laenor whacked the fake sword over his sisters head making him run back to hide behind his mother, who raised her eyebrows amused, though Corlys scooped a furious Laena in his arms and took her away.
"That was splendid Rhagar you were great," Alicent grinned to him and he smiled charmingly before her sister came and joined her with a hum, "you certainly fought valiantly."
He bashfully looked to the floor when his father looked ready to jump from the railings by how far his mouth was stretched. "I can not wait to tell Daemon and I can not believe I get to call my son Commander of the City Watch." His voice boomed loudly and Rhagar laughed when the crowd behind him called out his name loudly as if he were a God.
The mention of Daemon made him glance to his men whom were gleeful and nodding to him as they left the arena, then to the shadow where the man was supposed to be only to find nothing but darkness.
His shoulders deflated slightly and he groaned quietly as he looked to see his black armour being turned red. Though a far away rumble of a roar made him look to the sky in satisfaction as he knew it was Caraxes but a curt voice of great annoyance made him cringe and nearly clamp his hands over his ears.
"Rhagar! Hurry up!" Rhaenyra called from an arch way across from him.
"Oh goodie."
