CHAPTER FIFTEEN, armed and dangerous

โ”€โ”€โ”€ ๏ฝฅ ๏ฝก๏พŸโ˜†: *.โ˜ฝ .* :โ˜†๏พŸ. โ”€โ”€โ”€

Only a few days have gone by after Agent Graham had took over as leader for the bionic team, and the whole world found out about them. And since then, everything had changed.

Adam, Bree, Chase and Emilia have been treated like celebrities, and it seemed like the only one that was feeling out of place, was Emilia.

"Students of Mission Creek, please welcome your bionic super-humans!" The hallway of students erupted in applause as the four bionic super-humans walked into school.

"And our trusty little mascot, Chase." Adam said, tapping his brother who whacked him in the stomach.

As the brothers continued to whack each other in the chest, Emilia sighed. "Enough." She grabbed their wrists before pulling them away from one another.

And where was Agent Graham? Standing in front of a camera. "Now that I'm in charge of the bionic team, I'm gonna be taking them to a whole new level. Believe me, you're going to be seeing a lot more of us."

"Wow, this is amazing." Chase grinned. "It's like we're celebrities." He gushed as Agent Graham walked back over to them.

"We are. And this is just the beginning."

Emilia scoffed. "I can't believe that people are so shallow, they only like us because we're bionic."

"Yeah." Bree sighed as if she was agreeing before smiling. "Isn't it awesome?!"

"Not what I meant." Emilia mumbled under her breath, stepping away from them, when her eyes caught Adam signing a girl's forehead. This made Emilia furrow her brows slightly, and shook her head as she went to walk away, but someone had called her name.

"Hi, Emilia." The auburn-haired girl turned her head at the sound of the voice, smiling gently as she spotted the girl. "Sorry to bother you but can I ask you a question? I'm Elizabeth by the way, but you can call me Lizzie."

"Of course you can. And I love your name."

"Okay. So, I read all about your banshee abilities and you're absolutely amazing. But, I wanted to ask, how you cope with it all?" Knowing it was a personal question, Lizzie added. "You don't have to answer it, but I was just curious."

"Oh, no. Don't be silly." Emilia shook her head in reassurance. "I'd love to." She thought to herself for a moment before starting to speak. "Well, I've had these abilities since I was 10, but I've never fully experienced it until a few years later, and I still find it scary and hard to cope with. I mean, I'm basically psychic. But, putting that aside, I use my abilities towards missions so I can save people."

"Oh, I'm sorry you have to go through that." The blonde-haired girl started off. "But, your abilities are amazing. So I just wanted to say thank you."

"It's no problem." Emilia smiled. "Feel free to ask me any questions."

"By the way, I just want to point out that you and Chase are so cute together." Lizzie returned the smile.

"Oh, thank you. You know, between you and me, who do you think is punching?" The Hunter girl smirked slightly.

The blonde laughed. "Oh, definitely Chase."

"Oh, I love you already." Emilia high-fived Lizzie.

"Hey!" The two girls turned to see Chase walking over to them. "What are you talking about?"

"Nothing." Emilia quickly said. "We are definitely not talking about you." She plastered a smirk on her face, turning back to the blonde and sent her a playful wink. "All right, I'll see you later, Lizzie. Have a nice day."

Emilia waved at the blonde as she stepped away, letting out a giggle as she turned around before jumping on Chase's back โ€” the couple making their way towards class.

โ”€โ”€โ”€ ๏ฝฅ ๏ฝก๏พŸโ˜†: *.โ˜ฝ .* :โ˜†๏พŸ. โ”€โ”€โ”€

"No, don't get up. I got it." Donald looked around at all the federal agents who completely ignored the fact that he was struggling to carry a heavy metal barrel, and didn't bother to help him.

"Here. I've got you." Emilia offered to help as she walked over, making Donald smile at the girl in gratitude.

"Thank you, Emilia."

At the sound of footsteps, the duo looked up and saw Agent Graham walk in, laughing with Adam, Bree and Chase.

"What's so funny?" Donald wondered.

"Oh, nothing." Chase avoided saying the truth.

However, Adam chose to do the opposite, finding himself amused as he chuckled. "Agent Graham said the most amazing piece of technology in the whole lab is your hair."

"Ha-ha. Hysterical." Donald feigned a laugh at all the federal agents who joined in with the laughter to the joke. He looked back at the kids, excluding Emilia, and reminded them. "You're 15 minutes late for training."

"Actually, their training's been put on hold until further notice. Didn't you read the memo?" Agent Graham stepped towards Donald before letting out a chuckle. "Oh, that's right. You're not on the memo list."

Emilia stayed by Donald's side as he tried to talk to the man. "They need their training to maintain their bionics, not to mention their missionsโ€”"

But Agent Graham quickly cut him off. "Yes, but right now the most important mission is getting our faces out there. That's why we're going on an international press tour."

"Wait, no training and we get to travel?" Bree let out a gasp in excitement. "Oh, can we go to Paris?"

"Only after we go to London!"

Emilia sighed at this. Don't get her wrong, she'd absolutely love to travel around the world, but not like this. Not when other people might need to be rescued during missions that the others seemed to be ignoring.

"Look, I know we kind of got off on the wrong foot with the whole 'me arresting you' thing." The agent started to say.

"Hey, just tell me we're going to Des Moines and all is forgiven." Adam told him.

"Then I guess we're going to Des Moines!" Agent Graham exclaimed, making Adam cheer.

"Yes! I love being owned by the government."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa." Donald interjected. "Guys, this is completely irresponsible."

Bree walked around the agent and stood in front of Donald. "Mr. Davenport, we've been training our whole lives. Don't we deserve just a little bit of fun?"

"I think you do." Agent Graham spoke up. "I also think you deserve a little thanks for all you've done for mankind. Don't you agree, Mr. Davenport?"

Emilia's eyes hardened.

"Yes, of course, I do." Donald stammered out an answer. "But," He turned to Chase. "Chase, tell him how important training is."

"Well, Mr Davenport does have a point." Chase started to agree with Donald.

Agent Graham turned to the boy. "I can show you where they keep Einstein's brain." He proposed, and to no surprise, Chase instantly changed his mind.

"Training, schmaning." He scoffed, waving it off, receiving looks of disbelief from Donald and his girlfriend.

"Go pack your gear. Wheels up to New York in 15 minutes." Agent Graham informed.

Adam smiled. "Ah, New York. The Des Moines of the East." Then he walked away with both of his siblings.

Donald looked back at the agent. "This is insane. You're not qualified to lead them. You don't even understand how their bionic infrastructure works." He said angrily.

"And I really don't care. How many times do I have to tell you to stay out of my way?" The agent spoke, almost threateningly.

"Fine, I get it." Donald sighed and held his hands in the air as Emilia clenched her fists. "You're in charge. But I'm not gonna stop being involved in their lives."

"Oh, don't worry." Agent Graham sat on the chair at Leo's Mission Specialist desk. "There's still plenty for you to do. We'll call you our Mission Specialist."

Donald gasped and narrowed his eyes. "Mission Specialist? That's like being an intern. I mean, Leo is our Mission Specialist."

Pointing over at him, Graham decided. "Then you can be his assistant. And since he's not here right now, you have the honour of going on a smoothie run."

"Seriously?" The Davenport man scoffed. "I'm a word renowned scientist and you're gonna send me on a smoothie run?"

"You're right. That was inappropriate." The agent reached inside his suit jacket to pull a phone out of his pocket. "You better clear it with your supervisor, Leo." He looked over at the girl next to Donald. "Emilia, are you coming with us?"

"No thanks, I'm good." Emilia narrowed her eyes at the man who shrugged before standing out of the chair and left the lab. "He's a douche. I don't like him."

She turned to Donald who nodded, agreeing with the girl. "Neither do I." He sighed and wrapped his arm around the girl, glad that at least one of the kids was on his side.

โ”€โ”€โ”€ ๏ฝฅ ๏ฝก๏พŸโ˜†: *.โ˜ฝ .* :โ˜†๏พŸ. โ”€โ”€โ”€

No answer from any of them, is what Donald got the next day after trying to contact them and let Adam, Bree and Chase know about the mission, that in the end, Donald and Emilia had to take care of themselves.

With Donald being human, Emilia did a lot of the work in trying to save as many people out of the building as they could after it caught on fire. It was fortunate that they managed to get everyone out, however, in cost of that, Emilia injured her leg after it got stuck under some rubble.

Returning to the lab, Donald helped Emilia walk in, the girl clutching her side in pain as he helped her sit on the small chair in the corner. Once she was settled, Donald stood by her and started to unpack his bag.

Hearing footsteps coming from the tunnels, not one of them looked up as Adam, Bree and Chase walked in, dressed in their mission suits.

"Oh, hey, Mr Davenport. Hey Emilia." Bree first greeted the two. Donald glanced at her, still not saying a word.

"What happened to you two?" Once Chase asked, Donald turned around, slamming the flashlight on the shelf beside him and Emilia.

"Well, you would know if you had answered your stupid phone." Emilia grumbled, the snap in her tone clear to them before the groan in pain that next followed, covered it up.

"Where have you been?" Donald looked angry at the trio. "We've been calling for hours." The man turned back to his bag to continue unpacking.

"I didn't even notice you two called." Chase told them with furrowed brows. "We've been too busy flying around the country doing meet and greets."

"Yeah, we kissed a ton of babies. Their heads are delicious." Adam grinned at the two, but neither of their cold expressions faltered one bit.

"Here it is." Chase looked down at his phone and saw the notifications. "17 missed calls from both of you and a text message with a..." He looked up from his phone. "mission alert. Well, how can we help you, yesterday?"

"We had to go alone." Donald began. "Emilia was able to help and save everyone, but she got badly hurt because of it."

"Oh, that's terrible. You should've called us." The eldest-Davenport sibling sighed, shrugging his shoulders, making everyone look at him.

"Ah, good news, team." Agent Graham walked in from the tunnels. "This weekend we're off to Paris."

"That's it." Emilia instantly forgot about the pain, the feeling of anger washing over her when she saw the agent and tried to get up from the chair, but unfortunately, Donald told her to stay put before he stormed towards the agent.

"All right. Enough with the press tour. They have important work to do." Donald raised his voice at the man. "Because of you, they missed a mission and people got hurt. Including Emilia!"

But Agent Graham didn't seem bothered by it one bit. "Well, that's unfortunate, but they have other priorities right now." He said before leaving.

Donald turned around to face the trio. He threw his arms out, sighing. "Oh, so getting your faces in front of the camera is more important than saving lives."

"We didn't say that." Chase piped up, struggling to come up with a clear answer. "It's just, things have changed."

Donald still didn't look happy. "Well, I'm glad you guys had 16 years of bionic training, so you could do the weather for AM San Diego."

"That's tomorrow." Bree informed, as her and her brothers smiled awkwardly at the man.

"You know what?" Donald looked at the siblings in disbelief. "I'm really disappointed in you guys. All our hard work and all you care about is being famous." He scoffed and went to walk away but Chase stopped him.

"Mr Davenportโ€”"

"You know what?" Donald cut him off. "Save it. I thought you guys were heroes... but I guess I was wrong." Without another word, he turned around and walked out of the tunnels as Emilia began to get up to her feet.

The Hunter quietly limped over to the tunnels to make her escape. "Wow. Are we really doing AM San Diego tomorrow?" Adam asked his siblings who were first to turn around, stopping Emilia from leaving.

"Lia. Are you okay?" At Chase's call, Emilia leant on the wall on the tunnels and sighed.

"Not really." Emilia first said. "But, thank you for finally noticing." She mumbled tiredly.

"Em, are you mad at us?" Bree frowned, noticing the difference in her tone once again.

Emilia turned her body around, her left side now leaning against the wall as she looked at the trio, tilting her head. "Does it look like I'm thrilled with you?" She rhetorically asked.

They didn't respond, allowing Emilia to continue speaking as they knew she wasn't done. "And you want to know why I'm not? Because, the three people who I could rely on the most to be there for me as much as I am for them, were not there because they were too busy running off with a self-absorbed prick that's only using us to make money and make himself look good in front of the camera." She took a breath. "So, if you want someone like that as our leader, fine. But, leave me out of it. Otherwise, the next time you guys are in trouble, I won't be there."

She turned around before limping out of the lab, trying hard to ignore Chase's calls as she left.

โ”€โ”€โ”€ ๏ฝฅ ๏ฝก๏พŸโ˜†: *.โ˜ฝ .* :โ˜†๏พŸ. โ”€โ”€โ”€

"I don't care if the President is coming." Donald and Emilia were being dragged down to the lab by Bree. "I don't want any part of it."

"Yeah well, you were demoted so you don't have a say. And Emilia has to be here because she's still part of the team." Bree reminded them, making Emilia sigh.

"He's here, he's here." Agent Graham ran into the lab. "Everyone in position." Soon, the President walked in with two of his bodyguards in front of him. "Mr President, welcome to the home of the world's first bionic super-humans." Graham had introduced, pointing over to Emilia and the trio.

Chase was first to step forward. "It's an honour to meet you, Mr President. I'm Chaseโ€”"

The boy was interrupted by Adam whacking his shoulder as he bowed to the President. "Good tidings, my lordship."

"You must be Adam." The President theorised.

Bree smiled. "And you must be disappointed, I'm Bree." She introduced herself.

"Very nice to meet you." The President returned the smile. "I just wanted to thank you for all the lives you've saved."

"It was an honour, sir." Chase nodded politely.

"Ah, the famous Emilia Hunter." Spotting Emilia, the President approached her.

"That, I am. It's very nice to meet you, sir." She responded politely and shook his hand.

"It's nice to meet you, too." The President nodded his head before bringing up. "Also, I heard about the mission yesterday, and how you screamed to save one of the victims in the fire. That was very impressive." He complimented. "So, I wanted to thank you for saving all those people. But, I heard you got hurt. Are you okay?"

"I'm okay, now. Thank you for asking. And it's no worries, just doing my job." Emilia smiled kindly at the man.

"Okay, team," The President turned back around as Agent Graham announced. "it's time to show our Commander-in-Chief how your bionics work. Bree, you're up."

"Absolutely, Agent Graham." Bree smiled before looking at the President who walked back over to them. "This is my super-speed." The girl super-speeded across the room and circled around the agent, knocking him to the floor.

Emilia and Donald furrowed their brows, seeing this happen. Graham's agents ran over, helping their boss up who glared over at Bree with a whisper. "What is the matter with you?"

"I don't know." Bree feigned confusion before she shrugged. "I guess I've spent so much time being a celebrity, instead of training, that I can't control my bionics."

Emilia tilted her head as she started to figure out what their plan was, unlike Donald. "Bree, would you stop messing around?" He scolded, unaware of them doing it on purpose. "The President is standing right there." He whispered.

Bree shot Donald a look. "I know the President is standing right there." She echoed, and when he finally understood, he nodded. "Ahh." Bree took a glance at Emilia who smiled before winking at her, indicating she knew the plan also.

Agent Graham cleared his throat. "Sorry about that, sir." He apologised to the President before Chase was the next one to speak up.

"Mr President, how about I demonstrate my molecular kinesis?"

The man nodded. "Sure."

Chase turned around before holding out his hand as he activated his molecular kinesis to lift up a smoothie cup. When it was floating above Agent Graham's head, Chase pretended to lose control and spilt the smoothie over the agent's head.

"Oopsie." Chase smiled innocently.

"Graham, what is going on?" The President asked in confusion.

Agent Graham clapped his hands, looking at him with a nervous smile. "It's fine. Everything's fine. Adam, why don't you show the President that thing you do with your breath?"

Adam approached the President before exhaling in his face, causing the man and his bodyguards to grimace in disgust.

"Not that. The big force thing." Graham looked at Adam in annoyance.

"Oh, you mean this." Adam nodded before using his lung capacity to slowly blow the agent across the room.

"Okay, that's enough. Okay, that's enough!" The man yelled and grabbed onto the cyber-desk to stop himself from flying further back.

"His bionic breath must be stuck." Chase feigned wonder.

"Davenport, do something!" Graham yelled.

"Oh, look who finally needs my help!"

"Don't worry, Mr President. I'm sure one of these buttons will take care of everything." The agent reached down to press a button.

"No, no, no!" Donald and Emilia tried to stop the man, but it was too late. The floor had opened up from underneath the President and his security guards, causing them to fall down the hole.

"Uh-oh." Agent Graham gasped, running towards the open floor with the others.

"Get me out of here!"

Donald turned to Graham. "Nice going, Graham. That's one way to get noticed by your boss." He chuckled.

Emilia stood on the other side of the agent with a cup in her hand. "Smoothie?"

โ”€โ”€โ”€ ๏ฝฅ ๏ฝก๏พŸโ˜†: *.โ˜ฝ .* :โ˜†๏พŸ. โ”€โ”€โ”€

After they had rescued the President and his two bodyguards, they walked back into the lab. Agent Graham looked at the man nervously. "So, uh, Mr President, anything else you'd like to see?"

"Yes. Your qualifications for this job." He looked back at his bodyguards. "Call Washington, have them send a replacement for this clown immediately."

"What? No." Agent Graham gasped.

"Uh, Mr President, we have a replacement." Bree interjected, and pointed over at Donald. "Him."

The President furrowed his brows. "The smoothie guy?"

Emilia let out a chuckle at this before Chase had spoke up. "He's not the smoothie guy, he's our father and our real leader." He corrected.

"Agent Graham doesn't care about our missions or helping people. He just wants to make money off of us." Bree informed the President.

Before the President could turn to Agent Graham to respond to that, Emilia opened her mouth and piped up. "He also said that if we didn't behave, he'd make sure we'd end up sitting in cages in a warehouse, like theโ€”" She turned to Graham and smirked. "what was it that you called us? Circus freaks, was it?"

"How did you know I said that?" Graham looked at her. "You weren't even in the room when it happened."

"Well, I was about to ask if it was true or not, but I guess you already answered my question." The President turned to Graham with narrowed eyes.

Agent Graham sighed. "Sir, with all due respect, we can't let a civilian control the world's most powerful weapons."

"Weapons?" The President scoffed before turning to look at the kids. "They're not weapons. They're his children." He looked back at Graham. "You're done, Graham. Get him out of here." His guards grabbed the Agent before dragging him out of the lab.

"Mr Davenport," The President walked towards the man. "the government owes you an apology. We had no right to come between you and your family."

Chase turned to the man. "And Mr President, we owe you an apology, too. Our bionics didn't really glitch. We just had to expose Graham and show you that he wasn't qualified to lead us." The boy explained.

"I figured something was up. I've seen footage of your abilities. They're quite impressive." He told the team before turning back to Donald. "Listen, if you can keep me briefed, I see no reason why you shouldn't resume control here."

Donald shook the President's hand. "Thank you, Mr President."

"Oh, before I leave, I need to do one more thing." The President pulled his phone out before taking a selfie with the team. "Bam! Bionic selfie!" He laughed before clearing his throat. "It's for my daughter."

Once he walked out of the lab, Emilia clapped her hands and giggled. "Group hug time. Oh, come on! We're getting the band back together!" The three siblings laughed as they were pulled into a hug by the girl, glad that they were a proper team again.

"Does that mean you forgive us?" Chase smiled at his girlfriend in hope as they pulled away.

Emilia pretended to be in thought before turning to Chase and kissed him. Once she pulled away, she giggled at the look on his face. "Yes, yes, yes! Now, let's go watch Friends!" The group laughed and quickly changed out of their mission suits before going upstairs to watch FRIENDS.
