CHAPTER TWELVE, lab rats vs mighty med part two

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

"Welcome to Mighty Med," Oliver announced to the bionic heroes, once they finally arrived at the hospital through the wormhole transporter. "the world's best superhero hospital."

Leo took in his surroundings. "First I get to travel through a wormhole, and now I'm in a superhero hospital? This is the best day ever." The boy wore a smile on his face, looking thrilled to be standing in a hospital full of superheroes, that he's already forgotten the reason why they're there in the first place.

Bree pulled a face at his words. The fact that they were in a superhero hospital may be slightly cool, however, that wasn't the most important thing at that moment. "If you don't count the part where Emilia's unconscious and our brother got blasted and is about to die."

"Wow. You really know how to ruin a guy's day."

"Here. Put them over here." Oliver led Adam and Bree over to two empty beds nearby, where they can carefully lay Chase and Emilia down.

Since Emilia didn't get blasted like Chase, the girl didn't need as much medical care as he did, so he was their focus at that moment. She should wake up soon anyway, but they're still gonna check up on her. Kaz quickly spotted his boss coming over, and stopped him. "Horace, Chase was blasted by the Incapacitator. He needs immediate medical attention."

"Oh no, not Chase. This is terrible!" Horace acted like he was panicking, before looking back at Kaz in confusion. "Who's Chase?"

Oliver raised Chase's arm. "Him."

Horace walked over to the bed, before putting out his hand for him to shake. "Nice to meet you." He greeted Chase. Bear in mind, he was unconscious on the bed, so obviously, Chase couldn't respond to Horace, who faced Kaz. "He's not very friendly, is he?" He rubbed his hands together, turning to the group. "So, what type of superhero is Chase, other than an impolite one?"

"No, no, he's not a superhero." Bree stated. "He's a human with a bionic chip that gives him super-abilities."

"Except for the ability to say hello." Adam looked over at his unconscious brother. "Chase, you're embarrassing us."

"And who's she?" Horace brought their attention to Emilia on the bed beside Chase.

"Emilia. She is Chase's girlfriend, and got injured during the blast." Bree informed him, and Oliver nodded along. "I'll keep an eye on her injury, but she should be okay." He added.

Skylar Storm, Kaz and Oliver's friend, and a well-known superhero in their world, approached the team, obviously not recognising the bionic super-humans that stood with the boys. "What's going on? Who are these people?"

"I'll explain later," Kaz quickly waved the girl off, considering he didn't have the time to explain all of it to Skylar now. "but the short version is," He pointed to each of them, starting with Leo as he listed, "bionic arm, super strength, super fast and super unconscious."

"Can you help him?" Leo asked Horace.

"Don't worry." Horace said to start with, feigning a smile as he reassured. "I have everything under control. Chase will be perfectly fine. Kaz, Oliver, come with me." He led them away from everyone else, just enough distance between them, so they remained out of ear shot. "I have a conference to attend, but I'll brief you on what to do next."

After hearing his words, Oliver felt glad. "Horace, I'm so relieved you know how to cure Chase."

"Ah, me too. But, there is one minor issue. I don't know how to cure Chase." The doctor admitted to the boys.

Kaz and Oliver turned around to look at the man, who had approached another bed — where one of the superheroes laid on. "What?"

"I'm sorry, but I've never seen biotechnology like that before." Horace explained, apologising to the two, knowing that's not what they wanted to hear right now.

"Then why'd you say you could cure him?"

"It's so much easier than telling people you can't cure them." Horace shrugged at them, before he turned around to look at the patient that laid on the bed. "Good news, I can cure you!" He glanced back at Kaz and Oliver, mouthing, "No."

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

Kaz pulled Oliver back to face him again. "This is bad." He began, feeling worried. "We insisted we bring Chase here, we promised he'd be fine."

"If Horace can't cure him, we'll just have to figure out a way to do it ourselves." Oliver mentioned to his best friend, speaking in a calmer tone. "In the meantime, just pretend everything's fine. Act confident."

"Okay." Kaz nodded, before they both turned and puffed their chests out as they returned to where the team was standing, surprisingly believing the boys' act of confidence when Leo nodded. "Wow. These guys seem really confident." He pointed out.

"Thank you for bringing us here, helping Em and finding a cure for Chase." Adam spoke genuinely, hoping Emilia and Chase will be okay by the end of the day. "I have to admit, I had my doubts."

Bree scoffed out a chuckle, and put a hand to her heart when she glanced up at her brother. "Well, I never doubted Oliver for a second. He has such a trustworthy face. Just look at it." The smile on her face widened, everyone following her gaze to see Oliver wrinkling his face, reacting to the fruit he just ate. "This orange is really sour."

"Awwww." The bright smile remained on her face as she moved past Kaz and Skylar to stand beside Oliver and pinched the boy's cheeks. "Look at his weird, cute, twisted face."

Skylar had her arms crossed over her chest, when she asked Kaz. "Uh, what's with that?" It was like she was jealous.

"Oh, she has a crush on Oliver. I'll explain later." Kaz explained, with his brows furrowed slightly. Bree, or any girl in fact, having a crush on Oliver felt strange to him somehow. "Although, there really is no logical explanation."

"Listen, we need to stop the Incapacitator." Leo brought up the subject. "How long until Chase is good to go?"

"Ah... you know uh, I really wouldn't wait around for Chase." Kaz awkwardly chuckled. Neither him or Oliver still didn't know how to tell the bionic-superhumans that Horace had no idea on how to help Chase.

"Yeah," Oliver nodded, "I think some of us should focus on stopping the Incapacitator, and some of us should stay here with Emilia and Chase — who will be fine. I'm fully confident." He said, puffing his chest out once again, to appear certain.

"Well, you do look confident, so okay."

"All right, Leo, you and Kaz stay behind with Em and Chase," Bree instructed, before facing Oliver with a beaming grin on her face, "and I'll go with Oliver, because he is cute."

"So are you." Oliver said, and Bree giggled, before Skylar suddenly popped up, standing in between the pair as she volunteered herself to join the two on the mission. "I'll come too."

"Okay." Kaz interjected, noticing the jealous-like behaviour coming from the young hero. "Skylar will go with you guys, and Adam will stay with us."

"Ah, cool. What's this thing do?" Adam wondered as they were walking off, referring to the hammer he had picked up.

"Oh, that's a reflex hammer." Oliver explained to him, Adam humming in reply, before throwing it behind him, making the reflex hammer hit one of the superheroes — lizard guy, on the head and he fell to the floor. "Wow." Adam looked impressed at that. "He's got great reflexes."

"Okay, new plan." Kaz called, looking towards the others. "Adam's on your team."

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

After being separated from Oliver and the others, Kaz and Leo both managed to bring the beds that Emilia and Chase were lying unconscious on, in a smaller room, away from everyone else. Not long after that, Emilia had finally woken up, with Kaz making sure to check on her injury before either him or Leo had to explain everything. Especially knowing that, as soon as she remembered what happened back at the academy, Emilia was going to ask about Chase, and whether or not he would be okay. And once that was all over with, Leo had made sure to introduce his best friend and Kaz to one another, since she had only seen the boy and Oliver once at the academy — and that was right before the Incapacitator blasted Chase.

Emilia situated herself on the end of Chase's bed, careful not to hurt him, as she kept her soft hand on his leg, wanting nothing but for her boyfriend to open his eyes. From his spot on the other side of the bed, Leo watched Kaz pace with wondering eyes. "So, aren't you gonna do something to help Chase?"

"Yeah, um," Kaz trailed off, looking nervous as he searched for an answer to give that could possibly make sense, wanting to continue to hide the fact that he was clueless on what he was supposed to be doing. "I just have to give him a urine test." He stepped closer to the bed and looked down at the still unresponsive bionic super-human. "Chase... you're in what hospital right now?" Obviously, he failed to respond, making Kaz look between the other two with a wince. "He failed his urine test."

The banshee stared up at him. "You have no idea what you're doing, do you?" She asked, trying her best to stay calm.

Kaz stammered, walking over to stand at the end of the bed as Leo followed him. "Before I answer that question, uh, do one of you have any bionic ability to tell when someone's lying?" The human smiled nervously as Emilia stood up from the bed at his words and faced him with her arms crossed over her chest like she was observing him.

"No." Leo shook his head.

"Then I know exactly what I'm doing." He played it off smoothly— well tried to, lying to them again about knowing how to help, believing they would not be able to tell, because Leo confirmed neither him or Emilia had a bionic ability that detects a lie is told.

"You're lying."

"So you do have a bionic lie-detecting ability."

"No." Emilia looked at Kaz exasperated, after the raven-haired boy accused them of lying. "We are just not stupid." She deadpanned.

"Chase needs help now." Leo moved back over to stand next to the bed, and Kaz followed. "But the only person smart enough to figure out how to cure Chase is Chase." He pointed out, and Emilia tilted her head in agreement. The girl may also be smart, however, she's definitely not Chase smart.

Kaz then pulled a face all of a sudden. "Hold on a second. You just gave me an idea." Leo made him realise something, before getting Emilia and Leo to help him push Chase back outside, to return to the Mighty Med ER, where he wheeled a machine over to them. "This is a neurotic physiolomogra... physiologr... it's a brain-switching machine." Kaz gave up on trying to pronounce the medical term correctly. "We also use it to slice deli meat."

"You're gonna transfer Chase's brain into yours, cure Chase, then make a sandwich?" The Dooley boy recapped Kaz's plan, gesturing to himself as he mentioned. "'Cause I'm starving."

Normally, Emilia would've scolded him, but to be honest, she was growing hungry herself. Kaz now stood at the side of Chase's bed, with the machine by his side, wrapping a headband around his and Chase's head. He spun around at Leo's words, to make sure to explain his plan. "No, I'm not taking his entire brain. Just his coj-nitive... conga-nit... his smarty bits." He then pressed a button on the machine, causing energy to flow between the two boys as their intelligence switched.

Chase's body shook from the surrounded energy, until Kaz clicked the button again, which stopped the process. "Did it work?" Emilia asked, keeping her hand on top of Chase's.

"The only way to know conclusively would have been if we measured my baseline intelligence level before the transfer. But based on my use of the phrase 'baseline intelligence level', yeah, I'd say it worked."

"So now you can cure Chase." Leo's words caused a small, but soft smile to graze across the Hunter girl's lips, and his. The moment of relief would be now — but it wasn't over yet.

"Yes, but more importantly," Kaz began, bending down to grab something off the shelf underneath the machine, and came back up with a plate that was stacked with two different meats, turkey and roast beef. "Turkey or Roast Beef?"

"Dude!" Leo exclaimed, like he was about to scold Kaz for his actions, and his version of the priority on the matter. But he didn't. "Obviously, roast beef."

"Emilia?" The banshee flickered her eyes towards Kaz, who had called her name. The boy motioned to the tray of meats with his eyes. Emilia let out a puff of air, her eyes narrowing slightly, giving her time to decide. "Turkey." She muttered, just loud enough for Kaz to hear, and looked back down at her boyfriend on the bed.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

"Have you figured out the problem?" Leo raised a brow towards Kaz, asking for an update on Chase while the three of them began to eat the sandwich in their hands.

"Yes." Kaz nodded at him, before he then held up his sandwich that he held. "This sandwich needs more mayonnaise." He made a comment, earning Emilia to whip her head over to him. "Kaz, focus please." She hissed at him. She admitted the food was good, but there were more important things going on. Thankfully, Kaz listened, and continued on to explain to the bionic super-humans. "Also, it seems that Chase's chip was destabilised by an excess of negative ionization. But, we should be able to cure him with positive electrostatic pulse. Okay, stand back."

Emilia and Leo did as Kaz said, watching him use the tools to shock Chase, and fortunately, the boy woke up with a jolt. There it was. Relief. They felt the corners of their lips stretch into a smile after seeing Chase open his eyes. Emilia instantly went to sit on the end of the bed, gently placing a hand on his leg. The confused boy was looking around the room, taking in his surroundings, wondering where he must be, until his eyes met Emilia's and she spoke first. "Hi."

"You did it. It worked." Leo's eyes widened at the scene, and Emilia glanced back at him, assuming he was talking about Chase. His eyes fell down to the sandwich in one hand, and the bottle of mayo in the other. "This sandwich is much better with mayonnaise." Emilia rolled her eyes. Of course he was talking about that freaking sandwich. Upon noticing the glare Emilia held in her eyes, he was quick to add on, directing his eyes over to the boy on the bed with an innocent grin. "Oh, and Chase is cured."

"Hey, look!" Emilia turned her head back around, hearing Chase's voice. He wore a disposable glove on his head, grinning towards Emilia. "Check me out, babe. I'm a rooster!" His face dropped after a moment, and he instantly pulled the disposable glove off his head. "What is wrong with me?!"

Leo came round the other side of the bed, looking down at the Davenport boy as Emilia stood up to be next to Chase. "You were badly injured, so we had to temporarily switch your intelligence with Kaz's so that he could figure out how to cure you."

"I have Kaz's intelligence?" Chase looked like he didn't believe a word Leo just said. "I don't want to be... what's the word?" He seemed like he was struggling to even figure that out. The frustration in him rose, causing him to pull on Leo's hoodie and carried on. "I can't think of the word." Chase put both hands on either side of his head, tugging on his hair. "My thinking place hurts!"

"Okay, Chase—" Emilia was about to try and calm him down, and removed his hands away from his head, when all of a sudden, his watch beeped and everyone turned their attention towards it, with their eyes full of alarm. "What's happening?" She panicked as Kaz pushed Leo aside so he was able to check it out.

As soon as Emilia spotted Kaz's reaction to it, she got up from the bed to follow him and Leo — who was brought further away from Chase so Kaz was able to explain with caution. "Chase's injury has created a hardware virus in his chip. It's causing the chip to generate protonic energy. He's stable for now, but if his blood pressure gets too high, he'll explode."

"Wait, what?—"

Leo interjected. "We cannot let him know that, or his blood pressure will skyrocket." He stated, and Emilia took a deep breath. "We need to keep him calm." Ya think?

Albeit, they were too late for that, as once he said that, the emergency alarm blared in the hospital, making Chase's blood pressure increase. "Is that an alarm?! Are we under attack?!?! What's going on?!"

The superheroes rushed out the room as a group of people in hazmat suits ran in, being followed by the main doctor, Horace, who stopped by the teenagers. "Don't worry, it's only a drill." He tried to reassure them, as Emilia stood by Chase to try and calm him down.

"A drill for what?" Leo asked.

"To test how panicky everyone gets when I set off a terrifying loud alarm." Horace answered him as Chase started to hyperventilate. He wasn't really helping their situation, was he? "You passed the test." He stated towards Chase. "You also passed the urine test. You're in a state of panic."

Chase fell back on the bed, Kaz and Leo standing behind him, as Emilia stood in front of him. She leaned closer to him, trying to bring his attention to her as he carried on hyperventilating.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

"What are you doing?" Emilia mumbled. She was currently snuggled up next to Chase on the bed as they waited for Kaz and Leo to return to the room from wherever they had gone. She watched Chase scroll through his phone, in a much more relaxed manner — thanks to Emilia.

As Chase was about to respond, the door opened, and Leo came in, holding a cup of tea with Kaz in tow. "Hey, buddy." Leo plastered on a smile when Chase looked his way, speaking in a calm tone to prevent anything that might make Chase's blood pressure go off the charts. He stopped by the bed, ignoring the look Emilia was giving him. "I know being in a strange place can make you tense, so I brought you some herbal tea."

Kaz joined in, quickly moving Leo aside. "And I thought it would help to listen to some relaxing whale songs." He opened his mouth and imitated the sound of a whale, thinking it would help, but he was wrong.

"Stop!" Emilia and Leo interrupted him, causing his terrible imitation of a whale to end. Thank goodness.

Kaz huffed, flickering his eyes between them. "I didn't even get to the chorus."

Emilia pursed her lips at him before directing her eyes down to Chase's phone that just chimed. The Davenport boy read the message from his brother and he widened his eyes slightly. "I just got a text from Adam." He tapped Emilia's side to signal for her to get off the bed, him following. "Those guys are on their way to fight the Incapacitator in Las Vegas. We have to go help them."

"No, we can't." Leo immediately objected, putting the cup of tea down on the table at the end of the bed. It was very obvious they were trying to avoid any situations that could increase Chase's blood pressure. "Fighting is stressful, and you can't be stressed out right now."

Emilia nodded. Still absolutely clueless about the virus inside of him, Chase ignored his protest and stated firmly. "Adam and Bree are in danger, and I'm gonna go help them." He barged past the two boys and rushed out the door.

"Wa— Chase!" Emilia ran after him, with Kaz and Leo behind her. As they reached the hallway, they seemed to have lost him, making them all stop in their tracks.

"Now what?"

"Okay, you two go find Chase, and uh, I'll get the invisible ambulance to take us to Las Vegas." Kaz instructed the both of them. "But, it might take a while. I forgot where it's parked. And it's invisible."

Emilia and Leo looked bemused, before the latter was the first to set off down the hallway. But, Leo didn't manage to get very far, when he appeared to have smacked into something, and he dropped to the ground. "Oh, good. You found it." Kaz had pointed out through a laugh.

"Boy, am I glad he ran off first." Emilia looked to be relieved and amused at the same time.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

As soon as the boys and Emilia arrived at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas, they spotted the Incapacitator looking down at Skylar on the floor, bracing herself for what the villain was about to give her. "Goodbye, Skylar Storm."

Before the man could even make his next move, a powerful wail passed by, hitting the villain on the back, sending him flying and he hit the barrier of the tower. Kaz followed Chase out of the invisible ambulance, finally pulling his fingers out his ears with a smile. "That was awesome!" Although, the boy was glad Emilia had warned him beforehand.

Chase closed the ambulance door, before running towards everyone with Emilia and Leo to join the fight, as the Incapacitator was back on his feet by then. Whereas, Kaz stayed back with Oliver, who had his hands pressed against his ears. "Oh yeah. Emilia's also a banshee." The raven-haired boy chuckled.

Oliver merely nodded. Pushing aside the fact that the ear-pitching sound had the ability of affecting people's ears, he seemed just as impressed as Kaz was, with Emilia's abilities. Darting his eyes back towards the fight, he remembered noticing Chase joining the fight. "Kaz, you cured Chase!"

Kaz winced, tilting his head. "Eh, not really. Uhh, he's gonna blow up." He revealed to the boy, who whipped his head over to Kaz at that new piece of information. The battle continued with the one of the villain's clones tackling Chase and Adam to the ground. "He has a hardware virus that's building up energy in his bionic chip. If his blood pressure gets too high, he'll explode."

"Wait a second." Oliver suddenly had an idea. "If Chase has a hardware virus, those can be—"

"transferred to another device. I'm way ahead of you." Kaz finished off. His sudden knowledge of this baffled Oliver. "I'm super smart now, uh, I'll explain later."

The heroes all suddenly fell to the floor in front of Oliver and Kaz. Emilia groaned in pain, glancing back at the Incapacitator and his two clones with a glare. "Not cool, dudes."

"I hope you're all ready to be destroyed." The one in the middle threatened. The Incapacitator wore a smirk on his face, with his clones mimicking his actions.

"I have a plan." Kaz called, and flickered his eyes down to Chase. "Chase, jump off the tower."

"Do you maybe have a different plan?" The bionic super-human questioned, with a bewildered look on his face, as did Emilia.

Kaz ignored him though and continued with what he was doing. "You have protonic energy building up in your bionic chip. You can't let him absorb it or he'll be unstoppable." The boy blurted out on purpose.

The Incapacitator arched his brows and his smirk widened at Kaz's words. "He has protonic energy in him? I'll take that, thank you very much." The man held out his arm towards Chase and started to drain energy from the Davenport boy.

"What's he doing to Chase?" Bree worried for her brother, sharing a panicked expression with the Hunter girl. She absolutely did not like what she was seeing, but she hoped whatever Kaz planned, would succeed. After all, she remembered the boy still had Chase's intelligence.

As Chase fell back on the ground when the villain finished his job, Kaz waved her off, satisfied with his successful plan. "Chase is fine." He reassured the team. "All the Incapacitator did was remove the virus." Phew.

"Virus? What virus?"

"You know," Kaz began, feeling smug about what had happened. "the one that makes you explode if your blood pressure gets excessively high. Like if you realise that some kid in high school just tricked you and ruined your entire plan."

"What?!"

"Yeah, like that." Kaz nodded, noticing the villain about to throw a tantrum. "Everybody duck!" The boy warned, and they all followed his instruction. Chase instantly grabbed Emilia and hovered over her, shielding her from the upcoming explosion as the Incapacitator glowed and screamed loudly in pain, until there was nothing left of him or his clones — and due of this, the power in Las Vegas was finally restored.

Slowly, everyone started to move once they knew it was safe to do so. Chase got off Emilia to stand up before he turned to his girlfriend and offered his hand to help her off the floor. "You okay?" He asked her, receiving a look in return.

Emilia chuckled softly. "Shouldn't I be asking you that, considering you almost could've been blown up, today?" She raised a brow at him, as her arms wrapped around his waist, clinging onto his back.

He leaned down to kiss her on the lips, chuckling lightly as he pulled away. "True. But, it wasn't my fault. They were stressing me out." He whispered, making her giggle.

"You did it. It worked." At Leo's voice, the couple turned their heads towards him, the Dooley boy smiling at Kaz.

"Did you ever doubt me?" The raven-haired teen grinned.

Leo nodded. "Yeah, ever since the urine test." He deadpanned.

"Wait. Adam's missing." Chase started to panic as soon as he noticed his brother lacked presence on the tower. "Where's Adam?" They looked around, their eyes scanning the area for the bionic super-human, who was currently hiding behind a piece of scaffolding, now dressed in a red and white t-shirt and circle black-rimmed glasses.

Emilia furrowed her brows, clearing her throat as she managed to spot the bionic sweetheart slowly pop up from the piece of scaffolding that he was hiding behind. "Umm... guys." She gestured over in Adam's direction, and everyone turned to see what she was looking at.

"There he is."

Adam clicked his tongue. "Oh, man. I'm falafel at hiding." He sighed in disappointment.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

Back at the Mighty Med Hospital, the team stood around Chase and Kaz, who were both hooked up to the machine that Kaz used earlier to switch his and Chase's intelligence. Once Horace clicked the button, Chase eagerly turned to the doctor. "Did it work? Please tell me our intelligence switched back. Please!" He begged, clearly desperate.

Before Horace could answer, a chuckle was heard from behind Chase, making everyone turn to see Kaz holding a blown-up disposable glove in his hands. "Check it out. I'm a dairy cow." He spoke, playing with the glove.

"It worked." Emilia nodded, stifling a laugh at his actions before she helped take Chase's headband off his head.

"Oliver, Kaz, congratulations." The doctor moved past the couple to put his hand out and shake his employees' hands. "Well done." He turned to face Chase, gesturing to Oliver and Kaz. "See? That's how you respond to an offer of a handshake. Not like this." He imitated Chase being unconscious, referring to when he first saw him, not long after they arrived at Mighty Med. Again, the boy was unresponsive.

As Bree managed to catch Skylar before she could leave, the two of them exchanged in conversation while Emilia and the boys talked with Oliver. Kaz was still too focused on the blown-up glove in his hand, and giggled when it deflated and flew away from him.

Oliver walked away, only to be pulled to the side by Bree, who wanted to talk to him as well. Once their conversation ended, Bree made her way to the buggy that Leo was already sat in, waiting for them. "Come on then, rooster." Emilia patted her boyfriend on the shoulder, indicating for him to follow her to the buggy.

"Huh?" Chase looked confused for a second after hearing the nickname, making her laugh. They've got a different buggy, just big enough so it could fit five people on — two at the front, three at the back.

"Bye, guys." Adam stood by the doors, and waved goodbye to Oliver, Kaz and Skylar. A sigh escaped his lips, apologising, "Sorry for breaking so much of your stuff." He turned around and broke apart the doors.

Oliver closed his eyes and pursed his lips at what just happened. "The doors open automatically..."

Adam looked back at them, chuckling to himself as he waved the smoke away. "Not anymore."

"Adam, let's go." Emilia beckoned him back over to the buggy so they could leave. He stepped over the bar, and sat down in between Chase and Leo, leaving the girls in front as they super-speeded away just before Horace walked in.

He looked around the room, seeing that the team of bionic super-humans weren't there. "Where'd your friends go?"

"Oh, they left." Oliver replied, motioning towards the now broken doors.

"Without saying goodbye?" Horace raised a brow in disbelief, and scoffed. "What, were they raised in a basement?"
