CHAPTER SEVENTY-NINE, mission mania

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

Another day. Another rescue mission. The two speedsters from the bionic team had just returned after getting everyone away from the wildfire.

"All right. That's the last few. Everybody's safe, including one very ungrateful grizzly." Bree announced to the team just as the bear growled from behind.

"Oh, shut it!" Emilia snapped before walking over to the group with Bree.

Chase smiled. "The Fire Department can handle things from here. Great work, guys." At that, the rescued civilians began to cheer for the bionic heroes before surrounding them, asking for autographs or proposing an interview.

After giving someone an autograph, Adam turned to his team members, sighing in relief. "Ah, life is so much better now we don't have to keep our missions a secret."

"I know. Now people can tell us how great we are right to our faces." Leo chimed in. Although, the smile was quick to fall from his face after listening to the rescued civilians chant their names, though excluding him. "Are you kidding me? I've been going on missions for over a month. How can these people not know my name?"

"Well, maybe you should change it to something people won't forget, like uh, Gregorio Spiridakis or Pickles O'Malley." Adam suggested, earning a strange look from Leo.

Emilia grinned before raising her hand in the air slightly. "I vote Pickles!"

"See?" Adam gestured towards his sister figure with a grateful smile. "Emmy understands me."

The Dooley boy rolled his eyes at the two before moving to stand in front of his team. "Can I have your attention, please?" He asked, wanting to announce something to the civilians. "I'd like to point out that Adam, Bree, Chase and Emilia weren't the only heroes. I personally saved six people."

"Adam, Bree, Chase, Emilia and that guy!" They all started to chant continuously until Leo spoke up again. "All right, the six I saved, back in the fire."

Fifteen straight missions and neither one of them was a real emergency, as Chase reminded them all as soon as they returned back to the mentor headquarters, with Emilia flopping straight onto the couch with a dramatic cry.

"What a waste of my immense talent and unique skill set!" Chase groaned, dramatically dropping his bag to the floor.

Bree scoffed in annoyance. "Yeah. I don't know which mission was more annoying, the lady who ran out of gas or the guy who didn't know which side dish to order."

"Both!" Emilia called out, her voice muffled as her face was planted on the couch.

"I do. The lady who ran out of gas. I had to watch her push her car for two miles." Adam pointed out.

Reacting differently, Leo told the group. "Guys, I feel proud to spend time with our adoring public. Now if you'll excuse me, America's newest bionic hero is about to get busy with some baby grapes."

"I don't get it. How did all those people know how to contact us?" Bree questioned, wearing a confused expression.

Chase approached the couch as Emilia sat herself up so Chase could sit down. Although, she just ended up sitting on his lap anyway.

Adam sighed. "It's easy. You just touch a bunch of numbers until someone says hello."

Emilia shook her head before glancing around in front of her until her eyes stopped on something by Leo's bag. Intrigued, she leaned forward slightly to grab the small piece of card to take a closer look at it.

"What is it, Bub?" Chase asked as Emilia moved the card so the three siblings could follow her gaze, only to see a business card that Leo had made which immediately gave them the answer as to why they got so many non-real emergency alerts.

Bree took the business card out of Emilia's hand and scoffed in annoyance. "How could he do that?"

Adam shrugged. "Well, there's a printer, there's a copy shop. A ton of places online."

"I mean..." Emilia trailed off. "technically he did answer your question. It's just not what we were looking for."

Leo finally returned with his tablet in one hand and the grapes in the other. He sat down in a comfortable position on one of the chairs with a relaxed sigh. "Ah, the life of a bionic hero. Am I right, people?"

"Yeah." Bree chuckled sarcastically, and followed the other's footsteps as they all stood around the Dooley boy. "Nothing says bionic hero like cheap business cards."

"They had to be cheap. How else was I supposed to afford 10,000 of them?" Leo rhetorically asked making Emilia start to step forward with a glare on her face, only for Chase to hold her back.

"Why would you do this?" Chase questioned.

"I just wanted people to know I was part of the team." Leo admitted through a sigh before looking back at his tablet.

"Wait. Did they airbrush your biceps?"

"No." Leo looked up at Bree at her question, a smile making it's way onto his face as he corrected. "I did."

"This was a terrible idea, Leo!" Chase threw his arms up in the air to show his frustration.

"Relax. It's just a few little business cards." Leo tried to tell him before something on his tablet caught his attention, making him gasp. "Look! My commercial's on."

"Hello. My name is Leo Dooley. Are you the victim of an accident or terrible disaster? If so, great. I can help."

"That's me." Leo nudged Emilia slightly with his elbow, the grin never leaving his face. "I'm Leo Dooley."

"My bionic team can solve any life-threatening situation. And remember the Leo Dooley promise. If I don't save your life, your next mission is free. Call now."

"Leo, I can't believe you did that." Bree groaned in annoyance, sharing the same expression as Emilia.

"I can't believe no one told me we were charging for missions." Adam looked rather annoyed at that. "Where's my cut?"

"We don't charge for missions." Chase told his brother before turning to his girlfriend beside him, adding. "Do we?"

"No, you big weirdo!" Emilia reminded the boy before whacking him softly on the arm.

"Leo, that is not cool." Chase scolded.

Leo stood up to his feet. "Relax. It's just one little commercial and it's only run once." He said to try and reassure them until the Spanish version of his commercial popped up on his tablet which was thrown to the floor a second later.

Thanks to Leo and his new promo, the team had started to receive mission alerts from all across the country with no way of telling them which one was a legitimate mission.

Due to not being able to handle them all, Chase had made a decision for them to let the local authorities handle the ones they were going to ignore. Although Leo disagreed and went off to Highland Hills by himself due to not wanting to let the people down who have watched his commercial.

Adam and Chase walked into the common area in their mission suits. "I am done racing all over the country for meaningless missions." The latter of the two groaned in annoyance.

Adam chimed in with his own groan. "And I'm done explaining to people why I'm not the Spanish kid in the commercial."

Upon seeing the monitor screen, Chase sighed through his frustration. "Are you kidding me? More alerts?"

Spin turned to his mentors, informing. "We're answering as many as we can."

Chase turned to his brother. "Come on, Adam. We better go tell Lia and Bree to grab some more gear before we head back out."

Due to Adam being stopped by Bob, Chase then rushed back to the mentors headquarters alone to help the girls grab more gear.

Just as the three were heading out, Emilia's feet stopped in place, a gasp leaving her lips as her normal blue eyes glowed brighter. At the mention of someone's name leaving her mouth, that snapped her out of her trance and instantly super speeded out of the room with Chase and Bree following in concern.

The two siblings arrived in the common area just in time to see Emilia whacking Adam, soon stopped as Chase pulled her back, furrowing his brows in question.

"What's going on?" He asked, looking between his brother and girlfriend.

Emilia sighed. "Adam put Leo on hold who rang the emergency line. He's in deep trouble and we need to leave."

"But, can I just deal with this emer—" Adam went to say, gesturing to his com-set. Only to be interrupted by Emilia grabbing him by the ear, making him drop the com-set as he was pulled towards the hydraloop.

"See you later, kids!"

"Help!" Leo instantly screamed once again after seeing the rest of his bionic team open the door to the roof of the building he was hanging off of, along with a helicopter full of people.

Chase turned to his brother, instructing. "Adam, you get Leo. I'll stabilise the helicopter."

Adam did as Chase said and managed to pull Leo away from the helicopter while Chase kept it stabilised with his molecular kinesis.

"Emilia and Bree, get the passengers." Chase told the girls who were at the helicopter in an instant, using their super speed to take the civilians out of the helicopter and to a safe area.

"That's everyone. Let me make sure no one's left in there." Emilia said, super speeding back to the helicopter just as Chase warned. "No Lia, don't! It's about to go over."

"I can't move! My suit is stuck. Help!" They all froze at Emilia's scream for help. Just as the helicopter began to topple over, they all ran forward, Leo being the quickest as he leant over the edge of the roof just as the helicopter and Emilia were out of their sight.

But not Leo's.

Using all the strength he had with his bionic arm that Emilia had a grip on, Leo pulled his best friend up to safety and back onto the roof where she was soon engulfed by Chase who sighed in relief.

"Nice work, Leo." Adam patted the Dooley boy on the back, praising his action.

"What about the helicopter?" Bree's question made them all run to look over the edge of the roof in time to see the helicopter exploding into flames.

"Yeah... that's never gonna fly again." Adam winced before they all backed away from the edge at the change in subject.

"Great work, guys."

Emilia slapped her hand on Leo's back, smiling gratefully. "Yeah, especially you Pickles. I owe you one."

"Number one, don't call me that ever again. And two, well... I am a hero." The Dooley boy spoke proudly.

Emilia smirked. "Don't push it, Pickles."

"You're welcome." Leo responded instantly which made Emilia laugh before she wrapped her arm around his shoulders, pulling him into a side hug.

"Hey, Leo, looks like everyone's gonna know your name now. That news crew filmed the whole thing." Chase pointed out.

Leo waved them off. "Who cares?"

"Who cares?" Bree questioned, following behind the Dooley boy in question. "All you've wanted this whole time is for people to know your name."

"Yeah, well... I did some thinking while I was on hold for 20 minutes. You don't go on missions for the fame. You go to save lives."

"Um Leo," Chase piped up, grabbing his attention as he continued. "you do realise there's a 40-foot billboard on that building with your face on it."

Leo followed their gazes. "Oh... They told me that wouldn't be ready for another two weeks."
