CHAPTER THREE, left behind

"Here you go, guys. Protein recovery bars." Chase said as he passed a protein bar to each of the bionic students.
"Ugh, again." Bob groaned before he could even pass one to him.
"Yes, again." Chase repeated, wearing an irritated expression. "Would you like to complain more about the free food, Bob?" He briefly glanced at the protein bar box before continuing as he explained to the blonde. "Mr. Davenport made them to maximise our workouts. They have everything the body needs."
"Yeah, and they make you puke." Spin chimed in as he approached the mentor. "I'm gonna hold out until the 3:00 peanuts." He put his protein bar in the box before walking away.
"Luckily for me, I'm bionic, so I don't have a gag reflex." Adam pointed out, going to put the protein bar in his mouth when Bree threw her arm up in the air, grabbing his attention as she corrected. "We're all bionic, and yes, you do."
"No, I don't." Adam muffled out a response due to the protein bar before letting out a gag and spitting it out onto the ground. "Oh! Yes, I do."
Emilia shook her head, pulling a face of disgust when Spin caught her attention as Leo approached the table in front of them, holding a box in his arms. "Ooh, what's that?"
Leo sat himself down on a chair, placing the box on the table at his answer. "Oh, this? It's just a little care package my mom sent down for all of us." He juttered his bottom lip, turning the box around to correct himself. "Oh, wait. Nope, it's just for me."
"Really, Leo?" Emilia raised a brow at her friend who simply shrugged before a loud squirting sound came from the other side of the room making them turn to see Bob holding a ketchup bottle, squirting it onto his protein bar.
Upon noticing the stares, Bob placed the ketchup bottle down onto the table while explaining. "Oh, it's easier for me to swallow if I pretend it's a hamburger. Which is tough, because I don't even know what a hamburger is."
Bree stepped forward towards the blonde at this, furrowing her brows in question. "Wait, you've never had a hamburger?"
"What? That's so sad." Emilia chimed in with her own frown, making Bree nod along. Bob looked between the two mentors with his arms held out the sides through his question. "You wanna cheer me up by giving me a hug?"
"That's so sad." Bree repeated what Emilia said, politely denying Bob's request. The brown haired girl shook her head as she turned on her heel before approaching her siblings and Emilia to point out. "Guys. These kids have no social skills because they've been completely isolated from the real world. They have no idea what it's like to be normal."
"Ah, yes." Leo grinned, standing up to his feet as he moved over to stand beside Bree, continuing his point. "I remember your first days out of the lab. So young, so naive. You needed a strong hand to guide you."
"Yeah. Thank God for Emilia." Bree nodded, fist bumping the Hunter who laughed upon seeing the look on Leo's face. The banshee then sighed, bringing back the previous topic as she gestured to Bree. "Anyway, Bree's right. These kids deserve a taste of the real world."
Leo looked at the Hunter girl. "Well, I just got some food from the real world." He pointed out, lifting the lid off to his peanut butter jar, before turning around. "You guys are welcome to... No, it's just for me."
A sudden gust of wind flew past them and Leo's peanut butter jar had vanished from his grip. His brows furrowed slightly, doing a double take as he asked. "What was that?"
"No idea." Spin answered, grinning at the group who turned to him in surprise, the mentors filled with amusement at the peanut butter prints on Spin's face, indicating the boy had stole Leo's peanut butter jar.
Their facial expressions changed as they moved their gazes to Bob, staring at him with a confused look as they watched him scoop up some peanut butter off Spin's face with his protein bar before taking a bite out of it. "Mm. Better."
โโโ ๏ฝฅ ๏ฝก๏พโ: *.โฝ .* :โ๏พ. โโโ
"Hey, Mr. Davenport." Chase said, approaching the man with the other mentors behind him. "We were just talking and we wanna take the students on a field trip."
"Great. Where you wanna take 'em? Uh, living quarters? The kitchen? That rock on the other side of the island?" Donald questioned, smiling at the teens as he walked past, knowing exactly what they were offering.
"Come on, you know what we mean." Bree sighed as she turned around to face the man who scoffed in response. "Forget it. They're not ready to socialise with the general population yet."
Chase held his arms out to the side, gesturing to his brother. "Well, yeah, but neither is Adam, but we still let him out of his cage."
"Stop talking about me like I'm an animal." Adam told Chase before turning away from him. "Hey, I'm hungry. Is it almost feeding time?"
"Here. Snack on these." Emilia said, handing him a packet of skittles, making Adam smile as he took them from her hands. "Yay, rainbow snacks!"
Emilia shook her head, her lips tugged up into a small smile as she turned away from the boy when Bree spoke up to ask Donald. "What is the big deal? It's not like these kids are a secret. The whole world knows they exist."
"Look, I told the President we would turn them into the next generation of bionic heroes. We can't take any chances until their training is complete." Donald explained.
"But shouldn't their training include real-world experiences?" Chase pointed out. "I mean, if you hadn't let us go to Mission Creek High, we'd still be clueless shut-ins."
"Look at us now," Adam started, still munching on the skittles as he continued. "living isolated on a remote island; we've come so far."
Donald sighed. "Look, Emilia and I built this academy to be a protected environment. They make mistakes here, there's no serious consequences."
"What are you so worried is gonna happen?" Bree threw her arms out the sides through her question.
"Well, I seem to remember a few incidents when you three hit the real world." Donald reminded the three bionic siblings. "You set a dingo on fire, you got in a wrestling match with your principal-" He pointed out, when Emilia held her hand out to interrupt him.
"Hey. Technically that was Spike and not Chase. Plus, I at least tried to stop that but someone pulled me into a pile of popcorn with them." The Hunter chimed in, defending Chase who simply sent her a look of disbelief.
"Bub, I love you, but you're not helping."
"Right, sorry. Continue." Emilia muttered, telling Donald who shook his head before turning to Bree, reminding the girl. "And let's not forget you showing up in the yearbook as the bearded lady."
"Exactly. And they should be able to do those things, too." Adam chimed in, grinning at the man who sighed.
"Mr. Davenport, I know these kids. They can handle it, they're ready." Bree sighed, trying to persuade Donald to agree.
"Are you sure this is safe?" The group turned to the other side of the common area to see Bob standing behind Spin with his hands on his shoulders through his response. "Absolutely."
They watched as Bob threw Spin forward, using his super strength, making everyone flinch at the sound of Spin making contact with the wall, cutting off his own yell of pain.
"Live and learn." Bob simply shrugged before running after his friend.
Donald turned back to the mentors, holding his arms out to the sides, referring to what just happened as he said. "I rest my case."
Bree sighed after Donald walked away. "Guys, this isn't fair. They've been working hard. They deserve a night out."
"Okay, so let's sneak 'em off the island." Adam suggested.
"Adam, Mr. Davenport said no." Chase reminded him, not wanting to go against the man, making Bree look at Emilia, knowing if anyone would try to convince Chase, it would be her.
The banshee approached her boyfriend. "Chase, think about though. When Leo and I took you guys to school, you guys said it was the best thing that ever happened to you."
"That's true." Bree nodded, standing beside the Hunter girl.
"You're right, I'm in." Chase gave in, shrugging his shoulders.
"Aw, come on, Chase." Adam groaned, assuming the boy had disagreed still. "Break the rules for once in your life."
"I just said I'm in." Chase repeated, sending his brother a look of annoyance.
"Oh, sorry. I just assumed you'd say no." Adam chuckled, making Chase furrow his brows in question.
"Why?"
"No offence, but you're kind of a-" Bree started, wincing at Chase as Adam finished. "Fun killer."
"You talking about Chase?" Leo questioned as he approached the group, making Emilia roll her eyes. "Forgive them, one's depressed about not getting any peanut butter and another one is high on skittles." She pointed out, gesturing to Leo and Adam, sending them a pointed look.
Leo and Adam looked at the banshee offended as Bree chuckled in amusement before stepping towards Leo to ask him a favour. "Leo, can you cover for us with Mr. Davenport? We wanna sneak some of the kids out to the mainland for the night."
"Perhaps. But what can I expect in return for this arrangement?" Leo proposed, looking at Bree who was quick to challenge. "Well, I could always tell Mr. Davenport about that time you snuck out in his speedboat."
"You kids have a wonderful evening, okay?" Leo agreed instantly, not wanting Donald to know about what was just said. "Okay?"
โโโ ๏ฝฅ ๏ฝก๏พโ: *.โฝ .* :โ๏พ. โโโ
The mentors had successfully managed to pull a group of students out onto the mainland without being caught by Donald, and their first thought was to take them shopping so the students could change into different clothes that weren't colour coded by their training levels.
With the group arriving at the Arcade, Spin took in his surroundings while gasping in awe. "This is awesome. First we go to the mall for new clothes, and now, we get to eat real food and play video games."
Chase grinned as he softly slapped Spin on the back before looking up at Adam. "Hey, Adam, who paid for all that anyway?"
"We were supposed to pay for it?" Adam asked, earning a shocked look from Chase. "Be right back." He said before rushing out the arcade.
Emilia shook her head at the passing boy before approaching Chase and Spin, the latter of the two smiling at all the video games. She softly placed her hands on his shoulders, smiling down at him while gesturing to the arcade. "Go on then Spin, take a pick. What do you want to play on?"
"Whoa. What's that?" Spin asked, pointing over to a particular game that just so happened to be Emilia's favourite one.
Emilia grinned. "Ooh. Dance Dance Revolution. That's a fun one." She said, looking down at him to ask. "Do you want to go on it?"
"Yes! Can you come on with me, please?" Spin asked, wanting to spend some time with the girl he thought of like a big sister.
Emilia shared a look with Chase who sent her a soft smile before nodding his head. "Go on. I'll watch you."
"Oh, I'm sure you will." Emilia teased, sending him a smirk as she passed him her phone to keep a hold of before pecking him on the lips. "Come on then, Spin." She turned her head to call out to the boy, sending Chase a wink before following Spin to the game, hearing Chase chuckle from behind.
Emilia managed to play a couple of rounds with Spin on Dance, Dance, Revolution before sitting out at the bar since the boy had too much fun using his rapid gyration ability to spin in a cyclone across the dance stage.
"Isn't this great?" Bree smiled after taking a sip of her strawberry milkshake, sitting with Chase and Emilia at the bar. "I don't know what Mr. Davenport was so worried about. The kids are having a great time, and everybody loves 'em."
Chase nodded. "Yeah, no one can ever accuse me of being a fun killer again." He mentioned, his lips tugged up into a grin as he turned to Bree, now looking at the milkshake in her hand. "Okay, you've had enough sugar for today."
Bree didn't even get a chance to protest before he took the milkshake out of her hand and placed it on the counter. Chase looked at Emilia who was sipping on her chocolate milkshake, watching Spin when she held out her finger to him. "Try it and you'll see what happens."
โโโ ๏ฝฅ ๏ฝก๏พโ: *.โฝ .* :โ๏พ. โโโ
After a while, the four mentors brought the students back to the island, wanting to get there before it was too late and could potentially get caught by Donald. They waited outside the hydra loop as the students emerged from their transport, going back to their dorm rooms with smiles on their faces, knowing they could finally see what it's like in the real-world.
Emilia stood beside her boyfriend, holding onto the arms of the giant stuffed bear that was wrapped around her neck, which Chase had won for her. Chase stared in annoyance, watching as Adam continued to stroke the horn of the stuffed unicorn he won at the arcade on his face when he asked. "Can you stop that?"
"Oh, I can," Adam started, continuing to do what he was doing when he stopped for a moment, gesturing to the stuffed unicorn. "but, uh, Lester the Unicorn can't."
"Right Bob?" Adam smiled, resuming to stroke the unicorn's horn on Chase as he looked back at the hydra loop. "Bob?" He called again, the smile falling off his face when he got no response, making him stop what he was doing. "Hey, Spin, have you seen Bob?"
Chase looked towards Adam in panic who held his hand out to him. "Don't worry. Bob, have you seen Spin?"
"They're not here." Bree stated, panicking about the lack of presence from the two boys when Emilia turned to Adam with her brows furrowed in question. "Wait Adam, I thought you did a head count."
"I did. They were eighteen." Adam said, making Chase look at him in panic before reminding the boy. "We brought twenty!"
"Hey, you told me to count. You didn't tell me how many." Adam told him.
"Well, where are they?" Chase asked, throwing his arms out to the sides, not knowing they were still in the arcade, taking pictures in the photo booth.
Adam had given Emilia his stuffed unicorn so she could super speed to her room, keeping the two stuffed animals there and out of Donald's sight, which she managed to do successfully before super speeding back to the group, seeing Adam walk away with Chase following. "How could you forget Spin and Bob?"
"How could you forget Bob and Spin?" Adam turned around to face Chase as he repeated the question.
"Guys, stop." Bree was quick to interrupt the two before telling them. "It doesn't matter that you both messed up, and Emilia and I are completely innocent." She ignored the looks Chase and Adam gave her, adding on to her point. "We need to find them before Mr. Davenport figures out that they're gone."
"She's right. We better tell Leo to keep covering for us." Chase said, glancing at Adam before turning his head to look at the girls. "And how are you two innocent?"
Emilia and Bree shared a smirk before the latter of the two demonstrated a fake cry through her response. "Mr. Davenport, I'm so sorry. I-I tried to stop them."
Emilia sighed. "Girl tears. More powerful than any bionic ability." She told the boys before her and Bree fist-bumped each other.
"That's not fair. I thought only Chase had that ability." Adam scoffed, turning to look at Chase with a smile who simply rolled his eyes in annoyance.
"Come on, let's go find Leo." Emilia huffed out a breath, turning on her heel before heading towards the mentor headquarters with the others in toe.
"Hey, Leo! Leo?" Chase called out for the Dooley as they neared the headquarters, and just as they were about to approach the doors, Leo came rushing out, stopping in the hallway. "Oh, hey guys. What's up?"
"We left Spin and Bob on the mainland. Can you keep covering for us?" Chase asked.
"Yeah, no problem." Leo waved him off before he pointed his finger behind them with a yell. "Get out!"
The four mentors stared at him in question as if they were wondering why he looked so scared of their presence when Emilia sniffed the air, stepping forward to Leo at the theory. "Wait a minute. Are you wearing olive oil?"
"What a man does with his imported oils is his own business." Leo responded.
Adam smiled. "Well, whatever you're doing man, it's working." He told the Dooley who was quick to push them out the hallway.
โโโ ๏ฝฅ ๏ฝก๏พโ: *.โฝ .* :โ๏พ. โโโ
As the four bionic teenagers finally returned back to Mission Creek, they stopped outside the building with the arcade inside when Chase had informed them. "The GPS locators on their chips say they're 20 feet away. They're still inside the burger joint."
"But look at all those police cars." Emilia pointed out in worry, not wanting anything to have happened to the two boys while they were back at the island. This made Bree groan as she threw her arms up in the air at her question. "Oh, what did Bob do now?"
Adam turned his head to look at his sister. "Why do you always assume it's Bob?"
"Uh, because he is a mini version of you." Bree was quick to respond, turning her head to look at Adam who scoffed. "You're just jealous because nobody wants to be like you."
"Adam." Emilia scolded the boy, turning to Chase with a sigh who was quick to point out. "That's the police radio. I'll use my bionic hearing to listen in."
Chase activated his bionic hearing before muffled voices rang through his ears, and he listened in to what they were saying. "Attention, all units. Bank robbers are barricaded in the Game and Grub Arcade."
"Oh, no." Chase looked worried before turning to inform the others in thought. "Spin and Bob must be stuck in there with the four ex-convicts that just robbed the bank."
Adam sighed in response. "Man! I hope they didn't rob Federal Financial. That's where I keep my retirement fund."
"Adam, not now." Emilia sighed before speaking up in thought. "Okay, we're gonna have to come up with a plan. So, one of us will have to call Leo to keep covering for us since this will probably take longer than we expected."
"I'll do it." Adam decided, pulling out his phone and stepped away to talk to Leo as the other three watched from behind. "Hey, it's Adam. Adam Davenport."
Chase went away to try and get more information about the situation, leaving Bree, Adam and Emilia chatting to themselves, waiting for Chase to come back.
"There he is. Chase, what's going on?" Bree asked upon seeing her brother approach them.
"The police are trying to negotiate with the bank robbers. They have Spin and Bob, and they're using them as leverage to escape." Chase informed them, which apparently made Adam sigh in relief. "Oh, good. At least they're being supervised by adults."
"Em, are you sensing anything?" Bree asked the brunette while stopping Adam from walking away when Emilia shook her head before telling Bree. "Not really, no. But that doesn't stop me from worrying."
โโโ ๏ฝฅ ๏ฝก๏พโ: *.โฝ .* :โ๏พ. โโโ
"Guys! Don't worry, we're here to save you." Bree reassured the two boys as her along with Emilia, Chase and Adam ran inside the burger joint.
"Too late. We already took care of it." Spin had informed the mentors who stared in surprise, finally noticing two of the bank robbers tied up in front of them. "Criminals have been apprehended by two bionic heroes."
"In training." Bob added as he placed his hands on his hips, earning a look of disbelief from Spin who turned to him with a scoff. "You're killin' me man."
Chase was first to turn to the boys as the cops were finally escorting the bank robbers out of the building. "Guys, what were you thinking? You can't just stay behind because you're having a good time."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, back up." Spin was quick to interrupt him, stepping forward to correct. "We didn't stay here. You left us behind."
"That is not true..." Chase said, cutting himself off with a nervous stammer. "We'll talk about this later. Right now, we need to get back home before Mr. Davenport realises we're gone."
"Too late." They heard a familiar voice call out, making them widen their eyes upon seeing Donald walk in with Leo in toe, knowing now they've been caught.
"Hey, everybody." Leo called, waving his hand at the four teens, wearing a nervous smile.
Donald ignored the Dooley, stepping towards the teenagers to scold them. "I specifically told you not to take the students off the island, and what did you do?"
"Um..." Chase stammered nervously, not being able to come up with a response when Adam turned to him with a loud whisper. "He doesn't even know. We're in the clear."
"They were stuck here with no idea how to get home." Donald continued, ignoring what Adam said as he gestured towards the two young students. "Not to mention, someone could've gotten seriously hurt."
"So maybe tonight didn't go great," Spin started, shrugging his shoulders as he chimed in. "but we had the best time. We played cool games, hung out like real kids and we learned a ton."
Bob nodded. "Yeah, I learned that chipotle mayo is my favourite flavour, and hand sanitiser is not a flavour."
"Plus, we finally got to put our bionics to use, and not just for some lame academy training exercise." Spin continued, defending the four mentors, before he looked back up at Donald in realisation of what he said. "Which I love as much as your protein bars."
"Okay, I get it. Just next time, don't sneak out to do it. All right? Now go fill the police in on what happened, and we'll be out in a second." Donald told the two students.
"Well, all's well that ends well, so..." Bree smiled, assuming they were off the hook as she stepped towards the man who was quick to correct. "Oh, no. You are still in trouble."
Emilia and Bree let out a fake cry, demonstrating the act Bree showed the boys earlier. "We're sorry. We tried to stop them."
To their surprise, Adam stepped forward to join in as he fake cried. "I did too."
Emilia and Bree stepped back, sharing a look at Adam's actions when Donald stopped Adam, telling the boy. "Okay, okay, not working."
"Hey," Chase called out to the man upon noticing his outfit. "why are you wearing your snowsuit?"
"Uh... it... well..." Donald stammered nervously, turning his gaze towards Leo as he struggled to respond to Chase's question. "It, um... It's funny. I don't have to justify myself to you."
"Wait a second. Is that..." Bree trailed off as she stepped towards Donald, her brows furrowed in question as if she noticed something before super speeding around Donald, taking his snowsuit off, only to leave all of them in shock when they saw what the man was wearing underneath.
"My mission suit?!" Chase exclaimed, narrowing his eyes at the man with clenched fists. Donald pursed his lips, not knowing how to respond when he began imitating laser fire, playing it off.
"Force field. Super speed."
โโโ ๏ฝฅ ๏ฝก๏พโ: *.โฝ .* :โ๏พ. โโโ
"Okay, guys, I'm off to the mainland." Donald announced as he walked through the mentor headquarters the next day.
Before the man could leave the room, Chase spoke up, remembering what happened the day before. "Wait. So everything's okay with my suit?"
"Yep. See ya soon." Donald said with a nervous smile as he attempted to leave the room when Chase spoke up again. "And you cleaned it?"
"Good as new. Toodles." Donald scoffed, trying to leave the room before he got caught when an alarm went off, indicating a mission alert as Bree had announced.
"Let's go." Chase said as Emilia super speeded away to put on her own mission suit.
"Oh, boy. Good luck with that." Donald muttered before leaving the room as fast as he could.
Emilia super speeded back into the room just in time when Adam, Bree and Chase stepped out of their capsules, although she stopped in her tracks to look at Chase, stifling a laugh at the state of his mission suit, along with Bree as Adam just stared at him with his brows furrowed.
Upon noticing the stares, Chase looked down at his suit, letting out a yell when he had seen his suit was ripped and torn apart, before instantly trying to cover himself with his arms, but that didn't stop Emilia from staring with a slight smirk at her lips.
Adam shared a different reaction to the two girls when he questioned. "Something's different. Did you get a haircut?"
