"What!? What's that supposed to mean?" I stared at them with confusion but inside, I knew the answer. 

      "Practically... we're like farm animals. Ready to be slaughtered into food... for the... demons? Or maybe they're just monsters. I dunno." Ray replied, staring me dead in the eye. Nothing changed in his expression... no shock or betrayal. Nothing. Norman stared at his shoes and nodded. 

      "... But- it can't be," I cried, tears welling inside my eyes. I collapsed to the ground, my heart racing in my chest. Why would they do that to us? Why would they want to steal my family? WHY WOULD THEY WANT TO HURT US!? "HAVEN'T THEY DONE ENOUGH!?" I screamed, fury and pain melding together. I clenched my fists and stared Ray in the eyes. "We're family. They know that. SO WHY WOULD THEY WANT TO DO IT."

      Norman shook his head but his eyes remained planted to the ground. Ray shrugged. Heavy breathing echoed through the room. Mine. Only mine. "HOW COME NONE OF YOU CARE!? HOW COME YOU DON'T CARE THAT OUR FAMILY IS GOING TO DIE!?" Tears streamed down my eyes as I imagined it. Conny, innocent Conny, being slaughtered by demons. And they don't care. No one does. "WHY DON'T YOU CARE!?" I stared at them, my eyes bloodthirsty with revenge. 

      Silence. No answer. No excuse. I sprinted away, my head throbbing, frustration penetrating my heart. Why should I be with people who don't care about it... about our future?

I stared at Norman, his tussled white hair flying everywhere as he took a seat on the vintage carpet. Huh. It was about time Emma left us. After all, love doesn't last long. Especially not friendship. But...I do care, Emma. I just knew from the start.
