you, being you, had allowed all your assignments to pile up in a heap on your desk. you'd like to say it was a one time thing, but that would be a lie.

your procrastination knew no limits, and yet you were a pro at pulling something together last minute and still landing a decent grade, so there was no stopping you.

a few hours had already gone by, and you decided it would be a good idea to go out and buy the heart now rather than much later at night. throwing on whatever you deemed comfortable, you grabbed only your wallet and keys and a small grocery bag before leaving the house.

despite the dark clouds that suggested that it would rain, you felt far too lazy to head back indoors to grab a rain jacket and proceeded on your way to the butchers. you got what you needed and paid for the heart, and headed out of the store while contemplating whether or not you should scam hinata and tsukishima to pay you extra for making you get the heart alone.

you shoved your hands into your pockets to stop your fingertips going numb from the chilli autumn breeze, and noticed that you didn't have your wallet with you anymore. you figured you must've left it at the butchers after paying and turned on your heel to retrieve it.

of course, somehow also being a trouble magnet, you attracted some unwanted attention. maybe it was due to the fact that you were a girl who was walking home alone in the dark, but situations like this happened too often for your liking, even in broad daylight.

two boys, who only appeared a couples year older than you, began walking uncomfortably close to you. "hey there, little lady."

ignore them. just walk faster.

"what, you think you're too good for us? don't be like that, love."

y/n, don't snap. just walk away. calmly.

"if that pretty mouth of yours won't talk, i wonder what else i could make it do."

that's it.

"sorry, gentlemen. i'm kind of busy."

"busy? ah, but you can make some time for us, can't you?" one cooed.

"hm? no, i'm actually on my way to sell a heart. so unless you're willing to let me take yours, i can't make any time for you."

"you can have my heart any day sweetheart." the other chimed in, wrapping an arm around your shoulder.

your lips curved into a sly smile, and your hands found the plastic bag containing your purchase from the butchers. you pulled it out of your grocery bag and dangled it in front of the them. "i meant a literal heart. i'm willing to make an appointment, can i take your numbers? i'll also need a contract that allows me to perform surgery in order to legally take your hearts."

the two, who were only moments ago badgering you for your personal details, now recoiled and backed away.

"let's get out of here, this one's a freak." the taller one suggested and tugged at the other ones sleeve.

"aw, i cant just lose two potential customers like that! my business will fail." you pouted, which only caused them to scamper away even faster.

once they were out of sight you rolled your eyes and dumped the heart back in the grocery bag. "pussies."

you were glad you had the heart with you, or you weren't sure how you'd have got them off your case. you entered the butchers again and found your purse on the counter, where the shop assistant had been keeping it. you thanked her quickly and made your way back outside, but by now, it was pouring.

you waited for a few minutes, hoping the rain would let up, but it only got heavier. you sighed and decided to make a break for it, but before you stepped out into the rain, you caught sight of kageyama who was soaked to the core.

panicking, you tried to make yourself less visible by stepping closer to the wall, but you're sudden movement caught his eye.

"l/n?"

"oh, uh, hi kageyama."

"what're you doing here?"

he doesn't know i'm the one who called him cute. don't blow your own cover y/n.

"the heart. for biology, i'm buying it."

"ah." he nodded. "me too."

"i thought you had volleyball practice?"

"yeah i di- wait, how did you know that?"

stop exposing yourself y/n you dumbass.

"i have a few friends on the team who wouldn't come with me to buy the heart because of practice." you managed.

"oh, i see. practice finished early since our coach had somewhere to be. he told us to get home before the rain started."

you glanced at the street. "a bit late for that, huh?"

"i guess." he shrugged.

"uh, anyway. i'm gonna head home. see you around, kageyama."

"wait."

"hm?"

"you're going home in that weather?" he asked, pointing outside.

"i mean, what choice do i have?"

he looked around the store until his eyes landed on something. "come with me."

seeing no harm in it, you followed after him, only to come to a standstill in front of a bunch of kids umbrellas. since it was a convenience store with a butchers section attached to it, this wasn't unusual.
"which one should we get? i only have the money for one right now." he explained.

you had to bite back a laugh. "the shrek one looks nice."

"...i was hoping you would say barbie."

"you're telling me, kageyama tobio, the one who has a permanent scowl on his face, is a barbie fan?"

"and my favourite colour is pink. what about it?" he asked, defensively.

you couldn't hold back a smile this time. "that's the most precious thing i've ever heard."

"my sister got me into barbie movies as a kid and i hasn't stopped watching them since." he admitted. he didn't take long to pay for the umbrella and buy the heart, and he even walked you home.

"get inside safely." he called before walking off.

"mhm! don't catch a cold, kageyama. and thanks for walking me!"

he didn't turn back around but raised his hand in acknowledgment that he heard.
