description ─── She's pale-skinned with hollow cheeks and constant dark bags under her eyes from lack of sleep. Hikaru's hair is long, and thick and is a dark black colour. She always has it up and out of her face, typically by braiding it into twin plaits or low twin-tails that she binds with ribbons. Hikaru has dark eyes and round, metal-rimmed glasses that she always wears. She is covered in scars, as are most Jujustu Sorcerers, the most noticeable being one across the corner of her mouth.
extra ───She wears simple, small glasses and limited jewellery. When she isn't fighting, Hikaru wears simple silver jewellery, mostly from her grandfather and the rest of her clan, who now shower her with gifts since she became a special-grade sorcerer. Hikaru, while working, prefers to wear a black buttoned shirt with a red tie, she also will wear high-waisted black dress pants that are loose. During her high school years, she would wear the standard female uniform, with a sheath to hang her brushes.
PART THREE .ᐟ psyche
══════════════════════════════════
❝ sometimes we don't get second chances,
sometimes things just end. ❞
personality .ᐟ Constantly dour, a dark cloud seems to always follow Hikaru.
Bad luck has, seemingly, always followed Hikaru around. Because of this, she's become quite a recluse, rule-abiding and strict. Constantly restricted and controlled, Hikaru has found it easier to become as perfect as possible - in concept of course. She works hard, trains harder, and excels in most areas to which she puts her mind. She is a perfectionist at heart and likes to see things perfectly aligned. She expects perfection from everything around and herself, therefore being the most critical of her own actions and mistakes.
Hikaru is always angry. she may not look angry, or sound it, but it remains deep in her chest, like a knot, tight around her heart. She cannot express her grief, hurt or pain in her family - and therefore it just festers, rotting within her. As a teenager, Hikaru was considerably more violent in expressing her anger. She would be quiet and then fly off the handles, attacking those nearest to her.
As an adult, Hikari has become very patient. She has found the value in friendships and being close to those around her and has even become the sort to express ideals about why Sorcerers must protect humans. When she was younger, Hikaru was the sort to seek power over all else, although she didn't like humans, she wanted to protect them as a way to show her strength. Now, she understands that the simple life of the weak is much for desirable and less exhausting, so she seeks to maintain human's illusion of peace, even if that sacrifices her safety.
She is a very controlled person, with all her ducks in a row. Hikaru is the sort to organize everything, her interactions, her friendships, her clothes. Everything is in lists and graphs. She struggles with emoting and therefore finds it easier to manage things from the sidelines, to view but not really participate. This means that she's quite an isolated character, always alone even in a crowd. It means that no one really knows what Hikaru is thinking and even when she tries to explain herself she isn't the most well-spoken, or emotive, so her answers and responses appear almost robotic or mechanical. Rehearsed.
positive traits ─── hard-working, headstrong, perfectionist,
methodical, loyal, passionate, and patient.
negative traits ─── selfish, mean, cruel, aloof, pessimistic, isolated.
dislikes ─── losing, being perceived as stupid, overly surface level things, opening up, being weak, feeling useless, overly feminine clothes, nicknames, touching/being touched, most celebrations - such as birthdays etc.
likes ─── winning, food, dark clothes, jewellery, rules and mechanics, fans in summer, tv shows, books, bruises, her grandfather.
moral alignment ─── chaotic good
personality type ─── ISTJ

cursed techniques .ᐟ
⋆ Hexed Ink: An inherited technique from her grandfather. With the use of the Hand of God brushes (a cursed tool), Hikaru can splatter and control the ink that it creates. When this ink marks its opponent it curses or hexes them, causing them to die or weaken, depending on the opponent's strength and the amount of ink splattered.
extension techniques .ᐟ
⋆ Binding Silk: Instead of splattering the ink, Hikaru can shift them into a spiderweb-like substance, that can stretch outward and be controlled. She can manipulate the movement of these webs, which are often used as extended arms, shields and nets to grab her enemies and bind them. Instead of poisoning, touching the web saps the strength of her opponents.
⋆ Painted Spider Technique: When using the Hands of God, Hikaru can paint a Shikigami which she has summoned and tamed prior. The Shikigami is the "Painted Spider", a large inky spider that is under Hikaru's control. The spider is the Shikigami she can summon, because of its size and power it is hard to control but is used typically as a trump card, similar to that of Megumi's Mahoraga.
⋆ Needle Point: Instead of using the Hands of God as web or ink summoners, they can be transformed so their handles are like knives. It's a useful close combat tactic, used for quick attacks. Cuts caused by Needle Point take longer to heal and last several months.
⋆ Needle Point, Consumption: A developed version of the previous technique, every stab of the needlepoint saps the cursed energy and strength of the opponent. With each attack, the Hands of God's energy is strengthened and Hikaru can then imbue herself with the stolen energy.
⋆ Blue Cocoon, Final Flame: A last resort move where Hikaru covers herself with her own ink, encasing herself. It covers her body like a second skin and starts to burn a blue fire. This is a defensive technique that uses all of Hikaru's energy, leaving her entirely defenceless by the end. However, for a brief moment, Hikaru is an unstoppable force of fire and poison.
strengths .ᐟ
⋆ Hikaru is considered one of the fastest Jujustu Sorcerers, her reflexes and dodging ability paired with her quick movements that allow her to poison her enemies is what makes her an incredibly powerful enemy.
⋆ Intuitively, her abilities are constantly, in some way, sapping the energy of her opponent and in many cases that energy is being transferred to Hikaru. So, in the majority of her fights, she is stealing her opponent's cursed energy, making them weaker and weaker as the fight continues.
⋆ Her Shikigami, Painted Spider, is a trump card. Its ability is to predict the actions of its enemies and therefore tricking or strategising against it is near impossible.
⋆ Hikaru's Binding Silk attack allows her to fight from a distance, or force her enemies to become closer. She is in command of the style of fight.
weaknesses .ᐟ
⋆ Hikaru is physically not as strong as her opponents. In hand-to-hand combat situations, Hikaru is the weaker fighter, and so if she is forced into a purely physical fight Hikaru is unlikely to win by pure strength alone.
⋆ She only has ten Hands of God brushes, typically carrying two with her and then being able to summon the rest, but when they're all destroyed, Hikaru's technique will be severely limited.
⋆ With Reversal techniques or Resonance, the effects of her technique can be flipped back onto herself.
cursed tools ─── Hands of God: A collection of ten brushes, she has carried by her side the others can be summoned throughout the fight. They are an inherited weapon from the Hasegawa clan.
domain expansion ─── Hexed Web: A large spider's web in a completely black, inky void. The web covers the floor, walls and roof, each with its own unique trap (such as poison, trip wire, etc). Inside the domain, Hikaru's brushes are the size of swords and the web will move at will, trapping and grabbing her opponent however she pleases.
character tropes ─── weaker sister, not the golden child, black cat, grumpy mentor, mood-coded character, girl as a dog.
character quotes .ᐟ
❝ If I'm not strong then I am nothing. ❞
❝ You're annoying. ❞
❝ I'm trying my hardest. Can't you see? I'm always trying my best to replace Himari, but why can't you ever just love me as Hikaru? ❞
❝ I hate you but don't leave me alone. ❞
❝ How can we even tell it's worth it? What if I wake up when I'm older and realise I've just wasted my entire life fighting and seeing my friends die? I. . . I don't know if I can do this anymore. ❞
character soundtrack ─── hikaru-core.
character trivia .ᐟ
⋆ Hikaru is very book-smart and loves to study. She has a wide collection of books and literature and there will be days where she locks herself in her room to study.
⋆ She had an older sister, Himari, who also had the inherited technique but she passed away on a mission and Hikaru was made to replace her. She was forced to move into Himari's room and study Himari's fighting style.
⋆ Hikaru is good at keeping people at arm's length, she typically does this by meaning mean, but those that she is close to she protects fiercely.
⋆ She has to wear glasses, it's the one thing that is exceptionally different to Himari that her clan didn't change about her.
⋆ Hikaru hates her hair being down but firmly believes that memories are stored in the hair. She only cut her hair once, which was after she found out Taiyo was working with Suguru, after that betrayal Hikaru cut her hair into a bob.
⋆ She has always wanted to teach the students at Jujustu High Tech, her favourite students are the ones who have an almost obsessive need to be strong - like Zenin Maki or Itadori Yuji.
⋆ She is an avid painter and has several portraits of her loved ones. The only one she is unable to paint properly is Himari - she always ends up doing self-portraits.
⋆ Hikaru entered Jujustu High Tech as a second grade sorcerer, but after Himari's death she was promoted to first grade, when she became a teacher Hikaru was promoted to special grade.

childhood ─── Hikaru's life began with her sister. But I guess this statement is incorrect too, for it assumes that Hikaru had a life of her own. There was no Hikaru's life. There was only Himari. Alway Himari.
I shall begin again. Himari was born two years before Hikaru and her name meant bright or sun. Himari was the brightest part of the Hasegawa clan. She was clever, quick-witted, and oh-so kind. She was so kind that it was hard to hate her. But even kindness could be tainted, marked by anger and abuse. The Haesgawa clan trained both sisters brutally, especially Himari. Himari could never be less than perfect. She began training at a very early age, it was language and history at first, lessons on the other Jujustu clans and the abilities of each of their members. Then, when Himari was older, it became strength, agility, and endurance tests. She was taught to fight and to win. This training was brutal and it shattered Himari's self-worth. She was never Himari. She was Himari Hasegawa the heir to the Hasegawa Clan. Image was everything. Reputation was everything.
Hikaru was born into a life much similar to Himari's, except she was the spare. It was expected of her to be worse than Himari, but even though she was three years younger, Hikaru was forced to keep up or die. She learned techniques more sloppily, second-hand from her sister or watching her instructors teach Himari. The Hasegawa Clan never wanted Hikaru to excel. She was forced to fight tooth and claw, she was forced to get better, but she was never allowed to be the best. Hikaru spent her early years in Himari's shadow, pushed to the back, forgotten, and ignored.
Within Himari's shadow, the two sisters fought constantly and competed even more. It was when Hikaru was eleven and her sister was thirteen and during an unfortunate and unfair fight Hikaru's arm was broken. She never trusted her sister after that and the anger lasted longer than the scar.
adolescence ─── Time passed. Hikaru got older, perhaps stronger, but Himari's prowess as a fighter is what truly deserved all the attention. Hikaru was a shadow, a footnote in history, a forgotten face, smeared by cigarette ash. She was left behind. Himari was scouted to join the Jujstu High Tech and her one condition was that Hikaru should come along too. They had very similar, if not the same, inherited techniques, and therefore Himari was adamant that the two should train together still. I think Himari had formed an unhealthy attachment to her sister, like a body without a shadow, she was less of a person without her sister. Himari entered the school, powerful, and strong, and she competed fiercely against the rest of the students.
Hikaru's first year at Jujustu High Tech was lonely, wet, and cold. Japan faced unnaturally strong storms and exceedingly long and heavy rainfall, leaving the school constantly wet. Areas of Tokyo flooded nearly constantly, so curses filled every damp spot, corners of shops, puddles of rain on the floor, and spaces where drips filled buckets. She trained mostly by herself, unpopular and disliked, thanks to Himari's bright personality that soaked up everyone else's attention.
The turn of Hikaru's fortune and when she truly entered adolescence.
At age seventeen, Himari died.
Hikaru was fifteen years old and her older sister died. Murdered. Killed by a cursed spirit. They didn't even have enough of a body to bury. This was strange, to say the least. How is a shadow meant to feel once the body dies? Hikaru was weightless and heavy all at once, she was stuck in the past, frozen in time, while equally excited to break free. But as I've said many times, Hikaru never had the privilege of being her own person. Even in death, Himari haunted Hikaru. Even in life, Hikaru was forced to be one with Himari.
The Hasegawa Clan decided that Hikaru should have half a year off and train back at their residence. She was stripped of anything Hikaru other than her name and forced to dress, act, and train like Himari. It was strange to step into the life that Hikaru had always wanted. Daunting and disgusting, it was like sleeping in Himari's grave. All photos of the older sister were destroyed. Hikaru wanted to kill her sister and yet destroying her memory was too much. What was the point in hating someone who no longer existed? That anger remained, even if the memory of Himari faded. It was lodged underneath Hikaru's ribcage near-permanently.
There was a brief moment in time where life wasn't bad for Hikaru. She made friends with two students whom she originally hated. Tsukiya and Taiyo Kurose. A powerful set of twins whom Hikaru wanted to kill for a while before she got to know both of them. During her time as their friend, she began to grow feelings for Taiyo. It wasn't something spoken, it was slow and gentle and sweet. They held hands when she was seventeen and it was the sweetest thing she had experienced since she was a child. While she was around the two Kuroses, Hikaru felt like she could be Hikaru and she wasn't just Himari's sister.
Everything sweet must come to an end, however. While Hikaru was on assignment, Satoru and Suguru were sent on a task, and after the loss of Riko the entire school was shaken. Hikaru... well... she didn't exactly care. People died. Get over it. But it seemingly rattled a few of the other students. It was around that time that Taiyo disappeared. Died. Nobody used that word. Nobody had to guts to make it permanent, although it eventually became permanent. He was dead, and Hikaru and Tsukiya became closer than ever.
adulthood ─── When Hikaru was nineteen she joined the staff at Jujustu High and began to work as a teacher. She was given the level of special grade and seemingly had found her place in the world. Sure, she was the one whose boyfriend had died but everyone in the Jujustu community had lost someone, and eventually Hikaru learned to close that area of herself. The tender spots, like wounds still healing.
She never really moved on from Taiyo's disappearance. Plenty assumed that he had died and as much as she wished she could hold onto some form of hope, it was an easier punishment to believe he was dead. Hikaru never liked anyone other than Taiyo, that was fine though, she didn't need to. Life was busy enough training students, and working alongside Satoru and Tsukiya. There was a point in Hikaru's adulthood where she... moved on from Himari's death. It was like it all clicked like she was finally allowed to love her sister, to detach her identity from hers. It was a bit selfish, though, because it also meant that Hikaru had slipped perfectly into the position of heir. She was used to it now, like shoes that had gradually moulded to fit. Still, it was just a moment while eating at a cafe somewhere and she just broke down crying. Himari was dead... and Hikaru was going to miss her for the rest of her life. She loved her sister. It was a bittersweet ending.
When she was around twenty-eight the Night Parade of 100 Demons occurred. For the most part, Hikaru was fighting in Tokyo. She wished she was back at the school, where she could have protected Yuta more, or fought Suguru. It would have been... nice to have seen him die. Not nice, but it would have given her closure. Like the final chapter in a book. After all, Hikaru and Suguru had been close. They had understood each other. God - she considered him a friend. Still, whatever she felt for him paled to Satoru. Hikaru didn't even know how to comfort him. In the end, she didn't. She just left him alone - maybe that was the wrong way to go about it but Hikaru wasn't perfect.
About a year later the Shibuya incident occurred. That was the worst for Hikaru. She was paired with Panda and Kusakabe, which was a frustrating duo, but it did mean that she saw Sukuna. It was the most terrifying moment of her life. He was pure death and fire and power. Hikaru wished she had done something more but she just didn't know what to do, how to do anything. She froze. I think the worst moment was when she saw Taiyo again.
Yep. Taiyo was alive. He had joined Suguru. He had betrayed her. They didn't fight but Hikaru wished she had. She wished she tried to kill him, at least. It made her appear so weak, to blubber and cry and hug him. She was grasping onto something gone, something dead. There was no Taiyo left - a stranger in his body and the next time she saw him she intended to kill him.
More to be added when s3 comes out!
core memories .ᐟ
⋆ The first time Himari actually hurt Hikaru. They were sparring and their grandfather was watching, Himari was a year older and she was therefore stronger than Hikaru. Himari broke Hikaru's arm and she clearly remembers the moment when her bone broke and the snapping sound.
⋆ Hikaru standing in front of the mirror, taking off her glasses and being unable to distinguish whether she was Himari or Hikaru.
⋆ When Taiyo asked her to have her hair down for a moment. At the time she didn't know he was leaving to join Geto Suguru but she knew something was wrong. Hikaru took her hair down for once, she had never felt so vulnerable in front of someone before.
⋆ Walking into Tsukiya's apartment and seeing her best friend just sitting in the floor, staring blankly. They were mourning Nanami Kento, Hikaru remembers sitting beside her best friend and they sat in silence together for several hours.
⋆ The moment she realized she loved and missed Himari. It was a normal moment on a normal day, but it just clicked and she broke down in a restaurant and started crying.
