you were in the police station for hours, answering question after question. you felt tired. drained, mentally and physically and ushijima cut the interrogation short in order to give you a break.

"get some rest, please. you could really use it." he insisted. you'd been at the police station for hours now, without a chance to even see your mother. her condition was stable, and she hadn't suffered too much damage from driving right into your father.

"how is he?" you asked quietly.

"he still hasn't woken up." ushijima responded. "but he's alive."

you nodded, slowly. "good."

"good?"

"i can't hope to punish the dead. i need him alive to make sure he pays for everything he's done."

"of course." ushijima chimed. "he's not getting away with it this time."

"thank you, wakatoshi." you smiled weakly and rested your head on his shoulder.

"sleep. i'll wake you in an hour."

"mhm. good night." you mumbled, already half asleep.

ushijima sat there, still as ever, only focusing on your steady breathing that made him feel that finally, after all these years, perhaps his life and yours could finally be steady too.

chaos had followed you around since you were a young child, and here you were, nearing your mid twenties and still fighting the same battles. ushijima was just glad you weren't alone through it all. that fate would've been too cruel.

ushijima watched the clock as an hour passed. then another, and another again. you woke up eventually, rubbing your eyes as you lifted your head off ushijima's shoulder. "i thought you said you'd wake me in an hour."

"you needed that rest." he shrugged. "feel better?"

you nodded and opened your mouth to speak when your stomach rumbled, interrupting you. "maybe i'm a tiny bit hungry?"

"i'll go buy something from the store." ushijima stated, standing up.

"thanks, toshi. i could use a snack."

it wasn't long after he walked out the door that you noticed he left his phone behind. you only caught sight of it when it was buzzing next to you, where he sat just minutes ago. you picked up the phone —seeing as it was from one of his colleagues— to tell them that ushijima would be back in a few minutes but hey spike before you were given the chance.

"ushijima we need backup. the man in the car accident just woke up and is behaving violently in the room. he has already harmed 2 nurses, held them hostage and threatens to kill them if his daughter doesn't show up."

you stood up from your seat willed your voice not to waver. "tell that fucker that his daughter is on her way. and also, if you cops let him escape again, i really will go ballistic."

your hands shook as you hung up the phone and placed ushijimas phone back on the bench.

sorry wakatoshi. you sighed inwardly. but i promise i'll be okay this time.

you left the police station in a hurry and bolted to the nearest cab waiting around, giving them rushed instructions to drive you to your hospital.

you threw a few notes of cash at the driver and scrambled out of the car, calling out an apology over your shoulder as you sprinted to the reception desk to determine the whereabouts of your father.

"room 37, ms. (l/n)."

you uttered a quick "thank you!" before once again quickly finding your way to your father.

"ma'am you can't go in there right now."

"that man going crazy in there? that's my father. let me through before he tosses those nurses bodies back for you to bury." you snapped.

the cops looked around as if trying to come to an agreement, but you didn't have time to seek their approval. you walked straight past the two guarding the door and stepped inside the dark, moonlit room.

"so we meet again, (f/n)-chan."

"you didn't give me much of a choice." you grunted in response. "i'm here. let the nurses go."

"hm, should i?" he mused. "i think i might keep them for company."

only one out of the two were conscious and you could see the fear in her eyes and her desperation to find a way out.

"stick to your fucking word, you coward." you demanded. "let them go, right fucking now."

"my dear (f/n)-chan, since when do you use such vulgar language?"

"you haven't seen me in years, stop acting like you'd know shit." you reached out and grabbed a syringe off a tray near you and flung it at your father, which he dodged easily enough. while he was distracted though, you stepped close to him and pressed a syringe against his neck, the long needle pricking his skin.

"run!" you told the nurse, who had a much better chance at get away now since your father's grip on her had loosened.

she didn't waste much time, seizing her opportunity to scramble away from the two of you. your father glared at you angrily and shoved you away easily, following up by allowing the back of his hand to make contact with your face.

he shook his hand and narrowed his eyes at you threateningly. "do you understand the situation you're in now?"

"uh, yeah. that hit you just landed is going to bruise real bad tomorrow."

"now is not the appropriate time to humour yourself (f/n)-chan."

"it's always an appropriate time to humour yourself. you wouldn't know since your sense of humour is whack." you sighed.

your father was getting more and more aggravated by the second and threw a few more swings at you, a few of which you managed to avoid. you were buying time, since the second nurse had just regained consciousness and was crawling towards the door slowly.

once she was out safely, your shoulders slumped in relief and you collapsed to your knees. "they won't get hurt because of me." you told yourself reassuringly.

"you're only putting yourself in danger (f/n)-chan. you really haven't changed at all." your father mocked, raising a fist to take another swing at you.

"now that's where you're wrong." you interjected, catching his fist in your palm and twisting his arm, forcing him to turn his back to you. "i'm a doctor in training, and i'll show you that we doctors are people to be feared as well as respected you piece or shit." your hands curled around the scalpel that you slipped into your pocket and you stuck it into his spine.

your father was attempting to look at you over his shoulder and for the first time, you saw fear in his eyes.

"don't ever, mess with a doctor again." you said aggressively, your voice low, before you stepped away from your father and called the cops in.

"miss (l/n), what on earth happened?" the cop in charge asked you.

"not right now." you said, stopping his questions and pointed a finger at your father. "he's going to undergo another surgery, and i'm right staying to keep that fucker alive. he's not getting away with shit."

"as you wish, miss."

you're going to pay for everyone you've hurt, you scumbag. i'm going to make sure of it.

okok before y'all go crazy over how evil this y/n is in the chapter, please keep in mind that this psycho dad has been the cause of her trauma and most of her losses in life

also i do not support doctors harming patients and i don't think y/n was right to do so but it's what i would do?? even if it's wrong, if i went through this much and hadn't lost my sanity then i'd lose control of my emotions and go batshit on the dad so uh,, i'm not justifying y/n's actions bc as a doctor she shouldn't be,, yk? harming people? especially a patient? but these are extreme circumstances

anyways that's all heres yalls update bc i'm feeling snazzy this halloween <33
