Kageyama helped himself to the food and the team ate. Everyone was noisy but that was expected from a large group of teenagers.
"Hey, thanks, (f/n)." He whispered to you while the others were distracted with food or conversation.
You only smiled. "This is the teams surprise party, I only helped organise it but it was Hinata's idea. I've got something for you later."
"Huh?"
"You'll see, Tobio. You'll see."

You and Kageyama were headed in the direction of your house but you didn't head inside. "That was your early surprise birthday party. When it's midnight, it'll be your actual birthday and you're only getting your gift then. And I've planned something else anyways! Come with me."
Kageyama was done with trying to figure out where you were going and he knew you sure as hell wouldn't tell him so he decided to trust you.
You ended up at the train station, and Kageyama had quit asking questions, instead, you were engaging in pleasant conversation. As pleasant as he could possibly get anyways.
"So she stuck gum in your hair?" He laughed.
He'd been laughing more often recently, but even if he laughed every second you didn't think it would stop the feeling it gave you. His laugh was loud, contagious.
One might even say, sexy.
"Yeah she got mad at me for 'stealing her man' and stuck chewing gum in my hair. And we were 10."
"She and I would get along."
"Excuse me?"
"We'd both team up to piss you off." He shrugged.
"Only difference being, I'd beat her up after being patient for an hour. But I'd beat you up within seconds Tobio."
"Ouch, why the hate?"
"You get special treatment, Milk Boy."
The train arrived then, and we got on.
"Wan a tell me where we're headed yet, (f/n)?"
"Nope. You'll see." Was all you'd tell him, quite excited for the surprise you'd prepared.
"You're so annoying."
"Tell me me something I don't know."
"You're pretty."
"I know that, dumbass. I'm not blind."
"Wow, thought you'd get all flustered." He wasn't entirely wrong, I was doing somersaults on the inside but I couldn't let it show. So I played it off like I always would.
"Well surprise, surprise. I'm well aware of my good looks, Milk Boy."
"I meant pretty compared to the aliens they show in movies. Y'know, the ones with blue and purple skin and antennae? You look better than tho-"
"There's no saving yourself. You complimented me and that's that Tobio~" You laughed.
"I guess I did." He sighed.
The train came to a stop a few times, and you checked your phone to make sure you were getting off at the right spot.
You led him off the train and kept your focus on your phone and the path you were taking. You weren't familiar with this route in the dark since you'd only been her when it was bright outside.
"It should be just around the corner here." You said, smiling proudly into the dark.
"What should be just around the cor- holy crap (f/n)!" You'd brought him to an event that wasn't too popular. But you knew all too well he'd enjoy it. You purposely chose a place where there would be fewer people since crowds weren't your scene.
What was this mini event, you ask?
A milk tasting event of course.
A new milkshake shop was about to open up in a month and they were advertising for it with free flavours of all their milkshakes.
There were vouchers that could be won by playing games and whatnot. And you were all about that free food.
"Like it?"
"Love it." His voice was barely audible.
You laughed. "You're definitely a Milk Boy." He was barely paying attention to your words and instead trying to figure out what to try first.
"Why's this event so late at night?" He asked you.
"They know not many people will be allowed out at night and they can't give away THAT much free food, so they're counting on their few customers, including us, to spread the news about the milk shake place."
He nodded and asked for a strawberry milkshake. Typical.
You asked for an Oreo cookies and cream milkshake.
The two of you walked around the place trying different samples and playing games to win free vouchers.
"Woah! Look! There's a gigantic cow plushie if you win that shooting game!" Kageyama got a sort of determined look in his eyes as he stormed over, asking how much it was to play one round.
He payed first and you'd only seen him look so concentrated when it came to volleyball. You couldn't help but let out a chuckle. "You've got this, Tobio."
And sure enough, you were right. Kageyama's aim wad impeccable and he'd shit down all his targets in seconds, winning the giant plushie.
As soon as he got the cow plush in his hands, the stall owner pulled another out from behind the counter and hung it up. Kageyama gave me the plush and you refused. "No way, it's your birthday!"
"But I wouldn't be here without you, so keep it."
"Nuh uh."
"Fine I'll just win another one." He huffed and asked for another turn. Without even trying, he returned to you with an identical cow plush.
"What's yours called?" You asked him.
"You named yours already? Nothing less from (f/n), the alien child."
"Of course I did! This one is called Milk Boy Jr." You stated proudly to which he doubled over laughing at.
"Well then, mine's called Choco Milk."
"Why?" You asked.
"You like chocolate milk, right?" He pointed out and you barley managed to nod, touched by his thoughtfulness.
And that's when it hit you, you were forgetting the most important part of the evening. You checked the time on your phone.
23:54
"I forgot about the best part of the event." You gasped and grabbed his hand, sprinting to the top of the hill, grabbing two paper cups on the way and yelling a 'thanks' over your shoulder. The two of you looed like lunatics, legging it up a hill with two cow plushies in hand but you didn't care, you felt ridiculously happy, and luckily you made it in the nick of time.
23:59
It was just the two of you. "My friend's Mon works here and she told me about the chocolate milk fountain." You grinned. "It's off limits to the public but I've special permission."
00:00
The fountain in front of you came to life and you beamed, holding out your cup and filling it up with chocolate milk before taking a sip.
Kageyama did the same and the two of you sat down on the grass. It was extremely cold but the two of you had wrapped up pretty well. You gazed up at the night sky to see the stars gazing right back at you.
You could tell him now. Everything is perfect. You could just tell him how you feel.
You opened your mouth but you couldn't do it. You weren't ready to say anything just yet, you needed a little more time. Instead, you decided on something simple.
"Happy Birthday, Tobio." You whispered softly.
He didn't say anything, but instead, took your hand in his and gave it a reassuring squeeze and you relaxed immediately, knowing he'd had fun.
"Thank you, (f/n)." He whispered after a while, and the two of you stayed like that, looking up at the twinkling stars, holding hands, with just the two of you there.
You'd wished this moment would never end, but you knew that even when it did, it would be carved in your memories forever.
