He backed away, away from the monster advancing towards him.

Its eyes- a violent and wrong shade of purple- seemed to be boring holes into his soul.

Black blood oozed from the gash he had created along its right cheek, trickling down its jaw and leaving charcoal splats and flecks on the tiled floor.

Whatever this thing was... it wasn't natural. Those eyes lacked emotion, the movements lacked control, the blood lacked remorse.

All of a sudden, it lurched forward, and he felt sharp and death-stained talons close around his neck- pain enveloped his throat- warmth ran down from the claws piercing his skin- he couldn't breathe-

...darkness.
