~Lemming~
Name: Lemming
Age: "Erm, uh... now, let's see, uh... One hundred... one hundred and two... one hundred and three... one hundred and four... one hundred and four... one hundred and seven... ehhhhh... one hundred and twenty-five..."
Gender: Male
Tribe: Icewing
Crush: The match to his soul and owner of his heart, his wife, died decades ago. Lemming believes that when a dragon- good or bad- dies, their spirit lifts to the moons and then becomes a star. When you look at the night sky, and you can't take your eyes off this one star, it is a passed dragon you once loved showing you they have made it to the afterlife. There is a star Lemming can always see from his bedroom window, no matter what, which he knows is his wife watching over him and waiting patiently for him to meet her once his time has come.
Personality and backstory: Ah, yes, the Ancient Icewing. He's so old he isn't even in a circle, he just vibes in this little section of the Ice Palace (he's not very mobile), and he seems a little bit bonkers to most but that's because his generation had an influx of not-so-snotty Icewing dragonets and he was one of them. For that reason, the other Icewings prefer to keep him confined to his chambers. He likes it when young dragonets come to visit him, and once escaped off on a mini-quest with four young dragons (two Icewings called Adelie and Cryo, a Nightwing-Icewing called Eclipse, and a Poisonwing called Clover) trying to rescue their kidnapped Icewing Animus friend (they needed his wisdom). The rest of the tribe highly underestimated Lemming's knowledge of the Ice Palace's layout, so he managed to make up for his loss of speed and movement in their break out with shortcuts and secret tunnels.Β
Nobody noticed he was missing until he returned, Adelie, Cryo, Yakutsk (the Animus), Eclipse, and Eclipse's father Rex- a runaway of the tribe- in tow. Later that same day, he discovered that his granddaughter and grandson had both had dragonets years ago without ever bothering to visit and tell him, and those very great-grandchildren were in fact the dragonet cousins he had been off adventuring with, Cryo and Adelie.
He rarely calls those he meets by their actual names, giving them their own unique nicknames and titles instead. To most, these nicknames- usually composed of an adjective before a noun, or a royal title before a plural noun- make no sense whatsoever, but in reality, they all have deeper links to their recipient. Sometimes, if a dragon works out the meaning behind their nickname, it can actually spook them.
Lemming is kindred, rickety, wise, selfless, and looks at the world through the eyes of someone who wishes they could be young and live again. He is wistful. He longs for the days when he was youthful, gliding through the skies with his true love, dashing through the snow, and chasing penguins with his siblings. There is a cold, aching sadness deep inside him, buried under the layers of warmth and behind his mischievous eyes, which is from his awareness of the fact that anyone at all in the entire tribe could visit him practically whenever they wanted... and yet he has been entirely isolated, abandoned, and forgotten by even his own family. Or at least, he had been, until he helped rescue Yakutsk. In fact, he was present to watch Queen Glacier's mother grow, marry her husband, have Glacier and her siblings, Glacier get older and take the throne, Snowfall and the other daughters hatch, and then witness both Glacier's funeral and Snowfall's crowning. This fact came as quite a surprise to Queen Snowfall. She was uncharacteristically humbled by it.
At the age of six, Lemming had a fleeting romance with a female Skywing, but that lasted for simply the two weeks they knew each other before he retreated to the Ice Kingdom. Barely a few months later, he was introduced to one of his sister's friends, whom he fell head-over-talons with, eventually married, and would never leave the side of until her very last breath.
Extras: The pattern on his wing was painted on permanently by a Sandwing he met a long, long time ago in his teenage years. The tail band (over a century old, now) was a birthday present from his oldest sister, and the scarf was knitted by his wife after they had just had their seventh egg. He never takes it off, saying "Though it is tattered and thin, it was made with love, and that is the most precious thing in the world- more valuable than any treasure, more powerful than any magic, more beautiful and rare than even a Middlemist Red... so tell me, young one, why, by all of the moons, should I want to part from it?"Β
