That Was Winter (Poem)

(My English teacher made us write a 'nostalgic' poem about our favorite season, which had to include smell and four stanzas. So here's mine.)

That Was Winter

By Mewtwocool

Have you ever smelled Winter?

Sure you have

Remember that time

When you raced down the soccer pitch

Or shivered on the game's sidelines

And you were tired

And you munched on oranges like sweet candy?

Remember how the field smelled like frozen grass,

Sprinkled with our team's triumph?

That was Winter.

Remember that time

When you drank tea

By the crackling fire

And every sip spilled warmth inside your stomach

And the flames in the fireplace did the same

But on the outside?

So cozy.

Remember how the room smelled like smoke

Steam rising from your mug?

That was Winter.

Remember that time

When you wanted to be warm

And you put on a jacket

And wrapped a scarf around your neck

Adding a beanie

Throwing on some thermal socks

But nothing worked?

Remember how your too-small mittens smelled

All dusty from deep in the cupboard?

That was Winter.

If you try very hard

Can you remember that time

When you stared out the foggy window

And closed your eyes tight

And wished pretty carefully

That it would snow

Or the sun would shine

But nothing ever happened?

Do you remember smelling the

Damp air of your lonely room?

That was Winter.
