βππππππ ππππππππ was extraordinary.
βAs a small child that had grown up in poverty with her mother, waiting for the day that her father would finally be able to bring them to America, she had but one dream; to be a scientist.
βDNA intrigued her unlike anything else, and for a small girl with a brain such as hers, she knew everything about it. At the mere age of six, little Emilia had watched the broken television with wide eyes that held the brightest of sparkles.
βA man had animatedly discussed DNA and the things that could have disastrous, or magnificent effects on the little molecules that made up the human body.
βHer mind had been made there and then; she would be a scientist, she would join her father and work until her bones and brain ached, until information poured out of her ears if she had to.
βShe wanted to help people; if that meant experiments to toughen the body, she'd do it, if it meant years of hard work and study? She'd do it.
βAnd she did.
βThe Clemente family had reunited a few years after Emilia had chosen the path that she'd walk; and the moment her feet touched American soil, she began her journey.
βThe young girl made a name for herself; she flew through school with utter ease and obtained grades that shone a light on her brain and the things she could do.
βShe was awarded a scholarship and once again, her eager eyes, her itching hands and her brilliant mind carried her farther than she could have dreamed.
βHer parents were her biggest cheerleaders, her biggest fans; she could remember when she'd graduated and had shaking hands wrapped around her very first PHD certificate... her parents had stood and clapped with such ferocity she couldn't help but laugh and smile.
βSo for those who knew Emilia, they'd speak highly of her abilities and knowledge, but they would always find room to say what a kind woman she was; she only ever wanted to help and learn.
βDr Bruce Banner had heard whispers of her name, and without much of a thought, he sought her out to accompany him on the commissioned work laid out by Thaddeus Ross; they had no idea what it was they were creating.
βEvery day was like the last; research, test and research again. The two scientists, the two Doctors, knew nothing but equations and Chinese food for months until the day came that the serum was ready.Β
βThe two had replaced the original formula's Vita Radiation with Gamma Radiation, and with disgruntled looks, they flipped a coin on who would be the first test subject; it was Bruce.
βThe man who looked as meek as a mouse underwent a transformation unlike any other; his form changed from the kind doctor to the giant, green beast aptly named 'The Hulk'.
βThe explosion that followed as the hulk swung mighty fists around the lab had trigged a set of events that nobody could have predicted.
βThe building and the lab were burnt to ashes, and yet Emilia managed to come out alive, and without a single scrape or burn.
βSomething had changed when she was inside; something had protected her and allowed her to keep her life.
βBut Emilia, the woman of science and facts, simply believed she was lucky and continued to work alongside Bruce and help the man she considered a friend; he wanted to control the raging beasts that was inside of him, and Emilia wouldn't stop until he could.
βThings continued to happen; objects falling to the ground beside her, things moving without her even noticing... she couldn't even count how many times the life had been scared out of her when glass beakers somehow fell from their shelves and shattered on the tiled floor of the new lab.
βShe thought nothing of it and did her best to carry on with her blossoming career; she wrote books, she discovered things that nobody had before, and she worked and worked until she could gift her parents with the home they deserved.
βThings were good, if not a little strange.
βNothing could have warned Emilia of what was to follow, of what was to haunt her every move. She could never prepare for the blood would soon be spilled, she could never prepare for the fear that would riddle her skin and bones.
βEmilia Clemente would find herself completely alone, seeking help at a place she'd only heard of through mere whispers; the Kamar-Taj. A place for the broken and bent to try and make themselves whole again, to find a meaning to their lives.
βThe journey of ridding one's self of fear was not an easy one; it was long, tough and beyond tiring. The urge to give up and give in taunted her every day and night until her body felt hollow and her cheeks were smeared with tears.
βIf you were to have told Emilia that the egotistical, arrogant Dr Stephen Strange would be the very person to help her along her journey to acceptance, she'd have scoffed.
βHad you have told her that she would be the solace to the man with shaking hands, that she'd be the one to share the heavy burden of keeping the universe safe; she'd most likely have run, she'd have run far away never to look back.
βNobody could run from fate.
βNot even the Sorcerer Supreme, nor the woman who held unlimited power in her palms.
