"Guys, what are these ruins?" Your friend, Amity, questions, approaching a broken gate.

She held her girlfriend's hand tighter as she pushed it open.

"Ohh, did we come across the proof of the grimwalker experiment?" Gus asks, slightly excited. "Let's hope we don't come across Hunter!"

"Gus, you know that isn't real," Willow scolded before turning her attention to the ruins. "We're quite lost, we should camp out here for tonight."

Everyone agreed, but you felt suddenly uneasy. Something was watching you. Glancing around, you saw nothing out of the ordinary.

Maybe your brain was playing tricks on you.

"Y/n? Hey, y/n, are you listening?" Willow asked.

"No actually, what's up?" You replied.

"I said that you weren't paying attention, so you get to go find firewood." She said.

Noting your slightly worried look, Willow called Vee over.

"Vee, go with Y/n, please. It's better if we travel in pairs."

The girl nodded, and you two started walking.

You had wondered off, away from Vee, promising not to go too far, when something rustled in the tree branch above you.

Startled, you began to run, but black and green claws wrapped around your neck, threatening to dig deeper.

You froze in place, and the owner of these claws loosened their grip on your neck. You let out a gasp as the claws swiftly spun around.

In that second, you knew exactly what you were looking at.

The Hunter, product of the grimwalker experiments.

His bright blue eyes stared intently into yours, seemingly satisfied with his catch.

One of his claws released itself from your neck and and traced your jawline, before suddenly covering your mouth and pushing you towards the ground, almost effortless.

"Y/n?" Vee sounded close by. She was searching for you.

You struggled against his grip, trying to at least make as much noise as possible, but the Hunter was seemingly immovable.

When Vee's calls for you sounded further away, that was the first time you heard Hunter speak.
And the last time you wished to hear it.

"How could I catch a prey so unwilling to stay? What I usually catch ends up annoying me until I silence them." He chuckled. "What I caught at my old home just tonight I couldn't deal with for more than a few seconds."

Holy titan.
Your friends had fallen victim to this.

You had to escape. You needed to escape.

You started kicking him relentlessly, which slightly caught him off guard. His moments hesitation gave you enough time to push him away from you and run through the undergrowth to get out of here.

He decided to give you a heads-start. It wasn't very often that he'd catch one that ran.

But it was clear to him, you'd never been this deep into the forest before.

Your minute head-start was over, and based on all the trampled plants and broken sticks, you'd left an easy trail to follow.

He picked up a sharp, broken stick, and began tracing your trail.

You had found Vee. Vee had found out what happened to your friends while looking for you, and it was silently agreed upon that you needed to get out of the forest.

A certain cardinal and noticed your frantic states, and pecked at your ear, motioning for you to follow him.

Dumbly, you and Vee followed the bird.

The cardinal led you to a tree that provided lots of covering. With it being your only option, you and Vee climbed up the tree. The cardinal sat next to you, in a nest labelled "Flapjack" in messy handwriting.

You patted the bird and Vee smiled sadly.

"When the morning comes, in the legend all the grimwalkers go to sleep. We'll escape then." She planned.

But, to your dismay, a sharp, broken looking stick flew past your head and startled you out of the tree.

The branch you were on was one of the lowest of the tree, but it was still high enough out of reach from the monster below you.

You clung to it, vee trying to help pull you up.

But you were exhausted, and when you remembered the legend, this particular grimwalker could extend his claws far.

And with that, you gave Vee a smile.

"Vee,thanks for being an amazing friend." You let go of her hands, getting caught by Hunter.

On that night, the grimwalker experiments were proven real, with no one willing to know what happened to the final victim of that night, Y/n.
