Damon sighed tempestuously, shutting the front door behind him. He'd had a busy day. Running through the mountains after Elena and Alaric. He strolled into the living-room, he lifted his gaze. His eyes widened slightly as his lip dropped, halting in his step. Staring at the man - who shared a resemble with him - sat in the armchair. Hands inlaced in his lap, his legs crossed.

"Matthew." Damon greeted, blinking at his brother, who wore his usual 'serious-ness' frown.

"Hello brother." Matthew drawled out, eyes propping into Damon's as he watched him slowly approach. Damon furrowed his brows "What are you doing here?"

"Can't I visit my little brothers, when I miss them?" The suited Salvatore vampire remarked. Damon chuckled "No. You don't miss us, Matthew. You keep tabs on us."

"Fine." Matthew got to his feet, shooting the younger Salvatore a demanding look "It's come to my attention that this town had an episode with our ripper of a brother." He narrowed his eyes "Speaking of, where is Stefan?"

"Oh, you know him." Damon smirked at his brother "Grooming his hero hair. Feasting on bunny rabbits."

"Damon." Matthew growled in warning, blocking the ravenette's path to the table cluttered with alcohol and glasses. Damon sighed, smiling sheepishly. He knew better than to push his brother too far. He opened his mouth and retold the past events his had missed out on.

"Christ Damon!" Matthew bellowed.

"I know, I know." Damon nodded "Don't blame me, he's the one that sacrificed himself."

"It's also your fault. Everyone knows werewolf bites are fatal to vampires." The older Salvatore scolded, before narrowing his eyes, looking at his brother questionably "Why were you getting involved with werewolves anyway?"

Damon licked his lips, nervously. Unsure how his brother would react to there being another doppelganger "Well..."

Matthew humed lazily before pulling himself out of bed. After dressing in black jeans along with a long sleeved shirt, he causally made his way down the stairs.

"A hybrid who wants me dead, and his sidekick who's off the rails? I couldn't be further away."

He turned his head after his feet hit the last step. Gaze drifting to the living-room. He knew that voice anywhere. It belonged to the woman who was partly responsible for what he and his brothers were; vampires. He followed the trail towards the living-room. He hadn't seen Katherine seen 1864, which he'd always been greatfully for.

"Which means you know exactly where they are." Damon remarked, a smirk on his lips. Hardly noticing his brother. Who entered the room without a sound. Gaze fixed on him, ears taking in every word.

"All I know is that Klaus pitched a fit once his hybrids didn't work. Now he's looking for some answers."

"How do you know that?" Damon narrowed his eyes, turning on his heel. Jumping in his skin at the sight of his older brother hovering around. He still couldn't quite believe that he was here. Damon had almost convinced himself it was just a dream when awoken that every morning.

"Spend 500 years running, and there will be a few people looking out for you." The two Salvatores shared a look, the same question running though their minds.

"Is that what you're doing?" Damon questioned bitterly, making his brother narrow his eyes at him "Looking out for my brother."

"Maybe, maybe not. I'm conflicted."

Damon narrowed his eyes flatly, fed up with the doppelganger's teasing "Where are they?" Matthew arched his head intrigued.

"Chicago." The Salvatores met each other's gaze instantly. Damon's eyes sparkled at an idea. Perhaps Stefan might listen to their big brother, afterall Matthew was known to be very persuasive. Plus, Stefan had always looked up to the older Salvatore. Damon too. But maybe this was the way to bring him to reason. The only problem was Klaus.

Damon hung up on Katherine. Pocketing his phone "Fancy a road trip, brother?"

"I'm driving." Matthew stated.

"Better pack a bag."

Matthew sat in his car, waiting patiently for his brother to return with Stefan's girlfriend. Of course, little did he know Damon had failed to mention that their brother's girlfriend was Katherine's doppelganger.

Damon stepped out of the Gilbert house after Elena, closing the door. Elena stared at the shiny, luxurious black car curiously. Had he got a new vehicle? She furrowed her eyebrows, gripping at her duffle bag. Damon smirked at the teenager before leading her to the car. She spotted a dark haired man watching them though the passenger window. Her breath hitched.

"Who's that?"

Damon sighed ignoring her question, gesturing for her to get in. Before getting in himself, in the front. Once the duo shut the door, Damon shifted gaze to the unknown man as he turned the wheel. The car glided smoothly on to the road.

Elena swallowed, glancing between the men before her. Her eyes flickered to Damon "Damon-"

"Elena meet Matthew." Damon introduced quickly, hardly looking at the doppelganger "Matthew meet our baby brother's girlfriend, Elena?"

"Brother?" Her eyes broadened. That explained the resemblance.

"Another doppelganger." Matthew gave Damon a stern scrowl. He half shrugged, avoiding his brother's eyes Matthew growled, eyes moving to the road. Elena gazed at him through the review mirror curiously. Stefan hadn't mentioned anything about there being another Salvatore brother.

Matthew pulled up outside a run down apartment. He was greatful that the trip on the road had come to an end. Damon and Elena bickering like children had put a strain on his nerves. He closed the car door, eyes scanning the area looking for anything that proposed a threat. Once finding none - so far - his eyes fell on the apartment.

"What is this place?" Elena asked, brows furrowed deeply. Confusion swirled in her doe orbs. She glanced to and from the building and the younger Salvatore.

"This is Stefan's old apartment building. He lived here in the twenties." Damon explained before taking the lead.

Matthew followed the duo into the building. The floor boards creaked under their foot steps. Cob webs bridged corner to corner. Insects crawled around, running out of sight. Narrowly avoiding being step on. The wall paper was hanging off the walls, slowly peeling off the wall. It was eerie. The oldest Salvatore liked eerie. But it suited him when it was involved with luxury.

"Stefan could live anywhere in Chicago and he chose this?" Elena looked over the dust, puzzled at why even in a cleaner version of the apartment he'd pick this.

"There used to be an all-girls high school around the corner, but it shut down for attendance issues." Damon furrowed his brows, playing off puzzlement before chiming sarcastically "Weird."

Elena glared at the back of Damon's head "It you're trying to scare me into giving up and going back, it's not going to work."

Damon hushed her, before turning the door knob and pulled it out. He smirked pushing the door open before stepping aside letting Elena enter. Matthew joined him at the door as Elena ran her eyes over the room "Here we are." Damon chimed entering "Stefan's second personality home."

Slience took hold of the group. The atmosphere stilled as the trio examined the room. Elena raised her eyebrows "He obviously hasn't been here."

Damon turned, flashing the doppelganger a wicked grin "Tour isn't over yet."

Matthew observed as his brother lead Elena to the book case stood against the wall. Damon opened up a secret apartment which stored bottles of alcohol. But he knew it stored more than alcohol. Out of all of them, Stefan suffered the worst. With uncontrollable blood lust and guilt.

"Still handling it?" Damon challenged the girl being his brother to the present "Ok. Stay here and think of a plan." Damon moved towards the doorway, which his brother occupied.

Elena frowned "Where are you going?"

"His old stomping ground. We'll come back once we find him." Damon smirked at the doppelganger "Steffy needs a good scolding from our big brother."

Matthew rolled his eyes at his brother's childish ways. Turning on his heel and leaving.

After fooling around. Looking for their brother only to find out Elena had nearly been discovered. The trio went to Gloria's bar. Damon went to distract Klaus, whilst Stefan talked to Elena. Attempting to get the message across that he didn't want rescuing.

"Now, we both you need it."

Stefan's face fell. He hadn't heard that voice since he turned. He shifted on his feet, turning to face the brother he'd seen for a hundred or odd years. Eyes wide, mouth drooping "Matthew."

The Salvatore humed "Why sell yourself out to the blood, Stefan?"

"Damon didn't tell you?" He furrowed his brows.

"To save your girlfriend yes." Matthew nodded "But from who."

"Klaus."

Matthew's face formed a glare. His brothers were messing with an Original. He growled, vamp-speeding into the bar.

________________

"Not in my bar." Gloria shook her head. The dirty blonde sighed from above the ravenette "Really?"

The witch had little chance to reply because of a blur running throughout her bar. Klaus was thrown off Damon. The hybrid groaned as his back hit the counter, opening his eyes to see that he wasn't being attacked. He frowned curiously.

Matthew grabbed his brother by the fabric of his shirt before throwing him on to one of the tables at vampiric speed. He jumped, hovering over his brother. Growling and glaring "You're messing with an Original! Damon! Do you want your own death."

"You know about them?" Damon frowned up at his brother. He thought he knew as little about the supernatural world as he did before the summer.

"Yes, unlike the pair of you. I'm not stupid." Matthew growled deeply, before Damon pushed his brother off him. He glared at his older sibling "Look you're pissed. I get it-"

"No you don't." Matthew shook his head, glowering "To survive in this world you don't piss off vampires who are older than you. Have you learned nothing!"

"Hey! He's-" Damon thrusted a finger in Klaus' direction, who was watching the ordeal curiously "- the reason Elena's dead and our brother's stuck with him."

"If you hadn't been more careful, you wouldn't have been bitten and then Stefan wouldn't be here." Matthew corrected, Damon went to object but he cut him off "Go to the car." He didn't move "Now." Matthew drawled, Damon scrowled like a child caught stealing a cookie "I'll deal with you later."

He turned his head meeting Klaus' gaze as Damon stomped out. He stepped forward "You have something of mine, I like it back."

Klaus smirked "And who would you be, mate?"

"Matthew Salvatore."

Klaus' orbs brightened, a hum fell from his lips "The ripper of New Orleans. I assumed you were a myth. You can't have your brother back."

Matthew growled lightly taking a step forward.

"Everything all right here?" Stefan remarked, eyeing the original and his brother cautiously.

"Yes," Klaus smirked, keeping his eyes on Matthew "we were just getting acquainted. Weren't we, Matthew?"

Matthew growled before turning, heading towards the door. He'd drag Stefan back to Mystic Falls later, but first Damon needed reminding how to treat his elders.

The hybrid chuckled "Not much of a talker, is he?"
