chapter 7
It was four in the morning, and I still couldn't sleep. Training as hard as I did yesterday left my body sore in places that I didn't even know could get sore. I spent a solid two hours stretching my back and arms last night and I heard way too many cracks for me to feel remotely comfortable.
Kurogiri didn't let me rest for a second; I had to punch the same target with both arms a thousand times, do two hundred sit-ups and push-ups, and a hundred kicks. Needless to say, everyone had gotten to leave hours before I even had the chance to think of it.
Though I might've developed some breathing problems after, it was nice-- training like that. I'm too sore to really feel it, but I can tell I've gotten stronger. I just need to keep training and training and training until one day, I'll be as good as everyone else, even without a quirk.
I don't need to have faith in anyone else like I used to, I refuse to rely on someone else. I just need to put faith in myself.
All I need is myself.
Quiet scuttling and footsteps sounded from the bar, making me sit up at record speed. Have we been discovered?? Are heroes about to take us out right now?? No, it'd be too soon. How did it happen so quickly?? Did they follow us back here? I can't let this happen, I can't let my aspirations die out so easily like this... !
I silently rush to my door, my head pounding and heart pumping, and creak it open with an alarming gentleness. Peering through the small crack anxiously, I'm relieved to see that it's only Spinner and Mr. Compress, along with all the other members sitting on bar stools and standing around. I let out an audible sigh of ease.
But why are they here so early in the morning?
It seemed Spinner was thinking the same thing. "Why'd you call us out here so early, Shigaraki? What could you possibly want to talk about at four in the morning that we can't discuss when the sun's up?" He asked, clearly annoyed.
"Yeahhh," Toga yawned. "I only came cuz it sounded important, but I'm really tired..."
"Yes, it's rather early for meetings, don't you think?" Mr. Compress added, sleepily rubbing his eyes.
"I know our next mission, something that won't fail, and it targets All Might specifically," Shigaraki announced.
Everyone sat up, fully awake, and so did I.
"But if you'd rather hear about it when the sun's up..."
"Wait!" Twice said. He nervously laughed, "We were just kidding before, right guys?-- No we weren't!"
"What mission? How do you intend for us to even get close enough to him without getting killed?" Dabi asked from the corner of the bar.
"I've received intel that All Might will become a teacher at U.A."
My heartbeat quickened and I nearly stopped breathing.
"U.A?" Magne murmured. "Isn't that that school you checked out a few weeks ago, Kurogiri?"
"Indeed it is. It's a very carefully protected school with alarming security systems. It would not be an easy feat to infiltrate it."
"But that'll mean I can get some new blood, and even find more people to love! That sounds so fun!" Toga said.
"Ooooh, I wanna have fun!" Twice sat up, clapping his hands together excitedly.
"Yeah, if the two of you wanna get killed," Spinner cut in.
That shut the both of them up. Toga and Twice sat back in their seats, disappointed. "Well, you didn't have to put it so bluntly," Twice complained.
"All that being said, All Might's not supposed to start working there until the next school year," said Shigaraki.
Dabi leaned against the wall, crossing his arms impassively. "And when the hell's that?"
"Nine months, I believe," Kurogiri answered.
Magne looked at Shigaraki. "Where'd you get all this information anyway?"
"Giran. He's an associate of ours. Said a client told him about it."
Suddenly, Shigaraki's demeanor changed in a matter of seconds. From what I've seen so far, Shigaraki was a relatively quiet person who kept to himself, spending his days in his room.
Sometimes, late at night, I hear him talking as if he's speaking with someone. I'm not sure if he was or if he just had a screw loose in the head.
The only true emotion I've seen from Shigaraki for the month I've been a member of the League of Villains was when I first came to the hideout. Back then, he'd heavily protested against my joining, stomping his feet and going into the backroom shortly afterward.
With the way he'd acted I was a bit surprised to find he was the leader of the organization, but I thought he'd have some good qualities if he's in charge.
But now, as a carnivorous, twisted smile carved its way onto his pale, crumbling face, I was only scared to be in the same room as him. Even with that white hand covering his face, I couldn't see his countenance clearer. His red eyes glowed with a sort of excitement, a stomach-twisting sickness swirling in the pit of them.
He scratched at his neck and face, chuckling to himself with such cold-heartedness. It chilled me to my bones.
"U.A... That's where we'll make our attacks then, it's perfect; taking down All Might when he's unsuspecting and vulnerable... stifling the progress of potential pro-heroes, it'd be taking out two birds with one stone... yes... perfect..."
Shigaraki looked at his followers evilly. "We'll make a plan. We won't fail, not this time, not when we're closer than we've ever been."
